Great stay but there’s room for improvement

cosy, friendly staff.

insufficient heating - actually none at all - so winter was quite uncomfortable. the towels felt wet all the time. The food was underwhelming to me.

It was as great as my first stay was! The employees were all incredible.

Breakfast was great. All the meals were great! All the amenities were great, too!

No wi-fi in the room. It's great that it was available at the lodge, but I would have liked an option to have wi-fi in my room, also. It would be worth paying extra for it

Exceptional

We came here for the safari and it didn’t disappoint. We had six amazing game drives with Themba and Golden - absolute legends - where we saw plenty of animals from Leopard to Rhinos and everything in between. We had Aubrey to look after us throughout our stay - again, legend - and basically all staff there from management to housekeeping were just so amazingly kind and helpful. The 10-rating is without a doubt because of them.

We understood that the lodge is now around 8 years old, and time has taken its toll on the lodge and accommodation. While the doors to the room did close, it didn’t do so properly, leaving gaps between the door and door step which could easily fit all sorts of insects and bugs. We also had holes in our blankets and towels, which of course is a minor detail, but given the price point should be an easy thing to fix. Besides that there were plenty of small details from which you could see that the place could definitely need a refresh. I would definitely recommend the Simbavati Hilltop, but come here for the staff and safari and not for the accommodation.

Interesting experience, but not sure I would choose Simbavati again

Sitting in the top of a hill facing the reservoir, you can easily spot animals from your balcony. Refreshing pool.

- Not really comfortable on hot days as the room AC can’t cool down a tent with open windows. - Some equipment and structure in room and hotel needs refurb. - Game drives were not as successful as the ones we had at Kapama, but we did saw the big 5 after 4 drives. The afternoon drive seem to leave a bit too early for the summer time, maybe 30min later would be better. - Food/Beverage options a bit more limited than I expected for the price paid. Food was tasty though! - Avoid self driving - I got there with a tiny rented car but it can be a bit dangerous as it is quite isolated with several kms of unpaved road.

The Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is a very special location. Since the first minute we felt in love with this beautiful place within the Kruger Nationalpark. Welcomed by Brad, Caroline and the team directly let us felt at home. Our Lodge had a view into the wild. Lying on the day bed on the balcony was so relaxing. And we even could spot Giraffes and other wildlife. The Lodge itself was equipped with everything that is needed. Also the bathroom with the tube with a view and the outdoor shower was so special. Daniel was taking care of us during breakfast, lunch and dinner. By the way: the meals are incredible and Daniel is also a good bar tender. Always good for a joke. Rudolf and Thabo, our Game Drive driver and tracker, where incredible. They tried to fullfill all the wishes and yes, we saw the Big 5. Rudolf explained a lot about the animals and answered every question. Thanks again to the Simbavati Hilltop Lodge team for this "Once in a lifetime" experience.

Exceptional

Simbavati is a magnificent place. So quiet, scenic and luxurious. Brett and the team are an amazing bunch and took care of us as guests so well. We received the same hospitality that was afforded to international tourists which is refreshing. The tents are clean, comfortable and the outside shower is wonderful. The deck with private daybed overlooking the dam is so peaceful and relaxing. The food is tasty and personal service is attentive. The game drives we had with Josia and Derreck were undoubtedly the best safari experience we've had. We saw the big 5, and much more. As an overall package, the experience was well worth it and exceeded our expectations.

Amazing 🤩

We had an amazing stay at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge. The location, staff, food, rooms… basically everything was 5 star. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

Overall, it was an amazing stay, at an amazing location with exceptional staff

the staff was more than attentive and the attention to detail was superb

The walkways were a bit unstable. My husband is diabetic and not feeling stable at all times wasn't ideal. Also, at the end of our stay, one of our party members broke through a board in the walkway and needed stitches,

Blissful, amazing animal watching & 5 star service.

A stunning luxury lodge with no fences, meaning you truly felt immersed in nature. The private rooms were beautifully designed and the outdoor terrace was perfect for relaxing.

A fabulous treat, enjoyed to celebrate a birthday, in a stunning setting with excellent staff and wonderful catering.

Stunning location, beautiful chalets, excellent amenities, great staff especially our ranger Colbert, what a wonderful knowlegable man. Fabulous dining area with superb meals, tho cold in the evening, a real treat at breakfast time being able to watch animals at the river daily.

Our chalet was really gorgeous, beyond comfortable bed and facilities. But we felt that a little maintenance would be good eg the bathroom curtains really need cleaning, and all the curtains need to be hung properly… a minor but one can’t ignore it. The outside shower area is magnificent, but pretty cold for an after dinner shower esp in poor weather which we sadly experienced.

A dream place for couples

Service is outstanding. They care for you during the hole day, paying attention to details. The lodge is gorgeous, the tents very private. Game drivers and trackers are the best!! Ours found the animals always the firsts and then they told to the other cars were the animals were, so an amazing experience. Breakfast very complete and with variety. Rest of the meals also quite good.

Location was excellent. Game rangers and Tracker was very knowledgeable . Game sightings were fantastic

Dinner on day 1 & 3 was in the boma area with other couples . That would of been great if we weren't on our honeymoon. A more intimate dinner would of been appreciated.

Simbavati Hilltop is a true gem in the Timbavati reserve a must stay for any traveller.

-The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to make you comfortable -Food was amazing - the chef would personally come visit us to ensure our dietary needs are met as well as a check to see if his food was tasty -Every morning & evening our guide and tracker would take us out for our daily game drive and they were super. They had immense knowledge and was happy to share the wealth of information with us. They were the true starts of the Simbavati Hilltop

Superb

It was a wonderful stay. The staff super friendly, very attentive, always ready to be helpful. The lodge luxerios but not out of the way. Only 4 guests were booked because of Corona. The game drives with Frank and Evans were very informative. Evans the best tracker I have ever experienced. Even in the dark he can see a small camelon sitting on a branch. This man is incredible. Also Frank with his bush/animal expertise is incredible.These two as a team can only be recommended. Except for Buffel we saw everything. Not one day without cats. Also the management, which changed tgl very attentive. Thanks again to all for the wonderful days. Highly recommended!!!!!

Unforgetable and amazing!

Dear Simbavati Hilltop Team - you are amazing! We had a wonderful time in your lovely lodge. It is impossible beeing closer to real life with the Hippos and Elephants next to you. You can watch them when you are relaxing on the lovely day bed. The meals are amazing and the service is outstanding. Thanks to the whole team, who made our stay unforgetable. A special thanks to your amazing guides Colbert and Derrick - you told us so much about the wildlife and showed us much more than we had expected. Next time we definetly will stay longer!

One of the best

For anyone who is unsure, don’t be! My wife and I went here for our honeymoon and it was literally amazing from start to finish. There is nothing to fault. We saw the entire big 5, staff is amazing, accommodation is amazing, food is amazing, views are amazing! You won’t be disappointed!!
