Good location, lovely restraunt, huge room size, staff very helpful and friendly. Easy access to the local town and train station.

Attention to detail on room cleaning could have been better, especially round the windows. Was told there would be a celebration platter in the room on arrival but had to remind them as it wasn't. Was then provided the following day.

We had a lovely stay at Macdonald Houstoun House and would definitely return. We stayed in Room 15 in the Tower, a lovely four-poster room with plenty of character. The room was comfortable and made the stay feel a little more special. We also used the bar and really enjoyed it, although we didn’t eat in the restaurant on this occasion. The location worked brilliantly for us. It was a great base for visiting Edinburgh, but we also spent time exploring the other side of the Forth, so it’s very well placed if you want to see more than just the city. If I had to mention two small criticisms, the four-poster bed is actually only a standard double, which feels a little small for such a lovely room, and there could be more shelving or storage space for clothes. Those are minor points, though. Overall, we had a really enjoyable and memorable stay. Lovely hotel, lots of character, great location and somewhere we would definitely stay again.

Nice charming location, friendly reception and clean room

Bedrooms were located outwith main building Service at breakfast was slow and porridge offered instead of cooked breakfast rather than as well as which wasn’t so good. A full buffet breakfast would be better and would speed things up.
