Beautiful characterful building in a picturesque setting. Fantastic, friendly, engaging & attentive staff. Wonderful local food in the bar, venison pie, best venison pie I’ve ever eaten.

Doors to the rooms were a little loud, but that’s fire doors and beyond the hotels control, down to inconsiderate people letting them slam. Otherwise it was a great stay!

It was nice, staff friendly and helpful, grounds beautiful. Room just not that impressive for price and no fridge etc.

Lower price or better room would have been good.

We returned to the hotel after we enjoyed it so much when we visited last year. Everything about it is impressive from the staff, the food and especially the beautiful grounds. It is well located to visit many places, especially numerous National Trust Properties.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Great location for a stop over while travelling up the M6. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Very nice dinner.

When we attended for breakfast, the staff were busy preparing for a wedding. There was a sign directing us to the restaurant for breakfast. But on the door of the restaurant there was a sign saying to have breakfast in the bar. Yet there were no spare tables set up in the bar for breakfast and no staff to ask. Turned out we did have to go into the restaurant area, but only to help ourselves from the buffet and take it back to the bar. The staff were concentrating more on the wedding prep than on the guests so it took a while to get a coffee served. When it came we asked for milk and the waitress grabbed a jug from a recently vacated table and plonked it down in front of us. The buffet was poorly stocked and the yoghurts were out of date. While we eventually got some sort of breakfast, it was a huge contrast to the dinner the night before where the food was great and the waitress really attentive and helpful. I imagine it's a great venue for weddings, but they need to ensure ordinary guests are not impacted.
