Farmhouse Inn

The Farmhouse Inn was exactly what it purports to be and my reiew broadly chimes with most others. The location is very pleasant as its rural Essex. Myself and my son were attending the airshow at RAF Duxford so it was handy for that in terms of proximity. Fair to say the hotel is a wee bit out of Thaxted itself which is a lovely little village, The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable and equally clean. As is the bathroom. Yes the decor is a bit tired and yes i agree the walls are thin I always travel with eye mask and ear plugs and am dumbfounded at those who dont. If you re paying less than £100 per night in 2026 i struggle to see how you would expect more. The bar is decent with a choice of taps, the food for dinner is definitely pub grub and no more but the portion size is good and the food is well cooked ,Service ( from Anna who covered a lot of ground serving dinner. covering reception , breakfast and the bar ) was great. Breakfast was very good too and good value. Thanks Anna. Would i stay again , at this price point, yes. Would spending a few grand on some painting be a good idea .. just now , yes otherwise tired becomes tatty and people are less forgiving of that . But overall, a really positive stay.

Peaceful location. Really helpful and friendly staff. Very clean bedroom, comfortable bed. Dinner was good quality, standard pub menu.

The plumbing and furnishings were a little dated but didn’t detract from our enjoyment.
