The owners were very helpful and friendly. Visiting Hotell Aina was like a visit to my grandmother, very tastefully and well-decorated rooms in old style. Good and tasty North Swedish breakfast.

The hotel seems a bit run down and odd at first sight, but actually it all works and is clean and comfortable. It’s obviously not in downtown Sundsvall, but Sundsvall can be reached easily from a bus which can be caught from a stop 200m down the road. There is lots of parking at the hotel. It’s an old wooden building in a leafy area. The breakfast was fine - nothing special. Good coffee. The bed was comfortable. We were in the ‘bridal room’, which was a very good size with a sofa.
The personal interactions with staff were minimal. A bit more of a personal welcome would have been welcome.

Good stop on the way north. Good breakfast, comfy bed and good size room.
On the side of main road and road works on the road, so made it tough to walk the dog.

The proprietor or manager welcomed me to the hotel. She seemed genuinely friendly and was helpful and informative. In the morning the hotel provided a selection of cheese, ham, and other toppings for bread or crispbread, together with juice and coffee. I didn't ask for a cooked breakfast and do not know whether one is provided. Breakfast is served from 07:00.
The building is an old country house in the Swedish style, made of wood and decorated with fretwork. It would look a lot more appealing with a fresh coat of paint. The immediate surroundings of the house are not attractive. The property backs onto the main railway line between Sundsvall and Stockholm, while the front is a few metres from the old arterial road between the two cities, a road that is now much less busy than a few years ago, thanks to the new motorway that has replaced it further to the west. When I was there the road was under extensive repair, with heavy vehicles operating until quite late. The interior of the hotel is charming, with considerable attention given to cleanliness and quirky decorations, though it could certainly do with renovation. The (long and narrow) room was surprisingly quiet except for a continuous hum of central heating or air conditioning. The bed was an old-fashioned metal frame that was much more comfortable than it looked.
