a bit expensive for 3-star hotel noisy location (railway and main road) very close to the hotel

This gem was a quiet relaxing get away that exceeded my expectations. we had our own cabana to stay in, and the service was spectacular, anything we needed they took care of. All we had to do was relax and enjoy the beach. the location is right on a magical natural pool that’s shared by several hotels and restaurants. Its located in Unawatuna, and the town itself is a charming little beach town where you can relax and party all night. The owners are American and fantastic people. they sent us off with a Sri lanakan dessert congratulating me on recent birthday. spectacular location, and spectacular service. I will return to this resort in the future.

I wish they had more Sri lanakan and vegetarian options, but over all they were spectacular.

We were really happy for our stay in one of the beach-cabanas. Great breakfast and service and close to the beautiful beach with sunchairs for the guests. Also very positive that there is a restuarant at the hotel.

Very good location. The staff was so helpful and provided us with everything we asked for. The room (B3) was spacious and comfortable. The view from the room and the terrace was fantastic. The food was very good. We tried most of the dishes on the menu and we enjoyed them all. The beach was very nice. Every day we had a chance to swim with turtles.

The rail line that is adjacent to the hotel. Although it is not so disturbing (the kids didn't even notice it during the night), we could hear every train that was passing.

Rockside Cabanas is a lovely family hotel. It is small enough to feel cosy and the staff knows you. The food is lovely and the place itself has a very relaxed and chill atmosphere. It is right at the beach, so from the hotel garden you can get onto the beach. Because of a natural rock formation, the sea is a safe place and more like a pool. The bonus is, that there are some turtles living in that little pool. Huge turtles of about 70 years old who you can actually feed! The room is okay and basic. She shower is really nice. We stayed in the top room with a great view of the ocean and a bathtub to chill out in on the balcony. The staff is super nice and the food is delicious. The spaghetti a la carbonara turned out the be the children's favourite :-). It's best to book with breakfast included. You can either get a continental or a local breakfast. Lot's of nice fresh fruit, a coconut every morning, eggs any way you like, pancakes or waffles. Prices in general are not high in Sri Lanka, so extra's won't cost you a fortune. From the hotel you can book yourself some nice trips, like Whale watching in Mirissa. It's about $ 60 pp ($ 30 children). A 4000 Lkr (about € 10) one way in the tuktuk to Mirissa. We went diving with Pearl divers. Book online or get in touch with them for a 10% discount. We didn't get to see the turtle hatchery nearby (Sea Turtle Hatchery - Habaraduwa), but it's really nearby. Have pizza at Wijaya beach...wood oven delicious pizza...just a 5 minute walk on the beach from the Rockside Cabanas. We also did a safari in Yala Nationalpark. We booked a taxi van for 2 days (as we were with 6 people) for $ 180 with Lakan tours (+94 77 395 1779). They were also the ones arranging a airport transfer for $ 60. We booked our safari for the afternoon and for the next morning and stayed overnight in Kataragama.

The hotel transport arranged by the hotel was twice more expensive then what we paid for afterward. Our transfer back to the airport was $ 60, where as the transport from the airport cost us $ 125.

I had a short but a good time at this place. Good and fun conversation at the bar.

The host and his wife were really warm and nice people who made our stay really comfortable. The conversation with them are open, honest and fund. The location is directly and a very beautiful beach. It is a calm place a bit outside of the hustle but just close enough to be at Unawatuna or Galle in a very short time

Excellent location for Galle Captive beach, especially for kids/easy swimming - supposedly with turtles as well at the right time (we never saw) Responsive and helpful employees Decent breakfast and overall F&B options, even for vegetarians, with some great dishes and drinks

Wifi was quite patchy Price was a little steep (we did book a great cabana, and last minute) No TV in room (though this was advertised already, and arguably not a big negative anyways) Apart from this, we had to wait outside the property at 5am because of miscommunication about our arrival time (the team tried to make up for it during rest of our trip)

We had the most incredible stay. The hosts arranged the airport pickup from Colombo and the entire vacation from there on was seamless. I traveled with my parents and sister and we all loved the serene property and the turtle beach out in front, where we actually swam next to two massive turtles. What really made the stay special was the warm and personalized hospitality shown by Lakshman and Anjani, the hosts and their polite and ever smiling staff. They've maintained the property with so much love and that shines through with the service. The food was delicious and I highly recommend their crab curry, veg curry with idiyappam and the arrack passion fruit cocktail for all foodies. It's truly a vibe enjoying the ocean breeze and vista's here and anyone visiting Unawatuna or Galle must come down and stay on the beach front cabanas.

We stayed for second time in the hotel. It is located on the beach in front of some rocks which make the waves crushing and dancing. It is a spectacle which never stops and is just amazing. We were there in Jan and Feb and saw many sea turtles. On the other side of the beach there is a natural swimming place, which is very shallow and safe - very suitable for kids. The beach develops further into more wild one and is very nice for walking and also swimming, still watch our the waves and the current. The hotel is view minutes away (by tuk-tuk) from Unawatuna. We stayed in a cabana and we liked a lot the privacy and the veranda. The hotel is small and very quiet. All in all a place, which we would visit again.

The staff were excellent. The cabana right next to the beach was just great. So relaxing listening to the waves.

Everything was great

This property is great when you travel with kids. There is a grass terrace that they can run and play on and it is safe. The lagoon is on your doorstep which is also children friendly. The staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel welcome at all times. Our cabana looked out on the ocean, with sea turtles swimming under our noses. It is a true gem. The food is outstanding and served with a warm heart.

The hotel is in a wonderful location, with a big garden directly in front of the beach. The food is very good, our family room was, big and clean, with sea view and bathtub on the balcony. What I liked the most, is the stuff. AMAZING people, helpful, kind, always smiling. Thank you all!!!

Special place in sri Lanka. The garden was an amazing place directly to the ocean. Turtle Beach is 5meter away and you can see turtles. All people are friendly and we had a lot of fun.

Perfect place to stay! We stayed there twice during our holidays because we liked it so much. Beautiful bungalows and garden, easy access to the beach and sea, especially for small kids, very attentive staff and super friendly owner - a little piece of paradise. Looking forward to being back soon!

Music at New Year celebration was VERY unnecesarry loud for a small hotel Sri lankan breakfast option was always late when i ordered it even day in advance Had to ask for seperate Wi-fi login every 1GB, which did not work all the time, Not an option for a premium boutique hotel

Glorious, magical place on a turquoise sea full of turtles! Loved staying here - beautiful cabanas, wonderful hosts, incredibly friendly and kind staff, and delicious food. The Sri Lankan breakfast is out of this world, and there’s lots of amazing seafood - the crab curry is spectacular. Would come back in a heartbeat - thanks for a brilliant holiday x

Cozy hotel with wonderful ocean views. One can easily access the beach and observe the turtles, which arrive in the morning to lagoon or feed in corals in the afternoon. The service and food are on high level. We would like to thank all the hotel staff for great assistance ant hospitality. They made our accommodation the most comfortable and pleasant!

One should keep in mind, that if you live on the first floor of the hotel (not the chalets) the noise from the street and railway can reach the room. However in the chalets there is no such a problem.
