Lake Front Log Home, Amazing Mountain Views, Private Fishing and Canoeing
About this house rental
Nestled in Colorado, this lovely house for £511 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. Our custom log home on a lake, has unsurpassed mountain vistas, private fishing and canoeing, great hiking access, and is the perfect blend of privacy and convenience: less than an hour to Denver or major ski areas, but in a small mountain community. We built our home to rejoice in nature and celebrate our love of the mountains. Marshall successfully climbed Mt Everest, and all of the 7 Summits, so each room is filled with photos and treasures from each region. Gourmet kitchen and well appointed throughout. Elevation 10,400 ft. THE SPACE Dark skies, on privately stocked lake, no AC required, and hiking right out the front door with access to the Continental divide. Paddle Across the Lake, Enjoy Private Fishing, or Just Soak In the View Private catch and release, fly or lure only, fishing right out the back door on Lake Quivera, as well as our empty lot just to the north. Please only fish from our private property. No state fishing license needed. A canoe is also provided with your rental for use on Lake Quivera only. Please always wear life jackets, as the water is very cold. Outdoor and Neighborhood Activities Walk to Silver Lake, hike to St. Mary’s lake at the foot of the glacier, or enjoying hiking, snowshoeing, or backcountry skiing on miles of trails; only a couple of miles from the James Peak Wilderness Area. Find historic mining sites, equipment, and buildings; or search for the unmarked graves on Yankee Hill, the “biggest tree in Colorado” near “Table Rock”; or visit “the mail box” at the “rock house.” Watch for fox, moose, chipmunks, pine marten, deer, coyote, muskrats, squirrels, bear, and a plethora of birds, including humming birds (yes, at over 10,000 feet!). Contact us to arrange a visit to the schoolhouse and museum just a couple of miles from the house in our historic mining district, run by the Alice Historical Society. Home Highlights The Denali great room has vaulted ceilings, custom woodworking, pellet stove, river rock Victorian-style gas fireplace, Brazilian cherry floors, and double 8-foot French doors opening up to a lake view on the deck with customized hand carved animals and railings. Use the gas grill and enjoy your dinner at the comfortable deck table, and turn on the gas fire pit for warmth or roasting marshmallows. The flat screen 3-D TV, with select 3-D movies, is available if you can tear yourself away from the scenery, as well as the photos and native crafts from Alaska and North America. Our kitchen has three Heartland ovens, plus warming drawer and gas cook top, making it easy for you to cook for your family or group. With granite countertops, Brazilian cherry floors, Asko dishwasher, farmhouse sink, and well-stocked cherry cabinets (cookware, dishes, and staples including spices, cooking oils, and baking supplies) and counter seating, the kitchen is the “heart of our home” where everyone will gather. The amazing 5-window turret dining room with custom 6-foot round mesquite table is the perfect place to savor delicious food and camaraderie while soaking up the sunshine and lake and mountain views. A well-appointed and easy to operate pellet stove provides extra warmth and comfort. The Everest loft opens to the great room, with huge windows looking out on the lake – the perfect place to cuddle up with your favorite book or enjoy perusing Marshall’s one-of-a-kind Everest scrapbook and other memorabilia from Nepal, Tibet, and China. A Pack and Play with bassinet in the loft closet for babies and toddlers up to 40 pounds. The main level Aconcagua master suite has vaulted ceilings, a king size bed, romantic gas fireplace, and access to the deck through your own 8-foot French doors. The 5-piece bath includes a deep, 6-foot, jetted tub with in line heater (that I call “the best thing we did” in the house) where you can soak away all of your worries or enjoy a glass of wine with your sweetheart. There’s a large walk-in closet and plenty of dresser drawers for you to make yourself at home. Watch your own flat screen with Dish satellite TV, enjoy keepsakes from Argentina and South America, or just look out at the stars. The lower level Kilimanjaro family room has 9-foot ceilings with 7-foot French doors opening to a cement patio just 30 feet from the lake. The patio has additional seating, or enjoy the lake-side swing. With a large screen TV with surround sound, the kids can enjoy their own get away. Lots of books on a wide range of topics and a selection of movies will keep everyone entertained. Pictures and souvenirs from Tanzania and other African countries will fascinate you. The couch pulls out to a comfortable queen bed (towels and bedding included - stored in the closet in the Elbrus bedroom). The 3 lower level bedrooms all have 9-foot ceilings, large windows, and two have lake views. The Elbrus bedroom has a queen bed with fascinating Russian photos and collectables, as well as antique climbing gear and other items from Europe and the Alps. The corner Vinson bedroom has a queen bed with rare and unique things from Antarctica and the southern-most tip of South America. The Kosi bedroom has a double bed with trundle single bed, perfect for another couple or the kids. Cards, games, and kids books are also provided. The full downstairs bathroom includes a second jetted tub/tiled shower and dual sinks. The laundry/mud room with extra utility sink. (Half bath is upstairs near the Denali great room). Table and chairs (cushions are in the storage box on the deck) provided on the deck, as well another set on the downstairs cement patio, just feet from the lake. Closer to the shore, there's even a swing so you can sit, relax, and enjoy the view. Town and Tourist Sites Make the 20 minute drive to Idaho Springs to visit the Argo Gold Mine, Mill and Museum; Heritage Visitor Center and Museum; Underhill Museum; and charming shops and delightful local restaurants. Head to Georgetown and ride the Loop Historic Railroad, including Santa at Christmas time and other special events. Drive up Mount Evans, the highest paved road in the U.S., to enjoy the view and (probably) see big horn sheep and Colorado’s only mountain goats. Enjoy other Clear Creek County attractions and activities: mine tours, zip lines, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and more!

