Petty charges, outdated mattress, all about location
The location is what makes the property worth renting, as long as you are ok with older mattresses, the worst being in the master, which was so bad, two people cannot sleep on it without feeling the mattress springs poke you and the box springs and bed frame shift and shake if you move any of your appendages. The owners did “attempt” to remediate the situation by replacing the cheap metal frame with a “new” metal frame that was slightly better than the previous one, instead of replacing the mattress. The tags on the mattress had been removed, so no telling how old it was. We had to put the mattress and box spring on the floor for a week while we waited for the “new bed frame” that was “going to be so much better”.
The pictures on the listing make it appear that the outdoor deck area where the grill is, is much bigger than it actually is, and the upper rooftop deck is sun exposed all day, so the area just outside the front door is where towels end up being hung, beach bags, shoes stored etc , which, being that it’s across the street from the beach, does lend to some sand and dirt being dragged onto the hard wood floors, which, with a large group, is impossible to keep the floors spotless. Be warned that cleaning apparently does not include sweeping/vacuuming of the floors without an extra fee? Which won’t show up or be discussed until AFTER you have left.
If you intended to charge us at the mid cleaning you should have stated that in your text, how much you were charging, pictures, etc, when you commented on the “excessive” sand. There was never an indication in your text that a monetary value or penalty would be enforced until days after our departure. Also, keep in mind, that the hose provided is down a long flight of stairs. If you check your “cameras” you would see that we all regularly rinsed off our bodies downstairs, but in walking up the stairs, and then taking our shoes off outside, where sand lives, or walking barefoot up the stairs, sand is bound to enter the home and up on the floors. I would think that sweeping the floors, and sweeping up sand, is part of a routine cleaning, and a casualty of living across the street from a beach. It just felt very petty to add this charge after all the other fees and 15k+ expense we paid to stay in your home with no warning or discussion
We took very good care of your home, put up with uncomfortable mattresses for a month, and were upfront with you the whole time we were there. 🥲.

We travel often and always choose home stays over hotels. Our stay at this property in Kailua ranks as #1 at the top of the list. The house is furnished beautifully with a fully stocked kitchen. Access to the bike path and Kailua Beach and Kailua Beach Park is two houses away. Lanikai Beach and the Pillbox is a 10 minute walk. Kailua town center is a1.2 mile walk. The local bus stop, a neighborhood market and Buzz’s are less than a 10 minute walk away. Views from the roof top are stunning. The hosts are charming and were quick to respond if something was needed. We will be back again, and we will book this property if it is available. Thank you, Rudy and Diana for your hospitality. Six first time visitors to Hawaii were “enchanted” with your home, the location, and their experiences. We all cannot wait to return.

To start with the positives, this place was very clean, roomy, well stocked, and the owners were friendly and helpful. The master bathroom shower drain emitted a pretty strong sewer smell everytime we showered regardless of rain/no rain but that wasn’t the big issue. The big issue was that we were told one day after cancellation(w/o penalty) was no longer possible that there was a construction going on right behind the house. For the entire 31 days we were subjected to loud drilling and sawing right outside the giant living room and dining room windows combined with dust & workers smoking which we could always smell. Too add further, there was a major water construction project happening all along the street out front which delayed driving in and out of the property and into town everyday, sometimes by 15-20 min each way. Sure improvements are necessary and unavoidable but as paying guests and not residents we have the choice of not picking places that hinder our vacation. The house construction might end soon but the road construction will continue through the end of 2021. If we had been informed of the full extent of all the constructions, we would not have stayed at this property.

My friends and I stayed two months at Rudy and Diana's Kailua property. We are all professionals who work remotely during the day and the house met all of our needs with its private rooms, desks, and blazing fast internet. We had no problem conducting multiple simultaneous video conferences with the mainland.
The house location is spectacular - 5 mins walking from both Kailua and Lanikai beaches. It also sports a stunning rooftop view of the beach on one side and mountains on the other. All this while still being close enough to town to access some of Kailua’s excellent restaurant, shopping, and water sports options! Snorkels, body boards, beach chairs and towels were all included as well. Our stay was extremely comfortable: there is A/C throughout the house, lots of light, comfy beds, grill, and a fully stocked kitchen. There is also an exterior shower and hose where you can rinse yourself off after a day at the beach.
Rudy and Diana went far out of their way to give us an exceptional experience! They were always communicative, responsive and had a positive attitude to our (many) requests for things like blankets, propane, mail access, etc.
We really felt like our time there was living in paradise with such a nice home and such amazing hosts!

