Nothing was there to dislike from my part.

The location was excellent. The staff was good. Breakfast was very good.

The rooms need renovation very badly. Carpet is worn out, curtains were off the hooks, bathtub was small and uncomfortable for a bath, dustbin in the bathroom was broken. Except one complimentary bottle of water one has to pay for even water.

We asked for a plate for some fruit we’d bought, and were informed it would cost 8 euros to have a plate to use which has never happened before, surprising from a 5 star hotel too.

the lower car park a bit tight in places, not enough spaces. Consumables Tea and Coffee etc. not replaced on a daily Basis

Fabulous views, excellent rooms, great breakfast, incredible pools, lots of services and most of all without my knowledge gave me a little birthday gift as I stayed over my birthday - a complete and wonderful surprise! Absolutely loved our stay - and loved Funchal! Highly recommend!

Towels could be softer but this is very minor!

apparently a 5* hotel is allowed to not have a working heating system; although there was a thermostat in our room going from 15 to 30 degrees, it would only blow cold; when i called the reception about it, I was told that indeed the system only cools the rooms and that they can offer extra blankets if we are cold

The whole great property, sea access, very nice and helpful staff. Great location and fantastic views from the huge terrasses. We will be back for sure.

We think that the showers and the small toilet " house" that is meant for the pool guests, are not snny godd and not represantaive for this nice hotel. If some improvements and maintainance of parts of the hotel were done, like carpets in the breskfast room and in the bedroom corridors, and the elevator capacity and look, this hotel could have six stars. New front look of the entrance snd front of the building eould mske it much more attractive from the street for visitors. Repaerstion of the marble tiles.

Spa. It doesn't correspond to the "5-stars" of the hotel. Sauna is too cold, water at the jacuzzi is cold as well. During breakfast it's quite hard sometimes to catch a waiter and order a coffee/tea.

The location and views from the hotel are excellent and the breakfast selection is good. That’s where the good points end.

STAY AWAY from this hotel! It really affected our holiday and we will NEVER EVER stay at any Pestana hotels again. This specific hotel is a 3 star at best, I cannot understand how they have 5 star rating. The rooms are very outdated and horribly decorated. We arrived and had been upgraded to a room with unusable wardrobe doors which would not open. The safe was also completely broken with the lock mechanism hanging out of the safe. Maintenance came to fix the issues quite quickly but I’m baffled as to how this wasn’t picked up before. Whilst the breakfast selection is good, they served mouldy bread one day and when we showed the the manager we were offered cocktails as an apology which is fine but then it put us off breakfast for the entire stay as we were worried other foods were off or people may have already eaten the bread before we had breakfast. Prior to checking-out we asked the reception desk to book a taxi for us to go to the airport. They told us that there was a set price of €35 so we kept just enough euros to pay for the taxi as we didn’t want to bring euros back to the UK. Arrived at the airport and the taxi driver charged us €45 and told us it’s not his problem the hotel gave us the wrong price. I had to go inside the airport to withdraw €10 more and be charged a €5 withdrawal fee for it which really annoyed us as this was not what the hotel had informed us. We even confirmed the taxi booking and price with the reception multiple times before checking out. Also worth mentioning that we are a young couple in our 30s but this hotel should be avoided if you’re looking for a younger vibe. The guests are mostly seniors 65+ and the limited entertainment in the hotel is made to suit. It saddens me to leave such a bad review but I’m this case it is justified.
