Lake Cabin: Hot Tub, Fire pit, Patio, Pool table, Ping Pong, Trails, Kayaks
About this cabin rental
Located in Iowa, this attractive cabin for $673 per night is a great option for your next break. Decompress and reignite in nature! Bring the whole family or your special someone to this spacious lake cabin. Enjoy trail systems around the lake and throughout Keomah State Park. Build a fire on the patio, fish in all four seasons, kayak or pedal our pedal pontoon boat . Bring your own or borrow ours. You will be just a few steps from a dock to enter lake. Fall beauty and the anticipation of the exciting winter is before us! Farmer's Almanac predicts a frigid winter with lots of snow for 2023/24! All you winter fun chasers: reserve the cabin, go ice fishing, rent cross country skies, build a snowman and look for mysteries to solve in the forest! Our forest is filled with song birds, woodpeckers, scurrying creatures, deer, raccoons, and a bunch of wood chuck families! We also have shovels if you'd like to clear some snow and ice skate or play ice hockey on the ice! Wedding, anniversary and other event venues are housed in the state park adjoining this village or host your event right here on our acre plus yard! The Space This is an original fishing cabin that has been added on to and had some renovations over the years. You will love the cabin feel with original wood floors, ceilings and walls in most of home. The game and family room is vaulted with exposed beams with a large window receiving light and warmth from sunrise over the adjoining farm field until about noon. Each bedroom on the south side of the home gets their turn of the mid day and afternoon restful warmth of the sun. For the sunset, hang out on the patio, dock, kayaks or in the king sized bedroom with windows on most of two walls. Varied colors and textures daily as the sun sets behind the tree lined hills over the lake. If you are gathering with a bustling crowd, you can easily spread out for varied pastimes in two large indoor living areas inside, a screened in brick patio with hot tub and sitting area that walks out to either the one acre plus yard or adjoining outdoor patio, all with great views of the lake. Traveling solo or with a small group? Soak in the warm sunshine on the bed of your choice, take several walks through the forest and marsh areas at various times of the day to enjoy the animals and plants who are especially active early in the morning, throughout the day and both at dusk and after the sun has set. Many travel here simply to come into close contact with one of our rare albino deer. We have seen the albino buck and doe on several occasions, especially at dusk. We've been pretty excited to see them foraging on the yard of the cabin several times, not together and primarily the female. Birds are a plenty here during all seasons from the gold finch, blue bird, several woodpeckers, and a great variety of song birds to at least two bald eagles and the great blue heron. The children will be in frog heaven when they catch a bullfrog or any of the small species of frogs hopping here and there will provide a sporting chase! Back to the inside: if you love to cook and bake, have fun doing this together or at least with others nearby with the open concept floor plan, great island and incredible built ins for serving buffet style! We love entertaining here, both inside and out! While we're talking food, be sure to picnic outside, if its your thing and there are options close by or pack and take it to one of the many picnic areas or benches along the trails. Its also fun to sit on the dock for coffee in the morning with a good book, especially if you bring a camp chair with you. There are incredible natural benches around the lake for this same purpose!!! Delightful!!!! You like to fish? So do others here - all year round! Once it freezes, there are tents on the lake immediately. Perhaps, if you have not yet done this (We have not.), you might walk on over to one of the tents and see what its all about. If your shy, just take a picture from afar, but either way, take a walk on the ice, bring ice skates, sleds for the lodge hill or either cross country skis or snow shoes for a bit of winter adventure. You will love any time of year out here! Winter berries and a variety of seeds provide nourishment for all kinds of feathered friends and furry mammals, including deer, chipmunks, raccoons, wood chucks, and be sure to listen for the coyotes and owls once the sun goes down as you gather around the fire. Lest I forget, the summer brings some fun boats with lights on the lake... kind of fun to watch from the dock or you might try it yourself. The Town Nearby: Oskaloosa is the closest town with some delicious eateries with great atmospheres, three golf courses, several frisbee golf courses, fun boutiques, great vintage, antique and thrift options and both an award winning square, restaurant, and greenhouse filled with both activities for planting together and fun for the whole family, especially during their autumn acres. During the summer months, stay out at the lake the entire time, or come into Oskaloosa on Thursday nights for their band on the square, performing since the 1800's! Bring a chair, blanket or sit on a park bench and join all the families at dusk as the band plays and often sings for you, with games for the children, dancing for anyone who might like to, shout outs to all the birthdays, anniversaries or any other celebratory event a guest enters on the clipboard for the evening. There's food trucks (I think), a fun coffee shop with great shakes and bucket ice cream right there, and the night closes with Lawrence Welk's "Goodnight" song as all the children are given bubbles to run around and blow! It is literally idealic!!!! Many walk on over to Taso's or MiRanchito after the fun or home to enjoy a fire with their friends or loved ones to keep on enjoying time together. The lake is so delightful, we do not go this event every week, but if you're just here for a week in the summer, I'd recommend stopping at the square on a Thursday night. With an active and talented chamber, historical society, arts and conservation board, Mahaska County is a gem for natural learning and adventure. … and the following repeated events take place at a variety of times throughout the year: -Thursday night band concerts at the square, 8:00pm, June to mid August, since 1864! -Laura Days at Nelson Pioneer Farm, Tuesdays - Fridays in July. The Cabin was the perfect place for family to gather in celebration of my mom’s 80th birthday. Lots of comfortable spaces for small groups or all nine of us to spend time in, playing games, enjoying good food, hiking around the pretty lake, and relaxing. Thank you for sharing it with us!

