The best hotel I have ever stayed. There’s such a nice and calm environment. The staff is the best. I always come to this hotel and it feels like coming home.
NOTHING!!

The best place to stay in Mwanza, perfectly located on the shore of Lake Victoria. The staff was very helpful and friendly, my room was wonderful and comfortable with open view to the lake, and the pool is nice too.
Breakfast is not quite reaching the level of all the other amenities. There's limited choice, and it's always a bit sad to get tinned, sugary "fruit juice" in places where fresh fruit is abundant and has great flavour.

We loved our quiet the room on the lake but very close to town. The views were really beautiful. We also really enjoyed the mashed potatoes.
We didn’t like the way that the sheets smelled but other than that, no complaints.

Really nice hotel right on the lake with a good breakfast buffet. The views were lovely and the staff were so friendly!
Poor lighting in the room, about 15-20 min walk into the main town.
5.0
The location, food and hospitality of the staff.
The quality of the rooms were disappointing. The beds on the boat were not comfortable, the shower was clogged up, and the mosquito mesh were torn at places at the windows.

The decor was very cute and appropriate. It was always clean even the public restrooms. It is right on the lake and had beautiful views. It also was close to the center of town so you could walk to markets, shops and restaurants. If you didn’t want to walk there was boda bodas or taxis right outside that were very reasonable.
My room was fabulous on the African Queen.
The staff were the best. Always gave you a big warm smile and if you take the time to talk to them, they remember you and will go out of their way to show their appreciation and make sure you are ok and have everything you need. They are the standard of Great Customer Service.
The food was delicious.
Very safe with security always around. If you haven’t already guessed, I absolutely loved it.
I hope they renovate the first floor of the African Queen to make it handicap accessible.

+ very beautiful place, right on the lake, pictures don’t even do justice to it
+ very well maintained and clean (bedrooms, gardens, swimming pool is immaculate)
+ the manager at the reception was the most helpful guy; Kenya Airways had cancelled some of my flights and as a result I arrived at Mwanza without my luggage, he offered for me to call with his phone and to speak in Swahili with the company’s employees. The personnel in general was so so sweet (especially Philomena!)
+ reception desk open 24/24, 7/7 which is very convenient
+ nice cocktails !! And lots of food options
+ kittens around !!! Big plus if you ask me 😁
+ Safety box, hangers, hair dryer, shampoo & shower gel, towel, fridge, television… very convenient
+ big beds (width and length), appropriate for tall/big people
Suggestions:
* a brochure that compiles a map of the hotel complex, along with the schedules/times, a map of the extended area with the banks, the supermarkets, etc. and the activities available around (with phone number, how to book and price) + AN INDICATION OF HOW MUCH IN% of total price a reasonable tip is
* mosquitoes, mosquitoes… we can’t do anything about it but maybe some citronella candles or another natural repellent scent on the restaurant tables at night could help repeal them
* If you are Belgian, maybe pass on the fries 😝 we are used to them being well cooked!!
* Breakfast was ok but adding more sweet options would be amazing. Also please please, PLAIN yoghurt 🙏🏻
these are honestly details, we are globally very satisfied about our stay!
- the hotel is opened to the general public, so people who don’t stay at the hotel can come eat at the restaurant, which is very nice BUT they don’t have the capacity to attend to everyone, and as a result we waited 1h15 (!!!) for a pizza (which dough wasn’t cooked but that I think is just the way they do it here), sometimes 35min just to get water… even though we are the hotel guests, but outside visitors are served first.
- On the evenings some bar next door is gusting parties. We honestly didn’t mind and you can’t really hear it if you sleep with ear buds like we did, but we thought it could bother some people sensitive to noise at night :) that being said, it seems like the parties take place at the end of the week only, and they stop the music around 1:30am (so it is not all night long)
- Mosquito nets in the bathroom and around the beds had holes in them, therefore they weren’t super effective
- We were the last bedroom away from the restaurant, facing the lake. Many employees were passing by and the rooms don’t have shallow veils. Therefore it is either you close the actual curtains when you are in your room during the day but then you stay in the dark, either you let them open and employees see you naked 🫢 or taking a nap, etc.

The location was very good with lovely views of the lake. Hotel facilities were very good and the staff were very helpful too. Nothing was too much trouble. Meals were good as well.
There was nothing I could criticise.

Hotel Tilapia is situated on the side of Lake Victoria with lovely views. We had our own balcony and plenty of space. The bed was comfortable with mosquito nets.
The place is well maintained and the pool is clean.
The staff were lovely, the food good (and in huge portions) and you can eat looking over the lake on the bar level or the garden level. It’s a great place to watch birds and is right by the private boat ferry to saa nane park.
we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to travellers in Mwanza.