We chose this house over a few others based on the reviews of the hosts - Marshall and Heather. To say they exceeded expectations would be an understatement. The home is BEAUTIFUL, clean, amazing views, equipped with everything you might need and more…and Marshall and Heather truly went above and beyond for our family’s stay, making sure we were comfortable, safe and well taken care of! I could write an entire book about all of the wonderful things this home has to offer. Thank you for making our snowy cozy cabin dreams come true!! (This was our first time staying at a Vrbo and I think Marshall and Heather have set the bar too high for us moving forward 😆.) We had a most wonderful time. Thank you.

Everything was perfect! The hosts were super responsive and answered all of our questions right away...They should be called "Super Duper" Hosts! The home was exactly as pictured and described. Fully stocked and perfect for our Thanksgiving gathering. Great place for our dog, nice outside, fully fenced run that even had a dog house! The bed was so comfortable and the home very warm and cozy. We made some special memories that will last forever... Thank you for sharing your amazing home!

A gorgeous home on the lake. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Had fun hiking and canoeing. The hosts were very attentive and helpful. Will be back to visit.

Spectacular setting, large house very well laid out for a group, with plenty of room for both gatherings and quiet individual privacy. Very comfortably furnished, with great amenities including canoe and fishing gear, propane fire pit, children’s books, games. Well-equipped kitchen (appliances could use some minor maintenance). We loved sitting on the upper deck overlooking the lake at the end of the day.
We had significant ongoing trouble unlocking the front door, which the owner seems to know about but has not fixed, and a moldy smell in the lower level of the house caused us to sleep with open windows. These issues did not prevent us from having a wonderful stay.

We were very happy with our stay here and could not have felt more at home and comfortable. The house is spotless and we were impressed with how clean everything was.
The hosts replies were immediate and personable. When we were unable to use the coffee grinder they had a new one delivered the same day.
Nearest town of Idaho Springs was charming with great restaurants and shops. There were plenty of hikes and outdoor activites nearby.
Very happy and highly recommend. :)

Wow, the details of location, how to get there, what the house had available for use was wonderful and much appreciated! The house was great, clean, and the views were amazing. Our family had the best time! Host were amazing as well and very responsive! Can’t wait to stay again!

