Waterfront Waimanalo
Everything we needed for a happy month in Hawaii. First, the view - breathtakingly beautiful. We spent so much time just enjoying it - from our lanai, the beach, the pier - we couldn't get enough. The accommodations were exactly what we needed with a comfy king-sized bed, well equipped kitchen, bathroom with outside access, washer/dryer, fast Wi-Fi, and beach toys galore. Kalama was easy to work with and very helpful. Beautiful Waimanalo beach is close enough for a walk, and there are restaurants and Shimas Grocery store nearby. The lighthouse hike is also a short drive away. Very happy! Mahalo!

Awesome ocean views with snorkeling right off the beach. Enjoyed evenings on the pier with relaxing wind and ocean sounds. Occasionally a sea turtle would come to the surface to say hello. Owner/ Captain Mike took us out on an unforgettable sail to Manana Island and back! Unfortunately Robins' Nest of Magnum PI fame is nothing what it used to be. Our former president purchased this historic landmark through a Chicago Investor and has leveled the main house and seawall and is building a sprawling estate on top of the $8.5 million purchase price of the property. (Pretty good for a job that paid ~$300,000 annually for 8 years.)
Other than that enjoyed every minute!

Amazing Views & Super Clean!
Visiting Hawaii with my daughter during a major shutdown, we were elated to find this cozy cottage with an incredible view! The hosts were friendly and very responsive. We look forward to staying here again during our next visit to the islands.

Excellent stay, great location, beautiful beaches and amazing sunrises. Also sailing with Mike was wonderful. Highly recommend this property. We are coming back soon!

Kitchen has an ant problem. Leave any kind of food out on the counter and it is inundated with hundreds of tiny ants. Also TV remote needs new batteries and the cable box doesn’t seem to do anything. Otherwise it was a fabulous stay. Very good place by the beach and Mike is great!

With homeless encampments and burned out cars very close by makes one a bit nervous leaving valuables around when away. There were instructions for garage door, but there was no opener and when inquired of same was indicated to just leave it open. huh? There is a new concrete driveway which is great, but the security gate was open entire stay. What is the point of giving instructions for codes etc. when they are not in use? Same for front door- described a different lock set to one actually in use; fishing poles- rods, reels, but line and lures would help so too would a cleaned up garage and washer/dryer area.. After sweeping the floor, emptying trash bags and moving some stuff as to park it made due. Functional kitchen, small bathroom, postage stamp shower. It all works tho and with the futon turned around so one can at least see the small tv for a late night flick is workable, but you don't stay here for the tube. Morning coffee watching the sunrise on the ocean view is:)
Suggestions:
Update house binder with relevant and current information- it's not 2015!
Clean out and reorganize the sand/surf toy box- musty and dirty and get some chairs to use at beach.
Clean cupboards better (bugs) and definitely ac vents ugh!
Figure out how guests should park- Escalade views in the mornings are no good.
Tall folk-watch your head- like I said it is tight.
Overall- decent place to crash out if super tired otherwise the highway noise might wake you.
Aloha

Overall, enjoyed staying here. The place is a bit rustic.
Stove, kitchen in general, could use an update. Very comfortable bed, but if you are on the ocean side, watch your head as the roofline is quite low.
Slightly disappointed that the windows in the bedroom were pretty dirty, would have been nice to wake up to that amazing view, and it is pretty amazing.
We didnt swim or snorkel, but if we did we would have used our own gear. There is an old cooler on the porch filled with items, either people left them behind or they are the owners, but they smelled musty and werent in great shape. Huge palm frond in the outside shower, which we also didnt use.
If we are ever in that part of Ohau again, we would be more than happy to stay there.

Awesome Hawaiian Style Home
I highly recommend this beautiful home on the beach with a million dollar ocean view of Rabbit Island. The sunrise is amazing and the full moon was breathtaking. You can swim and snorkel in the back yard! Mike and Patrick have the aloha spirit and made us feel at home. They took us on a boat ride that was so much fun!!! We also purchase beautiful art and books by Patrick Ching that he signed for us!