We loved the location, near the lake, quiet neighborhood, nature surrounding us. The teenage kids were completely entertained with the pool table, hot tub, fishing, bicycles and pedal boat. There were games to play and plenty of private spaces for girls to hide away and giggle!! The kitchen was well stocked to prepare meals. I appreciated that!!! We all commented on how clean the house was and how it felt like home. Our hosts were very attentive, checking in more than once if we needed anything. Before the kids families left it was voted we would like to come back next year!! I should have started with that compliment!!!!!

Five siblings and spouses stayed at The Cabin for the weekend for our hometown 175th celebration in Fremont. The location and accommodations were wonderful. We had plenty of room to relax and unwind together and all the amenities of home. It was so much more relaxing and fun than a motel would have been for our stay. Our hosts, Missy and her husband were so helpful and friendly with any questions we had and made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin homey and was tastefully decorated and the patio was beautiful. Highly recommend The Cabin and will keep this location on our preferred places to stay close to our hometown!

Our family is a very large & busy family, coming from MN & MO. We wanted our daughters & their families to join us for a relaxing holiday weekend. This house & property did not disappoint actually we fell in love! Our first impression was such a clean, warm & unique house. As the weekend went on we found ourselves so enjoying every nook & cranny, lots of opportunity to sit, relax, gaze over the beautiful yard w/partial lake view listening to the geese, enjoying the quaint patio, watching red squirrels play in massive trees, hummingbirds drinking from beautiful flowers, watching the children hooping & hollering riding bikes & playing in the sprinkler. Enjoyed the living room while relaxing & reading while listening to music from Alexa, watching family members play games & laugh around the big dining room table. The family room was so cozy too, snuggled in comfy chairs & throws watching a movie, gazing out to the lawn watching the children play yard games, watching some competitive games of pool or taking a nap. The kitchen was big enough for several of us to cook, having everything we needed to bake & make large meals, we didnt eat out one time! The screened in porch was nice with table & chairs & a big hot tub. I, grandma had so much fun beating the kids at ping pong, fishing with them on the dock or paddling the pontoon. Everyone had their own bedroom with nice beds. We had such fun! Our hosts were fantastic, very accomodating, kind & helpful. We felt spoiled and special!

A great location and property for hosting our annual reunion of 9 retired high school friends. Enjoyed the game room, patio, and hot tub plus the local golf and food scene. Hosts were great to work with and responded quickly to any questions we had.