Wonderful getaway
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this property. The home is beautifully maintained, there are breathtaking ocean views from the rooftop, and it is a very short stroll to amazing beaches. Diana and Rudy ensured everything was just right for our arrival and we appreciated their extra effort to make sure our daughters felt welcomed. They truly attended to every detail to make our time there comfortable and memorable.

Overall we had a great month long stay! The house itself is beautiful, has an amazing deck, and is located just a short walk away from Kailua beach.
Unfortunately our group (working professionals in our early 30s) did not get along well with the host Diane. Based on prior reviews, it seems that it’s typically families that rent the property. From the beginning I could sense a suspicion of our group of some sort. There was a persistent feeling of hovering and monitoring by our hosts: frequent stops at the property and continuous text messages. I have rented on other platforms for the past 10 years; I have never, ever encountered hosts who orbit as much as these two did.
Things fell apart when the mid-stay cleaning happened. Apparently sand is completely unacceptable within the house (we did our best, but alas, the house is very close to the beach so some sand snuck in), and remnants of flour on the counter is completely unacceptable (we made cookies the night before). The host then entered the property WITHOUT PERMISSION to take photos of the “mess”. This is 100% unacceptable behavior from ANY rental situation and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable for the remainder of our stay.
Sadly, things did not end well between our group and them. I would not recommend this house to anyone who respects their own privacy.

Hula House had the perfect layout and location for our multi-generational family. The proximity to the beach made it easy for those who wanted to go on "adventures" to head out for the day while the others could still have a beach day. And the property allowed us to "spread out" when necessary, including telecommuting for part of the trip. Loved the big sliding doors- they brought a sense of being outside all the time. The outside shower and shed toys were great perks.

Wonderful Escape & Work Vacation
We had an excellent one month stay for our remote work vacation. The house is beautiful, well-furnished, clean, and in a terrific location being so close to Kailua beach and Lanikai. Diana and Rudy were wonderful hosts. With several us needing to be on Zoom calls during the day, they ensured that we had work stations set up and sufficient high speed internet. They were easy to get a hold of, very quick and responsive to any questions, and incredibly welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful beachy vibe of the home and highly recommend a stay!

Our 3-month stay at Diana and Rudy's home was exceptional. We felt welcomed with aloha from the moment we arrived until our departure, and enjoyed every day at this key location. I'll second another recent reviewer's comment about our stay exceeding our expectations.
You'll note from the timing of our review that we arrived to Oahu in the throes of COVID restrictions (which have loosened since). Even so, we had no problems with food or grocery delivery from nearby Kailua town, and we navigated our quarantine pleasantly within this spacious home with a spectacular view of Kailua Bay from within-- and on top of the roof.
With Kailua Beach Park literally across the street, you simply cannot be closer to a world class beach-- with a second at Lanikai a short distance within the neighborhood. Our 7-year old son had a blast bodyboarding, swimming and bird-watching at the canal. Diana and Rudy have everything you could want on site for extended fun at the beach. The neighborhood is quiet, the neighbors are friendly. People like being here!
The home is immaculate and extremely comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Master bedroom is huge, with king size bed. There is a wall-mounted TV above the jacuzzi tub that our son thought was about the neatest thing in the world. The kitchen was indeed well-stocked, and the grill on the landing just outside of it made for ease of barbecuing (with an awesome view...) throughout our stay. (As but one example of their attention to detail, Diana and Rudy keep an extra filled propane tank on-site, should you need.)
The rooftop warrants one more comment. It is huge, with several chaise lounges. The wall surrounding it was sufficiently high that we never worried about our 7 year old hanging out by himself up there. It was a great spot to do yoga and stretch out after a run, and to chill with drinks in hand (coffee at sunrise over the Pacific; something a little stronger for sunset on the Koolau Mountains).
Diana was attentive and quick to respond whenever we had a question or needed some local insight. Truly a gracious host.
We would stay here again without a second thought, and will strongly recommend to family and friends. Mahalo nui loa, Diana and Rudy!