Amazing!
My family of four never left the property one they arrived. Everything is Right outside your front door: snorkeling, beach, paddle boarding. The views of rabbit island are spectacular. One of the highlights of our trip was a ride on Michael’s sailing canoe. We will most definitely be back!

Gorgeous views and setting
Quaint older but clean cottage below the road and between the ocean and the cliffs. Good location for travel to different areas of the island.
I think the photos and amenities need to be updated as we had no dishwasher (which for us was fine) and the washer/dryer was in the garage amongst a lot of boxes, tools and clothes.
This may be just temporary as there’s some landscaping going on.
The front gate was open and we had no clicker to close the garage so lock your vehicle.
Friendly people and quick to respond with questions or concerns.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Unbelievable views
The location cannot be beat. Unbelievable views, private beach, beautiful mountains, and cliffs. Watching the lightning storms over the ocean was one of the prettiest things I’ve seen. This is the place you imagine when you dream of going to Hawaii. The check-in process was really easy, the house was easy to find, and the house was very clean. They had a pack n play waiting in the house for us. There’s a hammock, swings, a hot tub, basically everything you could want from a Hawaiian stay. Mike was really nice and took us out on his boat! I wish we could stay forever. Thank you for the wonderful vacation.

RIGHT ON THE BEACH, BEAUTIFUL VIEWS, GREAT NEIGHBORS
This is our second time staying at Mike's property. Each time has been great. You're right on the beach. There is a pier you can fish on and catch all sorts of fun little fish. My little son loved to go snorkeling each morning and fish in in the afternoon.
The cottage is cozy and comfortable, it is very conveniently located and was easy to get around all the beautiful beaches and famous scenic locations.
It was an awesome 7 days!!!!
Thank you!!!!

Beautiful views!
We stayed in Waikiki before staying here and are so happy when we finally got to leave the busy city! This cottage is everything I wanted. Simple interior with everything you need and amazing views! The host, Mike, was so friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend giving a donation and going out on his sailboat. This place and Mike made our trip perfect!

Beach Cottage in a Beautiful Location
I stayed at this cottage for 4 nights at the end of July 2019 with my wife, son and daughter. I chose this property largely because of its oceanfront location on the windward side of Oahu, and it did not disappoint. The views are stunning. Standing in the dining room or on the lanai, you look across a vast expanse of Pacific Ocean and can watch a beautiful sunrise over Rabbit Island. If you stand in the front yard and look behind you, you see the towering cliffs below Deadman’s Catwalk. It’s easy to believe that “Lost” was filmed near here. It’s a 30 second walk from the lanai across the grass to the waterfront. There is a bench and chair where you can sit and watch the ocean and soak in the trade winds, perfect for sunrises or enjoying an evening glass of POG & Rum. The wooden pier extends pretty far into the ocean and at the end you can hear the surf crashing on the distant reef that protects this part of the coastline. There is also a small area of sandy beach access to the ocean. One of the family’s favorites from this trip was to go down to the beach just before sunset and watch the ghost crabs excavate their holes in the sand and occasionally fight their neighbors or a lazy crab trying to steal a hole. A neighbor also showed us his "pet" octopus who has a nest under the pier.
The cottage itself is not fancy but it provides the essentials and has a genuine charm to it. There is a large bed upstairs in the loft and a futon in the living room that was comfortable enough for sleeping. There is a full kitchen if you want to cook and some basic supplies (salt, sugar, coffee, etc.). The air conditioning works great (a feature often overlooked in Hawaii rentals). There is a separate entry directly into the bathroom and an outside shower there to rinse off sand and salt before you come in. The property has three or four separate residences but everyone was courteous and quiet. The property is a 3-minute drive from Waimanalo Beach Park (where there was parking available on weekdays in the middle of summer). My wife and daughter spent parts of several days there and said it was the best beach they had ever visited (except maybe Harbour Island in The Bahamas) – clean and silky sand. Even though it's on the other side of the mountains, you can get to easily get to Pearl Harbor / Honolulu in about 35-40 minutes (but avoid rush hour!).
The bottom line is that if/when we return to Oahu for another visit, we would like to stay here again.

