About this house rental
Located in Paia, this attractive house for $2,242 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Maui County Rental permit - STPH 2013/0008 TA-048-493-9776-01 / GE-048-493-9776-01 TMK-260040080000 WALK TO EVERYTHING IN PAIA TOWN! The setting is just stunning! Enter the back gate, and the first view looking through the glass door, across the entry area, and beyond the patio is of the ocean framed by palm trees, and the sandy beaches of Paia, Baldwin and Spreckelsville. The property is fenced and lined with vegetation on both sides to provide great privacy. It sits at the end of a little laneway, WALKING distance to all of the shops and restaurants in Paia. Sitting between the house and the ocean is a 50 foot lap pool and a hot-tub. NOTE: The ocean is rocky in front of the house, and therefore NO ocean access from the property.. All rooms with the exception of the play room and the 4th bedroom face directly to the ocean! The ground level has a master suite facing out to the ocean, with a large bathroom (shower). There is a very well equipped kitchen, large living area, and of course, views from all rooms. The ground level has polished concrete floors. The second level has three bedrooms with king, king, queen bed (two face to the ocean) and a playroom (2 twin beds). There are two full bathrooms on the upper level. New: we now have split-zone A/C in the 3 king bedrooms and the queen bedroom. HOUSE RULES: We are delighted that you are considering this property for your vacation lodging. We are sure that you would enjoy this lovely vacation home. This property has a vacation rental permit issued by the County of Maui, and is subject to the rules and restrictions imposed by the County for all short term rental homes. Please understand that we would be unable to accept a rental that does not agree to abide by these rules. Note: properties without a short term rental permit are subject to closure by the County. 1. Neighbors - Please be considerate of our neighbors. Noise carries easily to their homes, particularly in the evening. NO loud music, NO parties, NO amplified sound of any nature at any time. Many neighbors must be up early in the morning to go to work, and it's important that your use of this property does not impact them in any way. 2. Quiet Hours - Quiet time is from 9pm to 8am. 3. Use of the Property - Additional friends/family CANNOT be invited to the property and it cannot be used as a “meeting place”. The property can be used ONLY by the guests listed on the rental agreement. The County law allows us to accommodate a maximum of two guests x the number of bedrooms. 4. Parking - There is plenty of parking on the property. Vehicles CANNOT be parked on the street at any time. When vehicles are on the street, there is insufficient space for emergency vehicles, fire trucks, the trash truck or neighbors to get down the road. 5. Minimum of 1 guest must meet the minimum age requirement of 25. At the time of booking, we'll forward the property rental agreement for review and acceptance. Additional information with respect to care and maintenance of the house will be included in the rental agreement. Payment is accepted by check, VISA or MC. For guests preferring to use VISA or MC, a 2% processing fee will be added.

The property was lovely - private, beautiful, large, well-appointed - and was very convenient to shops, restaurants, and beaches. The rental company and property manager were very responsive and helpful!

Honestly this house exceeded every expectation we had. Our group consisted of my wife and I, our 17 year old daughter and her best friend, and our 20 year old son and his best friend. The house was set up perfectly for a group of our size. The rooms were great and each bedroom having A/C was huge! Literally everything was perfect. The pool and hot tub were great. The view of the ocean was incredible and there were sea turtles in the water right next to the house everyday. Management was fabulous and very helpful throughout. And the town of Paia is in perfect walking distance. We walked to dinner and lunch and getting coffee or breakfast everyday. When we come back to Maui we will definitely stay here again. Truly the pictures don’t do it justice!

Paia village is super nice at walking distance. House is very nice and widely built and the whole facade can be opened so you really live inside and outside and close to the spectacular scenery.

Closer to town than we'd expected, but plenty private. The ability to walk to town was great.

As for the cons, the house does not have central air conditioning. There are window AC units in 3 of the bedrooms, but they are very noisy (70db); too noisy to sleep. The main living area (kitchen, living room, dining area) has no AC, so you need to leave doors open. However, only 1 of the 5 doors had a functioning screen. The net result was lots of centipedes and lizards coming in and the main area being very warm. The beds are very soft and the toilet handle in the master bathroom toilet was broken and the toilet had to be flushed by pulling the chain up in the tank. We have stayed on multiple properties on Maui, and this was by the least comfortable. In its current state, we can’t recommend this property to anyone.

Heaven
My sister lives in Paia and we wanted a place to stay close to her with our two small children. This house was heavenly. Stunning views, impeccable architecture and design of the interior and exterior. Everything was perfect. A short few minute walk to town, groceries, shopping. We will definitely be back!

This is without question the best house of its size on the north shore. It may not be possible to find another within walking distance to Paia town that is both on the water and has a pool. Amazing views of Paia Bay and perfect check-in / property management. One of our best vacation home rentals ever.

The location and proximity to town was wonderful. Loved the views and sounds of the ocean.
Couldn’t give 5 stars because the house was very hot most of the time because no central A/C except for bedrooms. There also was an issue with, what Norm said, was termite dust coming from A/C unit in one of the bedrooms and leaving a dusting on the bed. We would consider this property again

Wonderful house in Maui!
We had a amazing stay. The house was wonderful and location were very good. It's hardly been clear at all. It has mostly just been raining. But it was nice house and town, I had a fun and comfortable time there. I strongly recommend this property.

