Wonderfully spacious property, easily accessible. Very well appointed kitchen with everything needed. Large spaces accommodated our extended family with gathering spaces, as well as, space to get away. Great dining room with an awesome pool table across the way.

We all enjoyed our stay at the Laura Nelson Honeymoon Cottage. The house is an older home with lots of character, and plenty of room for our group to spread out. It is right across the street from a beautiful sculpture garden and museum, and a short walk to the Country Club Plaza area with plenty of restaurants and shopping. Greg was a wonderful host, very responsive, and gave us a great history of the house. Thank you!

What a huge house and amazing accomodations. Fantastic access to the plaza and Westport. Greg was great to work with and the gigantic patio was a great place to hang out in the sun!

Great place for a large group - plenty of beds and lots of great communal areas. Our host was incredibly accommodating and made our stay very enjoyable!

The house was great for a group of 12 guys on our annual weekend trip. Plenty of space, kitchen well stocked, large patio, and multiple places in the house to gather. Location is great across the street from the museum and a few blocks from the Plaza neighborhood. Everyone in the group gave it two thumbs up.

This house was absolutely perfect for our party of 14! Planning a bachelorette party can be stressful, especially when we wanted to all stay together - but the host made the entire process so easy and was beyond accommodating. Even better we were allowed to decorate which was truly surprising given the grandeur of the home. Thanks to the host our entire stay was perfect! Would highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Laura Nelson House. Our large group fit comfortably into this charming old home and the layout was perfect for gathering, both inside and out. Everything we needed (and more!) was provided. Extremely well-stocked kitchen and and lots of space for cooking, flower arranging (we were in town for a wedding), and hanging out. A bonus was the Nelson-Atkins Museum across the street with free entry. We came with 5 vehicles, and were able to park them in the driveway while road work was completed on the side street. Greg, our host, was helpful and gave a tour of the house upon arrival. Highly recommend this home!

We were a group of 10 who used all 6 bedrooms to attend a family wedding. The location near the Nelson-Atkins Museum and a short walk to the Plaza was great. Our host provided us with coffee and waters and many conveniences. Our group enjoyed mornings on the large deck and playing pool. Parking was great. Nice area to walk around and very quiet.

This is the second time we've taken a class of students to Kansas City on a field trip and all stayed at this house. The two best things about it, for our purposes, is the location (a walk to the museum) and the roominess. Even a group of 16 has plenty of private space. On top of all that, the house's antique charm and ample entertainment areas provide a spirit of fun to our stay. The property manager is very hospitable and responsive. Highly recommended for large groups.

Celebrated 80th birthday with family traveling in from all directions. It was nice to have so many staying under one roof. Used all of the rooms for entertaining, eating, and visiting, with the deck getting lots of sun in the afternoon. (And the stairs provide plenty of exercise.) Yeah, the house is older and not pristine - but that adds to the charm and experience. Location next to art museum and other open green space is nice as well. Overall, a wonderful place - thank you.

The proximity of the house to the Nelson-Atkins Museum, the park, and the Plaza were what drew us to this property. The owner, Greg, was cheerful and easy to work with.
Check-in was simple, although Greg was working on the 3rd floor AC when we arrived at 4:00 pm check-in time. He resorted to in stalling four window units for that floor - and that was fine.
The house was not clean. Surfaces were dusty, the floors were unswept (food on floor in kitchen & den), and carpeting was not vacuumed. After we checked in, we stayed downstairs while Greg worked on the AC problem. Then he came down and told us he would be cleaning the bathrooms upstairs. (Four bathrooms)
The house is old and in differing stages of repair and disrepair. The photos in the VRBO are not updated to reflect the house, or the decor. Greg returned the following day to mow the yard. Weeds in the front gardens, overlooking the museum, were 4' tall, and remained there for the duration of our stay. The back yard was inaccessible because of tall weeds and discarded furniture.
The property could do with a professional cleaning service, and a regular landscaping service. The vibe of the house was that of a youth hostel, which is not bad thing, but for the current price of rental we anticipated more.

The house was big enough for 20+ people. We had 4 for the weekend. The hot water heater could not keep up with 4 showers in a row. The heat on the main floor was a balmy 52-58 degrees for most of our stay(tried adjusting the thermostat did not work. Emailed the owner, did not respond).
The house is a work in progress and was not noted in the description. I would not recommend staying in the winter as the drafts in the windows, doors and walls make it very cold in the house.
There is plenty of room, lots of comfortable blankets and enough kitchen utensils to feed an army. I would have expected more for the price I paid.
I would not stay here again.

We booked this property for our small wedding and we loved it! It's getting some renovations so there's so TLC still being added, but it was absolutely perfect for what we needed! Greg was super easy to work with!

The Nelson Mansion was a great place for our family gathering. Plenty of room, fully operational kitchen and fantastic butler's pantry. The beds we're very comfortable, and the restrooms numerous, roomy, and lovely. I would suggest adding more photos of the kitchen/family room area and game room. We will definitely stay here again!

