Charlie's Place was such a perfect house for our annual beach trip. We had a group of 15 and there was plenty of room and beds. Wonderful deck and awesome boardwalk out to the beach with a sitting area halfway out as well. Just remember to always walk through the designated area to the beach and not through the dunes please! We missed a turtle nest hatching almost directly in front of the house by one night....ugghh. Anyways like I said Charlie's Place was perfect for us and it was a trip to be remembered by all. Couldn't say a bad thing about it. We hope to be back here next summer! - Bird Squad

Very bright and well maintained house. After the hurricane in 2020, the owners upgraded the house to make it more beach friendly, replacing old carpeting with vinyl floors, although a full season of rentals has left several chips taken out of the flooring in the kitchen area. Previous reviews mentioned stains and mold, which we found no evidence of. The only issue was bugs, both ants and quite a few large water bugs/palmetto bugs/giant roaches (whatever you want to call them). we have rented other houses on the beach MANY times and understand bugs are not uncommon, but this was excessive and needs attention. Overall it is a comfortable house.

There was obvious damage from a recent storm, which should've caused this home to not be rented until repairs were made. Here's the complete list we sent to the property management company: *Water damage/stains all over the ceiling causing a moldy/mildew strong smell in the house. We were given an ionizer that doesn't really help and we had to have another member of our party bring a large air purifier, and still the smell persists. *Nails were up all over the deck and one member of our group sliced their foot open, basically ruining the rest of his stay. We found a hammer and took care of this ourselves. *Ants all over the house. Exterminator came out but couldn't spray because we have children in the house. His bait solution takes 3 days to work per conversation with him, so we still found ants in our children's food and all over the kitchen counter and other food throughout the week. *Large mold issue in the downstairs bathroom and the sink is very slow to drain. *The outlet for the microwave doesn't work so we ran a surge protector from another outlet. The owner of the home offered a $400 refund on a very expensive home, along with being told to sign a form agreeing to not post any negative reviews. This A: wasn't enough of a refund and B: other people should know before spending so much on this home. Would never stay here again or ever work with Better Beach Rentals again. Just getting someone to respond was an incredibly painful process. We had to have multiple people come in the home to attempt and fail at fixes, negating the whole point of renting a private vacation home during a pandemic. Stay away from this place!

Pretty disappointing overall with this rental, for a bunch of reasons: 1. The carpet in the house was absolutely disgusting. Every spot in every room was covered in various colored stains. The cleaning crew may have done a good job vacuuming it, or maybe not- you'd never be able to tell. The carpet probably should have been replaced a decade ago. 2. Lots of bugs. I killed 2-3 cockroaches each day I was there. 3. The paint was peeling off the walls and ceiling in every room. Lots of water stains. I know they had bad storms recently so this may be recent damage. However, they shouldnt be offering the house for rental if they know it needs repairs. 4. Im sure the owner will respond to this review and say "you should have contacted us if you had an issue". However, the rental agency was impossible to contact. We DID try calling at least 6 times and the call went straight to hold every time. A few times we waited as long as 30 minutes and never got through. All calls were during their business hours. 5. They changed the check-in/ check-out times after I booked the rental, blaming "need more cleaning time due to COVID". However, COVID has been around for 6 months now, so theyve had plenty of time to update the listing on VRBO rather than pulling a bait-and-switch after they have my money. Pluses were: the appliances, sinks, toilets, showers were in good clean condition. The place was in a good location on the island. The deck and porch were in good shape.