The place was a great find and even better place to stay.
The owners were extremely friendly and were available if anything went wrong.
We will definitely rent again if we are looking to come back to the area in the future.
Everything at the house was accessible and the owners made you feel at home at their place.
The Hot Tub, Paddle Pontoon and Kayaks were all a hit.
The fishing was great on the lake as well. The kids had no issue catching both small and large pan fish right off of the fishing pier inside the state park. (3ish Minute Dive from the rental)
Thank you for the amazing time!

We all enjoyed the house and the huge yard. Hot tub was a big hit for the kids. If you planning on taking a hike, i would suggest walking to the lake and going away from the houses. Theres a nicely groomed trail thru the trees.
Great relaxing time. Oskaloosa has a pretty square with some fun alleys to explore. Thanks so much.

We had such a wonderful time, from fishing, to playing pool and sitting in the hot tub! There’s so many different areas to hangout and have quality family time. The cabin is fully equipped with everything you will need! We’ve stayed at many vacation homes through the years and this was definitely one of our favorites!

We stayed here to celebrate a birthday and it was great. Lots of room to spread out, play games and enjoy the kayaks and paddle pontoon. We came from different parts of the US and Missy was accommodating to some potentially arriving early. Gracious owners and a special space.

The property allows for everyone to be together in different locations inside and outside and space from each other when needed. The yard was perfect for our outside games.

The Cabin is lovely and very comfortable. The paddle pontoon was great fun. We enjoyed going for walks, bird watching, metal detecting, playing games and just being with family. My husband’s health is very fragile and by the time we got home he had pneumonia, but we would rent this cabin again if it weren’t for that.

We all had a wonderful time at this fun gem in the middle of Iowa. The lake is beautiful and having access to a private dock allowed for fishing and fun on the lake in the paddle pontoon boat. The kids also loved the hot tub, pool table and big yard to play soccer in.

We were seeking a place that would satisfy multiple age ranges and with the lake, the jacuzzi, pool table, toys, and plenty of space to spread out, this was a great spot.
Due to severe thunderstorms, we were stuck inside for half of our visit, but we were still able to have a great time.
Highly recommended!

We stayed here for a get together with family. There were plenty of activities for the kids between boating & swimming in the lake, hiking, hot tub, pool table, movies, etc. It was a perfect place for the whole family. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Family getaway
We were looking for a 4 bedroom property near a lake with activities for our 9 and 12 year old boys. This met and exceeded our requirements. We had plenty of room to spread out, lots of options for activities, and plenty of peace and quiet. The boy spent time on the water and skating around the neighborhood. My mother-in-law relaxed in the various rooms in the house. My brother-in-law was able to call in to some Zoom meetings for work between fishing jaunts. The guys put in the fishing boat at both Keomah Lake and Red Rock Lake. Everything was super easy, and it was no trouble to hop into town for dinner when we didn’t feel like cooking. I would love to live in a place like this.

Lake house
House was well stocked with everything we needed and more. Just a short walk to the dock and a very nice pontoon paddle boat. The whole family enjoyed the large hot tub. There was quite a heat wave when we arrived and the air conditioning took a day to catch up. Chris offered to bring fans, but there were already plenty in the house. You should know there are no heating and cooling vents in the bedrooms, so everyone has to sleep with the doors open. That wasn’t a problem for us, but with some traveling crews it could be. It was a nice place for our family to get together and enjoy a relaxing week.

The word my fellow travelers used most for describing the cabin when we got there and explored the number of rooms was "cozy". There are a number of couches and seating areas and nooks and niches in and around the place that invite you to plop down and browse one of the many books sitting on the shelves. But you may not want to just read a book because there is so much else to do and see. Play a round of boccia in the vast backyard shaded by large trees. Or go canoeing, or hike around the lake. Or listen to the sounds of the woods from the veranda, or ... In short, if you get bored here it's your problem.

Wonderful experience during a once in a lifetime event. The house was so comfortable, it was like being at home away from home. Responses from property owners/managers (?) was exceptional from the time of making reservations until checking out.
