Nestled in Claytor Lake, this lovely cabin for $1,491 per night is a great choice for your next break. The Avonlea Cottage is a breathtaking luxury cabin with a million dollar view of Claytor Lake in the idyllic town of Hiwassee, Virginia, with lake frontage and access to a dock. This 3750 sq. ft, 4 bedroom, 4 full bathroom (with tubs and showers) home with one queen sleeper sofa sleeps 23. The Master Bedroom includes one queen bed (as well as a full size crib for babies or small children), Upstairs Bedroom #1 includes 2 queen beds, Upstairs Bedroom #2 includes one queen bed, and the landing upstairs includes 2 twin daybeds with twin trundles. The bedroom downstairs includes 3 queen beds as well as a queen daybed with a twin trundle. Freshly and beautifully decorated in a lake home theme with restful blues, grays and creams, there are quality linens on the luxury beds that will provide you with a wonderful night of sleep. You won't find another luxury rental with such a peaceful ambiance. There is a first-class gourmet kitchen including a Viking range, refrigerator, freezer and all high end stainless steel appliances. Granite throughout the large kitchen, curly maple cabinetry and endless room to whip up gourmet confections. The kitchen comes stocked with many different cooking appliances, stand mixer, etc. We just added an extra large log dining room table to accommodate everyone in the kitchen at one time! All rooms throughout the cottage have a fantastic view of Claytor Lake, there is also a vast stone patio with multiple levels and views, including a fire pit area (wood provided). Bathrooms include luxury towel warmers, granite countertops and a Jacuzzi tub in the Master Bathroom. A gathering room downstairs includes a pool table, air hockey table, Foosball table, dartboard, bar area (including SubZero refrigerator, freezer drawers, professional capacity icemaker, deluxe wine refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave), kitchen table, and fireplace with plenty of room for large groups. There is also a large laundry room with 2 sets of washers and dryers. Outside, there is a large stainless steel Viking outdoor gas grill with rotisserie attachment, perfect for barbecues and big gatherings (propane provided). We also have plenty of inner tubes for floating, horseshoes, outdoor park grill (please bring charcoal if interested), paddle boards and 6 (10 ft.) kayaks for the guests, tons of fun things to do for the kids and family! Surrounded by many acres of forestland and natural beauty, privacy is not an issue. You will likely see bald eagles soaring over the lake as they frequently choose trees on the property to nest in every year! Yet, you are still just a short drive away from the picturesque and historic town of Pulaski, Virginia, as well as close to many other hubs of activity like Radford, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and Roanoke. A Virginia Tech football game is less than an hour's drive away! Offering wonderful opportunities for dining and shopping, as well as the performing arts, including the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, you are never far away from whatever you may wish to experience on your getaway. The owner of this property clearly understands how to make you feel at home with family. This home can easily sleep extended family and friends too, and in every room there was thoughtful treats, bottles of water, etc. With all the amenities, there is something to enjoy by everyone. Easy for memories to be had here and we can’t wait to return.

We recently stayed over the long weekend. Our family group included multigenerational members from college age to two year old. The house has a perfect set-up for small children (lots of toys and books) The game room is a perfect set up for large family gathering and game nights. Everything was labeled in the kitchen and had many different appliances for ease of cooking.
The host, Rita, was thoughtful in providing welcome goodies and was very quick to respond to any question we had. The only aspect that proved to be difficult was the “walk” down to the water. Once we realized you could drive a car down the side road, it made it more convenient. The kayaks and tubes were a big hit, unfortunately you could not rent a boat at that location. It is a beautiful home and we had a wonderful weekend.

Wow! I'm not sure where to begin. This property is stunning and the house is immaculate. The owner has thought of everything! The pictures do not do the house or the view justice in the slightest. We had a blast down by the water during the day floating, paddling, and playing volleyball. Would stay here again without hesitation!

This house was perfect!! We had 3 families including 6 kids and we all had a great time here. It is a trek down to the lake, very steep road, but you can drive people and stuff down and back if needed. The floating dock was a favorite for the kids and we all enjoyed the kayaks and SUP’s. The fire pit was fun for a night and the views were outstanding. The hosts have this house very well stocked with many things, which is great since it is a bit of a treck down a gravel road to get to any stores. I would definitely stay here again and for as many nights as possible, just loved it!

