About this house rental
Year round Home with boat landing, 4 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 13) Our home is a 4 bedroom 2 bath turn key home located on Heart Lake in northern Minnesota, just 5 minutes away from the headwaters of the Mississippi River. This majestic home sits on 2 acres of land with 200 ft of private lake shore that will provide the perfect environment to unwind and enjoy your vacation. Our home has high cathedral ceilings in the living room, kitchen and dinning area with many windows to provide a great view of the lake and surrounding outdoors. This is a private and quiet 2 acre property, secluded lake with great bass, northern pike, crappie and sunny fishing (you can catch keepers right off the dock). Take in the beautiful sunsets serenaded by the loons at dusk; watch the deer feed in the yard mornings and evenings. Listen to the birds sing in the morning and the frogs croaking at dusk. There are plenty of indoor activities too: high speed internet, streaming TV, movies, board games, puzzles, coloring books, children's toys, crayons, cards, cribbage, chess. poker, backgammon, scrabble, Yahtzee , Monopoly, etc., and a keyboard to play and sing around (with music books too). After the daily activities sit around a crackling fire burning in the large stone fire pit overlooking the lake and Cook burgers and hot dogs on the grill. Or grill right out the back door in the firepit area. (don't forget the marshmallows). Pitch a tent and experience sleeping with nature or just take a blanket to lay on the lawn or enjoy a lazy hammock and gaze at the stars. This place is about relaxing while being as active as you want to be. Play horseshoes, croquet, badminton, corn hole, ring toss, darts or volleyball ( some games supplied). Hike or pick wild raspberries. Enjoy water sports like jet skiing, water skiing, boating or fishing. Take the paddle boat or out one of the 3 kayak's for a ride ( both provided). Take the kids to Itasca State Park for a bike ride. Go golfing at nearby golf courses, horseback riding, four-wheeling or just take a hike in the woods on one of the many trails around the property. Come see the beautiful fall colors and cozy up to a nice fire by the back deck or overlooking the lake. There is a private boat landing that you can access with snowmobiles and 4 wheelers to ice fish, or bring in your portable fish homes. You can bring an Ice home down too, but we do not plow the lake, but we do keep the access to the lake open. There are 30 amp hookups to plug in at the garage, but no fresh water or septic hookup in the winter months.

We've enjoyed this property for years. Lots of room for family to stay and hang out. A variety of things to do, swimming, we brought kayaks, boating, campfires, BBQ, games, we always bring extras. Close to Itasca, Park Rapids and even Bemidji.

This was one of the best equipped VRBOs we have stayed in — so many things furnished that we usually have to pack. Pat and Elizabeth were so easy to communicate with. We enjoyed the stay so much. Location very close to Lake Itasca State Park which was a plus since ‘walking across the Mississippi’ has been on my bucket list.

Pat and Elizabeth’s home was perfect for our stay. We had three families (6 adults and 5 kids ranging from 2 to 11.) There was plenty of space to sleep, cook and play inside and out. Beds were comfortable and all the amenities we needed were there. The bonfire space was awesome and view property beautiful. We didn’t end up swimming as the lake was covered in lillypads, but did get in some fishing and kayaking.
It was a 15 minute drive to Itasca State Park, including the Mississippi headwaters and the beach. Close enough to go in the morning, come back to the house for lunches and kiddo naps, and head back again in the afternoon.
Just to comment I think their pictures don’t do the place justice - it was much nicer than the photos. Some of the furniture is new (couch in the living room) and the room with bunk beds is now two beds (queens I think?)
If we come back to the area we would definitely stay again!

This definitely was a secluded location. The lakeshore and water toys were great. My grandkids had a blast. Lots of family things to do not only at the cabin but also at Itasca State Park. I do have some feedback. If I was going to change anything, the spiral staircase was not meant for children. Also i would add something on the website page that the closest grocery store is 26 miles away. Overall the cabin was great and all outdoor activities were fun.

Beautiful property, lots of space, plenty of activities, starry nights, loon songs galore, peace and quiet. The land was gorgeous, the lake was so serene, the house was spacious and well laid out- very comfortable for our family.
The only things we would suggest is some general repair: replace couch, fix closet tracks, reinforce the docks. The site also mentioned 11am check out, as did our confirmation email, but we were told after check in we had to be out by 10 am. Minor inconvenience overall, just need to update info. The owner was very accessible by email/text though so we appreciated that communication. Perfect stay for our family!