The property was amazing, from the outdoor beauty, lake, deck with gas firepit and patio chairs ... to the inside of the property which was great for our family with adult kids (total of 8 people). Owners were amazingly welcoming, supplied everything we needed and likely more than we expected. Owners were open about getting groceries, supplies, etc. before heading up the beautiful mountain (15 minute drive). Property felt like it was our vacation home - so well done! IF I had to find something to consider, it would be more seating in living room. Well Done !

Staying here in this awesome cabin was a wonderful expiencnce for our family get together. It snowed everyday except one. The home was well maintained and particularly well stocked with all the staples, spices, condiments, soap, etc. The host was very responsive and proactive while we stayed there.
There was plenty to do here inside and outdoors too. There were sleds and plenty of snow, snowshoes, and skis. Indoors there was so many achievements and memorabilia and books to read.
We had such an amazing stay.
We couldn't thank

Heather and Marshal are the perfect hosts! The house was just as described and could not have been better prepared. The drive up the mountain in winter weather can be tricky and not to be attempted without 4WD. Just listen to Heather’s advice and you’ll be fine. Don’t miss the easy hike to the glacier.

We did Thanksgiving at this amazing home with our out of state family.
The hosts were amazing and provided anything we could possibly need. The home was immaculate and such a treat for the entire family. The view from the bedrooms was spectacular onto the frozen lake and mountains.
The fires were cozy, kitchen equipped for a family holiday meal and it had all the entertainment we needed from smart tv, to board games and cards.
I would highly recommend this home for a family retreat or a romantic getaway.

We absolutely loved this house and location and will definitely be returning! The house is in a secluded area of the mountains, far from any of the touristy areas. It overlooks a beautiful mountain lake. We loved fishing from shore or using the canoe that came with the house, as well as paddle boarding throughout the day. The house has beautiful views of the lake and forest. It is well stocked with everything you could possibly need! Also loved sitting around the firepit at night. Highly recommend this property!

We had four couples from Minnesota ride motorcycles to Colorado and stayed at this amazing mountain home. First off the communication from Marshall and Heather, the property owners was excellent from our first intention of renting the property to follow up when we left. They were quick to respond to a couple of questions during our stay also. The house was perfect for four couples. We each had our own room and shared the large baths. The location was breathtaking. I should mention that if you are planning on riding motorcycles to this house it is not a ride up the mountain for beginners or even intermediate riders. There are a handful of switchbacks and some steep grades. The final half mile is a gravel road that was wet for our stay. It is very doable if you are an experienced rider. This location was perfect for attending a concert at Red Rock and day trips to Rocky Mountain National Park and Breckinridge. Our favorite part of the house was the huge round dining room table situated with windows looking out over the small lake and mountains. We have rented several VRBOs over the years and this property was the best stocked home for every day essentials. We received a detailed list of supplies before we arrived and couldn’t believe everything that was included. The home is very unique with the themes of all the rooms of Marshall’s incredible accomplishments. Lastly the pictures online do not do this house and property justice! It is breathtaking! Thank you Marshall & Heather!

This beautiful cabin, fully furnished with everything you could possibly need, felt like home away from home! Communication with the property owner prior to our trip and during our stay was super easy. Marshall went above and beyond with meeting our needs! We enjoyed cooking in the fully furnished kitchen and grilling on the back deck. Canoeing and fishing right out the back door was lots of fun while taking in the breathtaking view. Beds and furniture were very comfortable. During our stay we enjoyed hiking to close by Saint Mary’s Glacier and exploring the nearby towns of Idaho Springs and Georgetown. Easy check-in and check-out. Would definitely recommend!