Well located but noisy
Well located to visit the East and North coast.
Yet next to the road (even if you do not see it), so it's quite noisy.
The pictures depicting the site describe well what you see there. However the interior of the house is quite worn out, hense not attractive at all.

Perfect Vacation!!! My family and I had the greatest time, from the second you set foot on this property you can feel that this location is truly a magical place - Paradise found. Laycie made sure everything was in order for our arrival. The Cottage was very clean, cozy and we had everything we needed for a perfect relaxing stay. Our favorite things were as follows: Waking up in the morning enjoying coffee and breakfast on the porch, walking on the pier, sitting on the bench, swing and or hammock with the most beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and Rabbit Island. Another favorite was going to the beach which is truly virtually a private beach. You do not see very many people and if you do they are very friendly and share the same feeling of happiness of enjoying an uncrowded beach. You feel like you are on your own private Island. You do not get this in Waikiki or at a Resort. This property is Ocean front which means it is just you and the calm relaxing sound and beauty of the Pacific Ocean just steps from your porch. This property is centrally located not far from Kaliua, Waimanalo and Hawaii Kai with a long list of dining options or with a full kitchen and barbecue pit you can eat your meals on property. We were fortunate enough to go sailing with Mike and Jeanie which was certainly one of the highlites of our trip. Mike and Jeanie are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and along with Laycie made our trip both memorable and fun. My two kids loved playing in the yard, on the pier, laying in the hammock, the beach, Sea life Park. We certainly used the cottage as a home base to explore the Island which is beautiful (Lanikai, Bellows Beach, North Shore, Makapuu), but we would find ourselves back at the cottage just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views. We also did not have to travel far to go boogie boarding and surfing. We truly had the time of our life!!! Mike, Jeanie and Laycie thank you for making us feel like Ohana and we definately plan on see you again soon.
Aloha,
Cole and Family

I have to say what a magical place this is. Cottage location is a dream! We also went out on a sailboat ride with the owner. What a cool dude with a beautiful catamaran. We enjoyed seeing the migrating Arctic Turns out on Rabbit Island and my boyfriend spotted a Sea Turtle on the way. The propery manager, Lacie, was amazing and knowledgeable and made sure our stay was more than pleasant. One day the electricity went out for a little bit but that was due to a storm and nothing to do with the cottage. That was remedied quickly enough, and I appreciated the owners and the property manager making it a priority to figure out the situation. If you want to get away from the touristy areas of Oahu and enjoy a relaxing stay in paradise, this is your place! Romantic, quiet, and breathtakingly beautiful. The only consideration for you is that the bathroom is down stairs from the loft bedroom, so as long as you have no issues with that, you will find this place a perfect paradise in all ways! Aloha!

We spent 7 days at the unbelievable property. Everything was just as they said breath taking. We did not want to leave. They even had a chicken there that we found out was named sarah and I was able to feed her out of my hand by the time we left. I could go on and on about everything but to make this easy I'm gonna say that this place had everything we expected and more. The property manager was so nice and the owner mike was so nice. Man we did not want to leave. When we drove off I felt like I was losing a friend and my stomach was bad upset on leaving. Maybe one day we will go back and if we do there is only one place I would stay and that's here. The beaches where the absolute most beautiful beaches on the whole island with a 2 mile radius of property and right in front of cottage. Water was crystal clear and we had sea turtle that you could see from the most wonderful pier I have ever seen. Again book this place and you won't be disappointed.