Our stay here was perfect. Exceeded our expectations actually. Location: First staying in Kailua was a great option for us. It is a small town with a cute little center, amazing beaches and and anything you may need is a 5 minute drive away. It is only 20 minutes from Honolulu (stunning highway ride) , not too far from the north or from the south making Kailua a great spot to visit the island from. The 2 beaches at walking distance are all you can dream of. Turquoise water and white sand beach. The closest one has just enough waves for the kids to have fun in without worrying about strong currents and has a great beach park. The other beach is much calmer wave wise, with possibility of snorkling. Also walking distance you have a stunning hike. Location within Kailua couldnt have been better. The home: very comfortable and spacious home. Tastefully furnished and decorated. Just as shown in the pictures. Beds and bedding are also very comfortable. Very clean. And kitchen is well equiped, we were able to comfortably cook and eat home as often as we wished. The shed was a gem; toys for the kids, beach chairs for the adults, floaters, coolers, snorkles... it had it all! Communication: Diana was very kind, responsive and helpful. We highly recommend.

Loved everything about the stay, from location to accommodations. The house was clean, large and provided everything that a big family needed for a long stay. The view was amazing especially on the rooftop. It was a wonderful experience overall!

Perfect location, Perfect house
This home is in a perfect location to the very pretty and safe Kailua and Lanikai beaches. The living area and the roof-top enjoyed stunning views over to Kailua beach.
The home was exceptionally clean and airy, and had plenty of space for our family of 5. Large screened windows and doors could be opened to allow cool sea breezes without the bugs.
The spacious kitchen was fully stocked with all amenities, which made eating in very enjoyable.
Property was very secure and included ample parking.
Our stay at this property was certainly a highlight of our trip and we could have stayed longer as it was so relaxing and pleasant with everything we needed.
Thank you Diana for your superb hospitality.

Great location Great Property
The house was just as advertised. Great view from rooftop deck, great location with family friendly beach right down the road (just a 3 minute walk down the street and through the park). Plenty of parking, walking distance to small market, Buzz’s restaurant and the pillbox hike. Great communication with owner who gave us a referral for a masseuse to come onsite. Beach chairs and towels provided. Several stores including Target, Foodland and Whole Foods are an easy 5 minute drive. The neighborhood is quiet at night so if you are going to party late night this is not the place for you. There is a lot of construction going on during the day in the neighborhood, but nothing that impeded the enjoyment of the property. We had a great stay and I highly recommend this property to others.

Perfectly located and immaculately clean!
There were 7 of us in the house and all LOVED it. We had more than enough room and comfort. The rooftop deck is the icing on the cake with its 360 degrees of gorgeous views.
The location doesn't get any better than this unless you are wanting to be in the heart of Waikiki.
Hubby and I loved having the peace and serenity; Our daughter and son-in-law appreciated being able to easily drive into Waikiki for a date night, Our girls (4,9 and 10) loved having the park and beach practically out our door. And we all were surprised how easy it was to get from the house to all the attractions we wanted to explore.
Thank you Diana for allowing us to use your house, contributing to our awesome family vacation!

Great home with a very short walk to Kailua Beach
We had such a great time staying at Diana's house that we didn't want to go home. The house had all of the things we needed. Most importantly it was about three houses away from Kailua Beach Park and the water is less than a block from there. We were also able to walk to Lanikai Beach in about 10 min. We will definitely save this house for our next trip back to Hawaii.

Great location, great hosts
The hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. The washing machine had broken just prior to our arrival but they let us use their washer which was a big deal considering we have two small kids. They also were very flexible with the check out times and always available to answer questions. Plus the house is great and in the perfect location right next to the beach. Thank you Diana!

Fabulous location, very comfortable house
Three generations of our family spent a wonderful 2 weeks here. This house is in a great location, just 2 minutes' walk to our favorite beach. We really appreciated the sand chairs, boogie boards and sand toys that Diana provides.
The house was spacious, well-equipped, and clean. Diana was a wonderful, responsive host, quick to answer any questions we had before and during our stay.
