About this apartment rental

Our apartment is located in the wonderful Piazza Aldrovandi. It is the perfect solution for living and discovering Bologna away from conventional tourism, in the most authentic way.
The familiar history of the owners permeates every corner of this apartment with several pieces of original antique furniture and paintings dating back to Renaissance or Baroque periods such as the two large canvases between the main windows of the living room and the two portraits which reveals the influence of some Flemish painter. Over the fireplace you will enjoy a splendid terracotta tondo by the school of Della Robbia with its typical tinted enamel glazes. At the sides two wooden candleholders give a touch of Roman Baroque.
The delicate ceramic framework of the fireplace gives visual force at its sides to a couple of wonderful pieces of furniture: a table console dating back to 1700 and a chest of drawers by early 1800. In the same living room you will enjoy also other important antique pieces of furniture as another chest of drawers, a perfectly preserved Renaissance chest, a slant-front desk whose panel, when closed, conceals a network of cubbies and drawers used for organizing paperwork, a round table with six chairs, various armchairs in front of the fireplace. Two canvases in the Jackson Pollock style, of the 1960s create a sort of contrast between different cultural epochs. In the living room there is no more present the Steinbeck piano shown in the photos of this advertisement.
Into the "studio" room you can rest on an original Wassily’s chair (1925) by the German designer and architect Marcel Breuer. The design reflects the principles of the Bauhaus school where Breuer worked in his early years. This masterpiece was the first designed piece of furniture to incorporate the leather with tubular steel. There is also an original desk as well as a bed manufactured in the late 1950s by Gavina Group. After the War years, Dino Gavina picked up the license for many design items and he got to know the owners of the apartment. The flat has so a wide living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, one bedroom with a double bed and a studio furnished with desk and two single beds. The flat is so able to accommodate up to 5 people. Mind that the total price in this website does not include the local tourist tax (amount depends by the period of the year, the number in party, the number of day (the tourist tax is applied only on the first five days). Regular receipt will be released upon payment on arrival. The apartment is located in the historic center of Bologna, in a lively area where nighttime activity, especially during warmer months and around student gatherings, can occasionally occur.

We had the most wonderful stay We had the most wonderful stay in Bologna, the apartment is incredibly beautiful and very Italian in the most elegant way possible. My teen kids who never comment on accommodation, (unless it is a hotel), were truly taken by how beautiful the apartment is. It is very otherworldly, you feel like you are transported to a more sophisticated time from the past, with all the modern conveniences. Carlotta and Paolo are amazing hosts, Carlotta warmly greeted us and showed us around the apartment and kindly gave us great recommendations for restaurants. We found the apartment to be centrally located, a short walk to Piazza Maggiore, restaurants, markets and many of the sights and museums. There is a wonderful cafe across the road from the apartment which is always busy and great for people watching. In the late afternoon over summer the street below the apartment is blocked off, tables and chairs appear along the street ready for aperitvio and late evening meals. People watching out the windows of the apartment from above, soaking up the summer vibes of the city was a wonderful way to end our busy days. We had an incredible stay in Bologna, I highly recommend this accommodation in this part of the city.

It is a very beautiful, tastefully decorated and spacious appartment. It is situated in a lively part of the centre. Not in the middle, but closeby. In the street they have streetfood foodstands. Very nice Bologna is a vivid place and the appartment is a nice hideout. Only possible downside is the missing of airconditioning since the temperatures rise. It was very warm outside and despite the vans that results in a warm building. It would lead to a 9,5 instead of a 8,7 I would give now

Check-in was smooth, Carlotta stayed a little later due to a delayed train arrival. This apt is in a superb location, beautifully appointed with great amenities. We loved walking across the street to enjoy drinks and food, easy access to the city center and walking under the porticoes. The kitchen area and dinnerware were sufficient, and the several fans to help cool the apt were appreciated. Because it’s near a college, the noise level of lively college life can be a tad loud into the wee hours of the night. We made due and actually enjoyed the liveliness, however take the noise level into consideration if its bothersome. Our family would most definitely return to this location and enjoy Bologna.

The good: It is indeed a spacious and nice apartment with a lot of antiques to admire, and very well located. The bad: BEWARE: The listing mentions parking available but this is not the case, there is no parking available for visitors, nor ZTL permits. Considering temporary permits cost 6 per day, and parking is a little fortune overnight (45 inside ztl about 10m walk, 25 at the train station about 20m walk) it will cost you much more than you expect to pay and also walk. The floor was also dirty with a LOT of white hair, so improving the cleaning would be appreciated (you can’t see it because of the beautiful flooring, but if you put your feet on the floor or have a toddler with you, you will quickly notice it).
