This was such a fantastic experience! Everything was great. The room, the onsen, the food, the service, everything!
It's a bit pricey but it's as expected for a luxury ryokan. Plus it's worth it! I wish I could stay for an entire week!

- Beautiful, peaceful and private location in the mountains near Kyoto including a lovely zen style garden.
- Very spacious and luxurious room that felt like an apartment, elegantly furnished in traditional Japanese style with an onsen on a private balcony.
- We enjoyed using the rotenburo (outdoor onsen) in a lovely location in the woods. It is definitely worth booking for a private session. My partner also enjoyed a massage at the spa.
- Excellent traditional Japanese food, very good quality and beautifully presented in a private dining room.
- Very good service from the staff, both in responding to our requests before we arrived and during our stay.
- The staff suggested that we look out for fireflies in the gardens. We were fortunate enough to see a magical display from our balcony in the evening!
It would have been nice if there were places to walk in the forests surrounding the hotel.

Each meal was delicious and elegant. The onsen was by far the best one of our 2 week trip. The room was spacious and staff were incredibly accommodating, going out of there way to congratulate us on our engagement. They even gave us a framed photo to commemorate our engagement! Our stay here was certainly the highlight of our journey!
I truly can't think of anything.

Our entire stay was beautiful from beginning to end. My partner and I travelled across Japan for around two weeks, and this might have been our favourite place to stay. The location, the staff, the room and the meals were exceptional. My favourite part were the facilities and the kindness of the staff. I have never felt so welcome as a customer and as a guest! Every course of our evening meal was visually stunning and delicious!

This was an exceptional stay.
I've always had the dream to stay at a ryokan with my own private onsen attached.
The Suisen has blown all my expectations out the water.
The Ryokan is incredibly beautiful and the staff is wonderful and helps wherever they can.
You get your own separate dining room in the restaurant and are served Japanese food of the highest quality. I stayed two nights and got served Kaiseki the first night and Sukiyaki the second. Breakfast was traditionally Japanese both mornings.
My room was spotless and beautiful. Free drinks were provided, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
Having a private wooden onsen on the balcony was wonderful and I enjoyed both evenings, relaxing in the onsen while sipping on Nihonshu and enjoying the beautiful garden below.
There is also a private onsen outdoors, which can be booked for a fee for a certain amount of time and also gender separated onsen, that can be used by everyone, located on the ground floor. Free milk is provided outside the onsen and you also have access to free ice cream and hot drinks at any point in the lobby.
You are provided with a Yukata on arrival, which you can wear inside your room, to dinner and while walking around the ryokan.
The location is in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful nature of Kyoto prefecture.
The staff contacts you before arrival and asks you, when you want to be picked up from Kameoka station via their shuttle service. I would suggest picking an early timeslot, so you are able to spend as much time at the Suisen as you can.
I took a long walk on my second day around the area and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the area.
If you are looking to escape the hectic life of the Japanese cities or want to wind down after several weeks of sightseeing, look no further than the Suisen.