This property was absolutely perfect for our family of 12! Spaciousness both inside and outside. Plenty of sleeping accommodations for a dozen people. Huge kitchen/dining area and roomy living room. It was stocked with everything you need from kitchen to bathroom to bedroom.
The yard is fantastically large and we played volleyball! Badminton... Frisbee... Crafts on the yard... Relaxing on the deck... Fishing off the dock! SO MUCH to do!! Although the swimmimg area was not too large, the Grandkids had a blast snorkeling and looking for fish.
We have been staying at VRBO properties for 9 years and Pat and Elizabeth's Heart Lake place is tied for our #1 spot. We can't thank them enough for trusting us with their home. Thank you!

This was a terrific spot for our grown children and us to get away together in August. We fished, swam, read, cooked, played cards, and took naps. Each room lends itself to efficiency: well-equipped kitchen, big bathrooms, good mattresses, great deck, and big dining table. The fire pit was sublime. Thank you so very much to our hosts.

Fabulous Property
We booked the property for my wife, kids, & grandkids so we could take them to the Headwaters of the Mississippi. There were 7 adults and 4 grandkids and the property was perfect. Room to play and roam outside, large table for gathering and playing cards games, and enough rooms for quiet time. The Headwaters were just minutes from the property, which was great to travel back and forth. The property was stocked with everything we needed to prepare meals both inside and outside. Plenty of games & toys for the grandkids to keep them occupied. An added bonus was having a paddle boat and kayaks to enjoy the lake. We also rented the pontoon which ran great and allowed some further exploring. There isn't a beach per se, however there is a ladder in to the water that allowed us all to swim and cool off on the warm days. The property owners were very responsive each time I reached out prior to our stay. Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our stay very much!

Pat and Elizabeth's home on Heart Lake is just wonderful. We had a great time fishing, and the weather was almost perfect. The home is roomy and comfortable. It has pretty much everything that you could want in the kitchen for meal prep, and very nice beds and bedding. Our children joined us for a couple days, (with our new grand baby), and also had a wonderful time. Pat was very accommodating to my questions when we first arrived, and the home was ready and waiting for our arrival. Items for smores were in the kitchen for our use when we arrived, as well.
Thank you, Pat and Elizabeth, for the use of your lovely home on Heart Lake. We hope to return again.

Property was well set up for families with kids. Our kids loved going out in kayaks, having bon fires and s’mores, and heading to the head waters of the Mississippi River. The kitchen was one of the best stocked we’ve ever rented for food prep, and there was plenty of space for two full families.

Great place to make memories.
This property is wonderful! There was not a time with nothing to do. Plenty of board games and toys. Sleds for sledding and was able to ice fish and have a fire in the outside fire pit. The house had everything we could have needed. We are planning to go back in the summer. The only thing unappealing was the asian beatles, but we just swept them up and it was better. I would recommend this place. We had a wonderful time!

Fantastic for a getaway weekend with the family. We enjoyed the amble secluded space and yard games with kids. The lake had great fishing for some quick ‘dad outings’ (northern pike, perch and sunnies). The fire pit in the backyard wound down our quiet evenings. The owners were incredibly responsive to inquiries and helpful suggestions. Highly recommend!

Very nice place
First of all Jackie and I had great communication beforehand and during our stay. It was unfortunate that the lake was so low that we couldn’t use the pontoon and the paddle boat didn’t have a rudder. But we made great use of the aluminum boat (2 at a time) and the kayaks. The house itself is absolutely wonderful. We had 9+1 (for just a day). We did jockey around for suitable beds for all (futon isn’t good for two adults). Also this home is at the end of a 3 mile dirt road which is slow going so be aware and watchful (especially after a rain).
The setting of the house is amazing. Very quiet and beautiful. The deck was a great place to congregate. The cabin has pretty much everything you need. We purchased most of our groceries in advance and made one trip to Park Rapids which is a good 35-40 minutes away.
All in all it was a great family gathering place.

This property is located back in the woods on a great little lake so you are not bothered by other people. We had 6 adults and 3 kids and everyone had a great time!!

Wonderful Family property
This was our first family vacation with our grown children and spouses in 10 years. Everything was perfect with plenty of outdoor games and spaces to enjoy. The kids loved swimming and fishing from the dock and pontoon. Super close to Itasca State Park and a fun mini- golf course for the kids. We had all the dishes and cooking items needed for big breakfasts, plenty of coffee and eating spaces for the 11 of us. Our 2 dogs loved the lake and trails near the house. We gave our son and his wife the master suite and it was perfect including the bunk area for their 3 kids. We did bring a queen air bed for our 6’4” son-in-law and it fit great in the futon room! We will definitely be returning next year!

This home was perfect for our first family weekend gathering up north! The home is stocked with everything and then some of what you need for cooking and playing and sleeping. We had a couple of miscommunications with owner. I failed to let my handicap needs be known, so I struggled a bit with the outdoor steps into the house. (but managed with some help). Definately rent the pontoon...our adult kids enjoyed taking their kids out fishing! We were here for just a weekend and wished we would have planned longer
