Located in Lake of Egypt, this charming cabin for $137 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. Serenity at the Lake is our quaint lakeside cabin, perfect for a Couples Getaway, a Family Vacation, a Fisherman's Retreat, Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour, SIU Carbondale Family Weekend, Tunnel Hill State Trail, Mountain Bike Trails, Wedding Venue(s), Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Weekend and so much more! This cabin is situated directly on the lake in a quiet "no wake" cove just minutes from the ski area and three local Marinas. Features include: Main living area with 2 bedrooms, sofa bed, 1 full bath, galley kitchen, family room with dining area, fire pit, and covered deck overlooking the beautiful majestic lake. In addition to the main living area, we also offer a separate entertainment area, with its own private outdoor entrance. This separate entertainment area features a dining table, serving bar, mini fridge, 3 twin beds and one trundle (sleeps 4 in this area) and 1/4 bath. This area is perfect for teens or family fun and is easily accessible from the lake and dock area. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the nearby sun deck and the amazing lakeside views. Lake of Egypt is great for fishing, grab your pole and fish right off the dock. The dock area has a nice swimming platform and two kayaks. Whether you bring your own boat or rent one from one of the local marinas, there is plenty of room on the side of the dock to tie it up. If you are traveling with a boat, you may launch and park trailers at any one of the three local marinas. Mack's Lake of Egypt Marina is a short distance form our cabin. Boats, Paddle Boards and Kayaks may also be rented at Mack's. Not only are we located on the beautiful Lake of Egypt, we are also just minutes from I-57 with lots to do all around Southern Illinois including Zip Line Tours, Canopy Tours, Hiking, Antique Shopping and many great local restaurants. We are close to the Shawnee Hills Wine Trails, Ferne Cliffe State Park, Tunnel Hill State Trails, Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour, Giant City State Park and Lodge, SIUC and the Shawnee National Forrest. ***MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY is 8 and you must be 25 or older to rent this property.*** ***Due to STEEP TERRAIN, this property is NOT recommended for small children, elderly or individuals with mobility concerns**** ***Parking is limited to a MAXIMUM of 3 Vehicles**** However, If additional parking is required, please let us know and we can direct you to additional off-site parking. ***WIFI Available*** We enjoy our SMOKE FREE and PET FREE cabin on the lake and know you will too. There was an error in the schedule and two separate parties were booked for the same day. We weren’t notified of this error until less than 2 days before we were suppose to arrive. We had this property booked for 6 months prior and had paid appropriately. We were told we couldn’t stay and we proceeded to look for another place. 5+ hours pass and we were notified that it was corrected and we could stay. Luckily we were able to cancel the 2nd place we had just booked. The manager/owner is hard to reach..I had tried to get in contact with him several months prior to our stay so it was very frustrating to have this issue so close to when we were scheduled to arrive.
The house had a weird musty smell but otherwise appeared clean. One of the beds was broken down stairs.
The owner/manager drove by to check on us on and had said he would come by again later, which we didn’t feel was really necessary after the first check in.
We enjoyed the lake and all the winery locations close by. We also visited an alpaca farm and had fun there.
This location is certainly not for people who have mobility issues, which is stated in the description.

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Loved the water toys including kayaks especially. Our family took time to chill on the beautiful deck, and play games. True serenity. However internet only allows one person on at a time. We had a student taking an online class and the internet was totally unsatisfactory. Also unable to watch television.

We’ve stayed in many rentals on the lake, and this was by far the dirtiest one we’ve stayed in. The toilets were not clean. The fridge was filthy and had leftover food from other renters. The stove had grease splatter on it, and the appliances all needed to be wiped down. The forks and spoons were dirty. The ceiling fans had layers of dust, and there were cobwebs everywhere. The entire place smelled musty, and almost all of the furnishings were old and beat up. Worst of all, we saw mouse droppings everywhere and a couple of traps.
I do have to say the beds, linens and towels were clean and fresh. The living room couches also seemed new.
It's worth noting that the layout of the unit is odd. The downstairs area with the twin beds and the bar cannot be accessed from the main floor. You must go outside and walk down the deck steps. We found the space kind of unusable due to its inconvenience.
Cleanliness aside, the unit’s location is great. The no-wake cove is nice for swimming. We enjoyed the kayaks, lilypads and paddleboard at the dock.
If this unit was cleaned, had the carpet removed and had some modern updates, it'd be much better.

