Shanghai Mansion Bangkok

Very interesting interior design throughout hotel and rooms. I don't do "boring normal" hotels so this ticked the "unique" box. Very good breakfast. For not staying on the river, this location was easy to walk to shops, restaurants. Live music on ground floor was ... good and bad. Good if you wanted to listen but very bad if you didn't because it was extremely loud and intrusive. I enjoyed the live music though it does create a certain ambiance that I normally would not embrace, but this is where my friends wanted to stay (their second visit to this hotel) so this time, I stayed with them instead of my usual type of accommodations. It was for the most part a very pleasant stay.

First night was not good. Room next door was obnoxiously loud and it felt like they were IN my room. I spoke to hotel next day. Turns out my room was an adjoining room to next door, with door closed between. Hotel moved me to same style room which was quiet the next 2 nights. Hotel was very busy so the better rooms I would have booked were unavaiable. Weird "chicken" in the green curry. Couldn't eat it. There is afternoon tea some days on 3rd floor which would have been lovely except drummer rehearsing on ground floor ruined the tea ambiance. Could not enjoy the soothing string instrument being performed by a lady boy. Hotel has some great things going for it and some bizarre oversights.

Everything, the staff, location and amenities were perfect. The hotel is eclectic and has a really good vibe.

Rooms do not have actual windows. If you love the charm of staying in an 18th-century mansion, this place is perfect. But if modern amenities are important to you, you might want to look elsewhere.