Simply the Best!
I have rented this house twice and will undoubtedly be renting it again. This is truly a spectacular home with every comfort imaginable. My good friend and his family will be renting it next month based on our recommendation. We enjoy the location and proximity to Paia and all of the wonderful local dining options. On departure day, it is not easy to leave this view and the sound of the crashing waves behind. We have stayed in five or six different homes/condos on Maui and this is simply the best we have found!

Wanted to stay longer
The house was amazing. We liked how close the house was to the road to Hana, so we were able to see a lot of sites in that area. It also was a pretty easy drive up to Haleakala. We had the opportunity to see the beautiful sunrise and then afterwards had breakfast at the Kula lodge. The Old Lahaina Luau was fun. To be honest, our favorite thing was just lounging in the backyard listening to the waves, looking for turtles, and watching the surfers. I wish we had spent more time just laying in the backyard. We also liked Charlie’s a lot. We ate there three times. Our daughters developed a fondness for the horses that were across the street. Everything about the house and location was wonderful. We were very much upset when it was time to leave and our kids just keep saying, “Couldn’t we have stayed there for three weeks?”

Absolutely wonderful
Makani Akau was just absolutely wonderful. Excellent location, views, house, pool – everything!
We had a lovely time and would love to plan to come back next year but at this stage not sure when. We would definitely like to return to the house when we do.
We did the early morning 630 am Kanani Kai snorkel trip to Molokini Crater. I would definitely recommend that trip. The timing was awesome as we beat the crowds and the staff were wonderful.
Anyway thanks again ever so much for allowing us to leave late. This really made our experience even more wonderful.

Favorite house on Maui
It's with mixed feelings that I write a review for Makani Akau as part of me wants to keep it secret so that it'll be available for us whenever we visit Maui, but the truth is that it's the perfect house on Maui. The sunsets are what inspire movies, the location couldn't be more convenient for exploring everything that Maui has to offer and the house itself is the perfect combination of beach luxury and usable features. The inside/outside living makes it the ultimate family get-together as everyone feels cohesive no matter where you are in the house. One person can be in the kitchen, one on the living room couch, another outside lounging, someone else in the pool and there's still direct communication lines between all four people/spaces. At the same time, if you crave a tropical moment of peace, all you have to do is pop out to the hot tub or into one of the four peaceful ocean view bedrooms. There are no gates for the pool and there's no ability to heat it, so all kids need to be watched and the water temperatures are noticeably chillier than the ocean. The upstairs 'family room' is a bit odd, but if you have a family of four, it's perfect (parents have some privacy, while two kids get their own beds & little play area). The downstairs en-suite is stunning, but not very private with any curtains open as it overlooks the yard and pool, but those are very minor inconveniences. The house is stocked well (beach towels, cooking supplies, etc) and the locked gates make the house feel incredibly safe. We spent a divine week-long family holiday at the house and nobody wanted to leave. The words 'best holiday ever' were uttered more than once, by everyone involved. The layout, location and luxuriously usability of Makani Akau makes it my favorite house on Maui.

Fantastic Stay!
We had a fantastic stay! The house was perfect and we'd love to reserve for next spring. I need to confirm dates.
We enjoyed being able to walk to Paia. Dazoo was a nice dinner option and the kids loved walking in for shave ice and shops. The 5 minute walk to the beach was great. Turtles feeding constantly right in the bay in front of us was fantastic.
We enjoyed Nuka and NorthShore Zipline in Haiku very much. Loved being closer to Ulupalukua Ranch and your lovely Upcountry, in general. The farm table dinner at Market Fresh in Makawao was a memorable highlight.
We've been to Maui nearly 20 times and this was the best stay, hands down. The home and the location were just fantastic.
Also, really appreciated the car rental reservation. It was a far better value.

Absolutely loved our stay at Makani Akau!
We absolutely loved our stay at Makani Akau. The property, the house and the location are spectacular and set the stage for one of our best vacations ever. We were soaking up the Paia Aloha spirit while we were there. Mahalo for the great recommendation and the excellent service that we received, in particular from Norm and Vanessa during our stay.
We will be coming back to Maui, but do not yet know the dates. We will certainly contact you as soon as we know so that we may secure our accommodations.

Watching the surfers and the turtles daily
Running along the beaches all the way to sugar cove

Greatest new discoveries for us:

Even though the restaurants are great, we loved cooking in the gourmet kitchen and dining in. When we needed a break, we sometimes ordered from a restaurant and brought it back to the property because we loved it there so much.

Amazing vacation home!
Thank you very much for your professional service and warm hospitality! My family and I had a great time in Maui. We all love the house so much! It is modern with beautiful furniture. It is clean and very comfortable to accommodate a big family (6 people).
We love to cook, and very happy with the kitchen. It is great and well equipped. My suggestion to the people don't mind cooking by yourself is that even renting a house is more expensive than renting condos but you do save a lot of money by cooking by yourself. At same time, you make sure you have high quality of food and a nice family dinner time.
The pool and hot tub are great after surfing in the beach at Paia which is just 5 minutes walk. It is wonderful watching the surfers from the living room when you get up in the morning and it is beautiful watching sunset when you are swimming in the pool in the evening.
The house is far away from touristy areas which provides nice village feeling. At the same time, it is only 20 minutes driving to airport and large shopping mall. It is the place you can fill up gas and buy food when you do Hana drive.
We definitely to return the house when we have holiday in Maui again.
