Gorgeous character building, staff lovely.
Fire alarm at 01:30, no one’s fault but tricky with a young child.

The staff at The Greyhound were lovely, calling to ask if we wanted dinner with them, and helpful and friendly when we arrived and during breakfast too. The room was spacious with a large comfy bed. Decor was nothing to write home about but it was all fine. Likewise with the breakfast - all perfectly nice without being anything special.
The pub is at the far end of Shap, which makes for a bit of extra walking if you are on the Coast to Coast like we were, or if you are spending any time in the centre of the village for the other pubs, chip shop, Co-Op, etc. It therefore wasn’t amazing value for money - not expensive but not cheap either.

We arrived at the end of a long day and were delighted to find a charming, comfortable inn. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Our room was large, bright and the bathroom was very clean. We enjoyed an excellent dinner and breakfast. I would look forward to returning.
I was only able to stay one night.

Great value. Fantastic breakfast. Very nice hotel, well maintained. Highly recommended.
No negative aspects really. Just slightly on the edge of the village so slightly longer walk than I expected.

Hotel easy to find
Deluxe room was above the bar and the noise from customers at the bar was very loud up to about 11pm.

room was lovely, bed was very comfy! We stayed on a Sunday so we had the roast dinner, it was beautiful! Our hosts were really welcoming and friendly, always made sure we were happy and had what we needed!
only thing I could say was that the menu/breakfast was a little limited due to an issue with their cooker (completely beyond their control, was due to be fixed but not until after our stay). The food we did have was amazing and still plenty of choice at breakfast!

Best sleep for a week here, as bed was very wide and comfortable.
I would have preferred a bath to a shower.

Stunning old building, renovated but still full of charm and character!
A few miles off the M6, it was a perfect stopover on a long drive but would happily have stayed a few more days and explored.
Our family room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable and the breakfast (included in room rate) was spot on with plenty of choice - even for veggies.
Not really a negative but unfortunately on the night we stayed there was a very reduced evening menu running. However the managers suggested all the local alternatives and suggested we get dinner from the local chippy and eat in the cosy bar with a lovely local beer so we were all happy, and it didn’t detract from our stay at all!

The day we left we didn’t have any hot water for a shower

spacious room, clean and warm on a cold night. bar downstairs. Friendly and helpful staff. ample parking at rear.
limited evening menu.
sound insulation from bar poor, noise heard until bar shut.

Location easy to find and check-in was really quick and easy- nice welcome from the staff. Shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. Comfortable bed and bedding.
Room had damp on one wall and a musty smell. Bed was two singles pushed together. Bathroom was comically small and impractical. Breakfast was okay- only one member of staff working and confusion about how/where to order hot food etc.

lovely clean, fresh and welcoming hotel. Staff were friendly and attentive. We had an evening meal, drinks and breakfast. Food and drinks were superb! utterly delicious! Would highly recommend!!
My only complaint would be the room was really hot and smelt like the farm next door, it was really strong, and we couldn’t leave the window open at night because a generator or pump outside the window kicked in every hour through the night… it did keep us awake most of the night. Such a shame because it was so comfortable, clean and everything else was Top Drawer!! It wouldn’t stop me from coming again though. Just not Room 8.