Our family of 14 stayed here for 4 nights. The house was even better than advertised! Rita the homeowner was outstanding at hosting and communicating. We had plenty of beds, bathrooms, living area, things to do, etc. Water was hot and the AC cold. Beautiful front porch and back decks. Two fire pits with firewood provided. The large home overlooks a lakefront lot with a boat dock, beach volleyball, kayaking, swimming, etc. While you can walk to the lakefront lot, we usually drove 2 cars down so my parents, yard games, coolers, etc. had a ride. We would definitely come back!

Description of property is accurate. Our family of 16. 10 kids ages 4-17. I say this because our week was a total rain out for 5 days! Yet, everyone found space and activities throughout the house to still have fun and relaxation. This location is remote and private. That can be good and bad depending on your prep. No restaurants in the area or grocery stores nearby. Kitchen is indeed fully equipped, and gas grill is excellent. Refrigeration and freezer space is plentiful. We cooked all meals indoors and out. Bring alcoholic beverages for your length of stay. While there we had a few questions for the owners, and they were responded immediately to our needs. In total after discussing our stay at our last dinner, all age groups gave the week the big thumbs up! PS: Highly recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle (or 2!) Steep drop from cabin to lake.

We had a graduation party/family reunion here. The property blew everyone away. The house was so clean and beautiful, the view is amazing. Beautiful place
My family and I spent this past week at this vaca home. House was gorgeous. Property was stunningly beautiful. Only issue we noticed, the pictures online don’t show how far the dock and lake are from the house. Luckily you can drive your to and from the dock which make it easy for us. There is not
much to do in the area. So if your looking for a true getaway from the craziness of life this is def the place to go.

This is the 2nd summer vacation we enjoyed Avonlea. The place provided us everything we looked for to build beautiful memories the kids will remember forever.

We really enjoyed the views, kayaking on the lake, making s’mores in the open open fire pit( they provide stuff to make s’mores) and our kids playing pool, foosball and hockey which are all in the basement where most of the kids are sleeping. The kitchen is fully stocked and well organized, which I really love.
One thing that could have been improved would be installing more lights in the main room, it was a little too dark for us. But over all, it was a great and awesome stay. We really enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Perfection
The view is spectacular, the beds are ridiculously comfortable and cozy, the kitchen is very well stocked and the entire house feels like home as soon as you enter. The owners & Sarah has done an amazing job of thinking of everything and making sure that it is stocked and provided. We didn’t want to leave but will definitely be back. 10 out of 10 💯

Peaceful surroundings, gracious host, outstanding accommodations.
Had a wonderful vacation with children and grandchildren (one even born during our stay!) House sits atop a bluff, so exercise was gained in the trek down to the boathouse and back. My 4WD vehicle came in very handy transporting those who where daunted by the climb back to the house (like the expectant mother). The property was in impeccable condition. The area experienced a 26-hour power outage due to a wind storm on our 2nd day, but the whole-generator kicked in and never stopped for the entire duration of the event. The host has really thought of everything.

I read all the reviews before choosing a summer place and completely agree with all the compliments on the house itself and of Sarah! We are already planning on returning next year! Due to Covid and wanting to have a small, intimate wedding, I reached out to Sarah about the possibility of getting married at the Avonlea. She responded within a day that they'd be delighted to be our venue and gave me a detailed breakdown of the costs involved for what we wanted. After COVID restrictions got even tighter and we were concerned about traveling for our honeymoon, we decided to extend our stay and have our honeymoon at the Avonlea as well, and we could not have made a better decision! The property was absolutely beyond spotless inside and immaculately manicured outside. Sarah was friendly, sweet, and responsive through our whole planning process and stay, and helped make sure all our stress melted away as soon as we arrived. They even left us some wonderful goodies and gifts upon our arrival! We had the most beautiful wedding and relaxing honeymoon at the Avonlea, and could not have been happier with our stay.