Glen was a great host and so nice to talk with. We loved the Lake House! The view was amazing!!! Beds were comfortable and had all the necessities. We will definitely return. Sad to leave!

This was our second time staying in this house. Last time we came alone-this time we brought the kids. They loved that they had their own separate space downstairs. The house is very cute and cozy and the view from the deck is wonderful. My only suggestion would be that more forks are needed.

We loved the location and esp enjoyed the covered porch overlooking the water. Only a couple of things to improve…needed a thorough cleaning, more silverware esp forks… 4 is not enough, and had some trouble getting out of the driveway because of the steep incline, but we did make it. Glen is a great host and very accommodating! Would def stay again.

Beautiful location with plenty of space. The covered patio is so peaceful and relaxing. Great location on the lake as well. Glen is wonderful to work with and his property is definitely worth a visit! We will be back soon!!

The owner was friendly and the location of the home is amazing. The lake was beautiful. However, the house itself was in need of major repairs and was disgusting. It had obviously not been deep cleaned in a very long time. Thick layers of dust on the fans, stains on the carpet, dirty bathroom floors, cobwebs in corners and ceilings. The biggest concern, however, was visable mold in the air-conditioning units and both smoke detectors were obviously not functioning (no cover or battery). There was standing water under the 3 twin beds in the lower level. The smell of mildew and mold hit you the second you opened the door. It could not even be aired out as there was no screen door. The pictures of the home are deceptive and the description of the home does not say that you cannot access the downstairs from inside the home. You can only get to the downstairs area via outdoor stairs that are rickety and uneven (very dangerous in the dark or rain). The toilet in the basement barely flushed and the "door" was see-thru cardboard material. The lake was gorgeous and the owner was friendly. We are already planning a return trip to the lake, but will never rent this home (or other homes from this owner) again.

My friends and I picked this home for a girl's weekend. We had a blast! The location was great, right on the water and only 10 minutes from grocery/liquor/gas. We tried to order pizza the first night we were there but they could not deliver so don't bank on having food delivered. The Goreville Grocery Store had everything we needed though. We definitely made the best use of the dock and huge porch! The home may not accommodate a family with young children very well because the three beds on the bottom floor are completely separate from the rest of the home so you have to exit the home to get to your room. The downstairs does have a wet bar and a toilet. The home itself was cleaner than anticipated but it could definitely use a deep cleaning or some updates. For a group of girls who were just happy to be away and on the water, it worked fine! It was lacking some supplies like forks, sponges, and shot glasses ;). So, I'd come prepared if there were particular amenities you were hoping to have. Glenn was a good communicator and stopped by to see if we needed anything. We would visit his home again!

This was our 2nd stay & we loved it so much we didn't want to leave. So peaceful & relaxing, but enough water activities to be active & enjoy the lake during the day. Love the splash pad & kayaks! Glen is always welcoming & available to make sure you have a great stay.

Beautiful location
If your looking for a great vacation on the lake this is it. We needed two houses and the great thing is the owner has the house right next door as well. This is a great location. Both houses have covered boat docks and great for swimming. Glen thank you!!!

The house was okay. The cleanliness was lacking. Dirty carpet, refrigerator and shower. The bedrooms upstairs had nice comfortable beds. One of the couches was broken and sunk in when you sat on it. The downstairs room smelled horribly musty. The toilet was in a tiny closet at the end of a bed. One of the beds in the downstairs was broken and could not be used. Needs full size forks and spoons just some baby size silverware in the drawers. The dock and fire pit were beautiful, Could not use the paddle boards as they were out of service. Pictures do not reflect current condition of property. The owner was very friendly.

Weekend Getaway
My husband and I enjoyed a nice, quiet anniversary weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The place was beautiful! Glen, the host was great! The bed was very comfortable… I slept better than I have in months. Clean, cozy, and absolutely earned its name “serenity”! We will definitely be back! ☺️