This was our 9th stay here in Waimanalo at Mike & Jeanne's property. We have rented all 3 homes on one or more trips - Honu is our favorite for the 2 of us. Once again we had a wonderful & restful time. We ate at Ono's for lunch & dinner several times. Outstanding coconut shrimp! New restaurant - Assagio in Hawaii Kai was great. Our favorite - Kalapawai in Kailua was wonderful. We did Agnes Portuguese Bakery twice for Malassadas. Fished from the pier most days, but no catches this trip. We will be back in March!

Twelve days in paradise to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary! Even through the weather was not the best it was much better than back home! The views from your property are world class! Coffee in AM & wine in the PM on the swing were amazing. The whales put on quite a show several times! The walk/hike up to the lighthouse was just what we needed to make up for the great food from Ono's. The farmers' market in Kailua is a do not miss on Thursday. Great food & lovely fresh produce! Thank you, thank you to Mike, Jeanne & Laycie for your warm Hawaiian hospitality!

I have stayed at Mike's cottages three times now. My wife and I are young techies from Brooklyn who look to get the most out of our vacations - these cottages are PERFECT for folks who aren't interested in a touristy shopping experience, but want to see Oahu for what it is known for: beautiful beaches, beautiful hikes, excellent and affordable cuisine, local culture, and ADVENTURE.
The town where the cottages are located, Waimanalo, is the best possible location on the island. Some highlights:
1. The trailhead for one the best hiking / mountain biking trails is less than 3 miles from these cottages. Ask a bike shop in Kailua to point you where to go.
2. Three of the best beaches are right up the street: Lanikai Beach, Kailua Beach, and the Marine Base Beach (open to public on Saturday and Sunday)
3. Hawaii Kai and Kailua offer some of the best food on the island, and are WAY cheaper than what you will eat downtown.
4. Discover island pastimes like the Makapu'u lighthouse walk and Pillbox hike
5. Check out Windward Sports in Kailua for an affordable week-long package where you can swap out surf or boogieboards, kayaks, snorkel gear, and bikes.

This is an excellent place to stay in Hawaii! Especially if you don't care for the crowds. You have your own beach with a great view and snorkeling. It has very easy access and everything you need close by. We had a very relaxing time. We will definitely rent here again when we come back.

We had such a great time at the Honu Hale and we did not want to leave! The beach house was perfect and looks exactly like it does in the photos. It's great for two people and maybe if you had one or two younger kids that could sleep on a pull out sofa downstairs. We came for our wedding/honeymoon and it was a perfect size for us. The house was very clean and well maintained with newer appliances and great cooking utensils. They have some great beach gear for guest to borrow, too. We had an outdoor shower on the porch that I wasn't aware of upon booking. The house can get kind of warm, especially upstairs but there is a powerful A/C that can solve that problem.
We had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Mike and Jeanne, they were so nice and took us sailing on their Catamaran. We went out towards Rabbit Island where we saw three Monk Seals taking it easy and soaking up the sun along the shore. This is a great place to stay, you can't go wrong booking here.

Our time in this cottage could not have been more perfect. The house was well equipped with everything we could possibly need for our family of four. We particularly appreciated the towels, sunscreen, beach chairs, swim shoes, and boogie boards--it was so nice to not have to worry about packing or buying those things! The location was wonderful, especially the close proximity (only a couple of miles) to Sandy Beach, the sea-life park, and takeout food options in Waimanalo. We loved sitting on the lanai and taking in the view and watching sunrises from the pier. We saw fish and turtles as we snorkeled right off of the pier. Most special were the sailboat rides Mike gave us--what a memorable and much appreciated touch! And they will always remember how he helped the kids cut down and open a coconut. The kids feel that if they ever return to Hawaii it will not be the same unless they stay in this house again. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Mahalo Mike and Jeanne for a wonderful stay! The beach is beautiful and the house is charming! I just wish you had some control over the weather, but we did get a couple of gorgeous days! For our first trip to Hawaii it was amazing! We would love to be able to bring our kids and stay in the bigger house some day!