The Laura Nelson Mansion provided all the amenities that a hotel could not.
It was roomy, it was private, it accommodated for large party in a family atmosphere. Each room had it's own character and made you feel right at home. Our purpose for being here was a 50th Birthday party and we would definitely return for more milestones birthdays. The owner was easy to reach out to and quickly responded.

Great location to lots of Activities
My college friends and I meet once a year to catch up and the Laura Nelson Mansion made the perfect location to gather for a long weekend and hangout. It had lots of rooms for us to stay. It had entertainment areas when we stayed in and it was close to several areas to explore and restaurants. It made for the perfect meeting spot in the downtown area. We enjoyed catching up and the space was perfect for that event.

Great Location, Great for Large Groups, House Needs Attention
We had an absolutely great time at the Laura Nelson Mansion over the 4th of July holiday.
We were in town for a sort of family reunion and rented the house for 4 nights, with up to 11 people staying. Ultimately for us the house was probably too big because most of those were couples and with the double beds in two rooms we didn't need that much space. But for a large group there is enough space for all!
There were absolute pros to staying at the mansion and a few areas of improvement. My recommendation on staying there or not really depends on your personal tolerance.
Pros: The location near the museum and the Plaza made it even more fun especially allowing for folks who wanted to be more active or walk to shopping, food and entertainment.
Size of the house and bedrooms, extra bonus room with usable computer and pool table and the outside covered (and some uncovered) deck space, along with a family room off the kitchen, huge dining area and little breakfast nook gave ample space to spread out and be comfortable and lots to do just in the house alone.
Kitchen was well stocked, coffee maker, large refrigerator, cooler for drinks outside. Two washer and dryers available, well stocked towels, all of the amenities you could want while traveling. A PERFECT house to entertain in.
Areas of improvement. It is a century home that has been poorly maintained, there is a lot of water damage throughout, boards on the decked are bowed and dangerous in some spots. Shingles on the outside are rotted and falling off in places. The pictures online are NOT current at all, they appear to be after a renovation that is not what is looks like now. Pictures cover other water damage especially in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Carpets are old, at least one has paint spills. etc... The oven needs to be cleaned, we were almost afraid to cook in it. Like another reviewer said, it definitely needs some TLC.
None of this makes me wish we hadn't rented it. It just makes me wish there were more improvements and investment into this amazing home, which I believe he is doing - he was working on it when we arrived. The owner was responsive and helpful, easy to work with.

Beautiful Historic Home
This lovely house was a perfect size for 11 people. We even had room to spread out, with a dining room, living room, TV room, game room, and a large outdoor deck. But, being an older home, it does need TLC. The location of the house was perfect.

Thank you Greg for being so accommodating! We had an awesome time in your house. Plenty of space to spread out with very comfortable beds and a bathroom for each family. We enjoyed the historic home and the patio was perfect for entertaining.

History and great location but...
I am an old house lover and not bothered by settlement cracks or older bathrooms. This house was past the charm of an old house and really needs some work done to it. I didn't feel unsafe, but I felt like a college kid making do in a rundown rental. The pictures on the site are not up to date. The host was friendly and the beds were comfortable with clean, soft linens. The kitchen was more updated and the living areas downstairs are suitable. The middle floor living area had piles of misc papers, cords, and general stuff that was covered in dust, but my teenagers enjoyed the pool table. We were counting on the piano for my son to practice his school pieces - there was no piano. It was definitely a bargain price, but next time I'll pay more to stay in a different place.

Large historical home with a beautiful location
My cousins and I needed to book the home to attend our grandmother's funeral. We traveled from Arizona, Texas, and North Carolina collectively. The owner was accommodating. The house was very clean and met our needs - 11 adults, 1 teenager, and 2 babies. The outdoor space accommodated visits from our aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the weekend. I highly recommend booking for a large group visiting Kansas City.

Amazing home great location wonderful balcony
I hosted 16 girls for a bachelorette party and we had a fabulous time we utilized many of the rooms in the house and I just can't say enough good things about this property it's definitely an old house that needs some repairs but it is gorgeous and it was everything we needed for what we were doing for the weekend.

HOUSEKEEPING
The house and location are terrific, especially for a group. Beds were excellent, comfortable; rooms are spacious, bathrooms are large, great showers. Well equipped kitchen; good electronics everywhere.
CONS: Ants in the kitchen and one of the bedrooms. Greg, the owner, did come over and spray when we called but the ants returned, we decided to put up with them for the 2 nights. Back and front porches had not been swept so much debris, leaves, dirt in those areas. Would have made a better appearance if they had been swept before we arrived.
The location is fabulous; everything of interest is within 10 minutes; parks across the street and to one side made it great for jogging, walking, etc.

The house was HUGH!! Plenty of room, for 12 adults.. I had my bachelor party there!
When we arrive the house was clean. It had a cool pool table and gaming area the way to the house that is designed it's just really unique. But the location right across from the Nelson Atkins art gallery is just amazing you can be any of the cool spots in Kansas City within a matter of 10 minutes and it's a historic spot so if you're looking at other places in which I did for the price and anything comparable and the location location location it was awesome I want to thank our host
