Wonderful Ryokan. Service and food was exceptional. The private onsen was so relaxing

Wished there were gardens to walk around the property

Wonderful experience, very friendly and helpful staff. The private onsen allowed my husband and myself to truly relax!

The room wasn’t entirely clean. On the stand next to my bed I found 2 used contact lenses and a chewed dried up gum the prior guest probably left.

The room was lovely and spacious, it was traditional and the main lounge area was really nice with great views throughout. The private onset was fantastic, very hot but could easily be cold down. The private dinning was great and the staff were so helpful and polite particularly during dinner service where we got to expirience traditonal Japanese dining. Free welcome drinks until 5pm was a nice touch.

The location is tricky as it is a bit out of the way with walks required to local bus stops and no train station close by. I think the hotel could have been more helpful with regards to utilising there shuttle service which never started until 10am for some reason. For dinner and breakfast there is no optionality which was fine for dinner and we wanted to experience the local cuisine but for breakfast I think it would have been nice to have the choice of other types of food as it can be very different to western style.

On the positive side, the bed was very comfortable, and we really enjoyed the private bath with beautiful views of the mountains.

Honestly, I expected more from the property and from the ryokan experience overall. The bad weather didn’t help, but unfortunately, the room didn’t smell very pleasant due to a strong smell of humidity. The staff were very kind and welcoming, although communication in English was quite difficult. I feel that better communication could have significantly improved the overall experience, particularly when it came to understanding the food and the ryokan experience itself.