Marshall and Heather Ulrich's log home is the only place you should rent if you wish for a wonderful mountain getaway! The home beautiful and the views incredible. The kitchen is stocked with every spice you would ever need, coffee and teas and cooking essentials. We love to cook and it was like being in our own kitchen!
The bedrooms were very comfortable and there was plenty of room for us to spread out.
We enjoyed using the grill and the outdoor gas firepit came in handy as the evening were cool.
Being on water was so peaceful and the canoe was a wonderful addition. We tried our hand at fishing using their poles and our reels. The lake was well stocked.
St Mary's Glacier is beautiful and there are roadside waterfalls on the drive up to their place. Two more beautiful waterfalls are within a 20 minute drive west on 70. The area around the cabin is absolutely beautiful to walk. You can find trickling mountain streams and incredible views.
We so enjoyed reading the journal/photo album of Marsh's Everest assent and seeing all the treasures in the various rooms. He also has his book, Running on Empty, there for renters to read.
Last but not least, the hosts were fantastic and extremely accommodating. They were quick to respond to our emails and very kind. We were fortunate to meet Heather and will look forward to staying in their log home whenever we are back in Idaho Springs.
Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We were six adults, some family and some friends, looking for a nice place with great accommodations and close to many options for fun things to do. This home did not disappoint! The home is on a beautiful lake with a variety of spaces in which to relax. It was fun seeing the accomplishments of the owner and reading his book.
The house was well appointed with upgraded appliances and a variety of seating options. I highly recommend this property!

Colorado Vacation 2022
Exceptional accommodations with fantastic views of the mountains. Enjoyed both the fishing in canoes and the hiking of the glacier nearby. Host was nice enough to secure a second canoe for our group of 7. Cabin has everything you need to feel at home and host had a notebook of information about the cabin and local area that was a great help. My oldest son felt like we were in a celebrity’s home as he was very knowledgeable about Marshall’s endurance races!!

Wow!!
Wow is exactly what you’ll say the moment you step into this incredibly well equipped home. The views are really truly impressive. Our family had a blast fishing, hiking and taking in all of the beautiful scenery. From deer to moose - a mother moose a and her calf walked right by us in the driveway!!
We enjoyed meals on the back deck and just took in the perfect sunsets each night.
We’ll certainly be back!!

Paradise
This home is in a place that I can only describe as paradise. The tranquility of a lakefront setting beneath the pine-covered and snow-capped mountains is simply breathtaking. The comfort of this home, featuring ample amenities and and a stunningly well-stocked kitchen, was exceptional. We especially enjoyed walking and fishing the lake and our time relaxing around the firepit on the back deck. The hosts were responsive and helpful without being intrusive. We would definitely stay here again should we return to beautiful Colorado!

Beautiful log cabin filled with amenities. All of the essentials like coffee supplies, pots, pans, wine glasses, etc. Every cooking spice you can imagine, olive oil, etc etc. Follow up communication with the owners to make sure all was well. I don’t think we could have asked for anything better than this property. It was everything we wanted and more for our first trip to Colorado. From the location, views, cleanliness and beautiful decor to having almost everything you need to stay and enjoy the beautiful view. Definitely returning!!! This beautiful home with gorgeous views from every window far exceeded our expectations. The house had top of the line fixtures and accents while maintaining a cabin feel. Marshall and Heather were hands on owners from the moment we arrived making sure that every detail of our vacation was just perfect from internet quality to a snowplowed driveway. The house was well supplied with every kind of amenity that you would need especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. We absolutely loved the holiday decorations that Heather meticulously placed throughout the house which made it feel like a home away from home. With respect to the location of the home, the owners provided snowshoes to hike the glacier that was within walking distance of the home and the whole family enjoyed snow sledding and ice fishing right out back. Last but not least is the amazing story in each room of the home which kept us talking and exploring every room in the house. As an accomplished ultramarathoner and mountain climber, we enjoyed the well chronicled climbs that Marshall completed on each of the highest mountain peaks on each continent. Thank you Marshall and Heather for your hospitality and for allowing us to experience your beautiful home.

We had an amazing Christmas in this beautifully decorated cabin. During our stay, Marshall stopped by to clear snow from the driveway and deck for us. My 4 yr old grandson was in awe that he got to meet the man that climb the “big” mountain. I would highly recommend staying here.

Heather and Marshall's house was wonderful. They decorated the home for Christmas and it made for the most perfect relaxing get away. We spent most of our time relaxing and reading. I finished Marshall's book "Running on Empty" in 3 days. We also went skiing at Copper and Winter Park. Both are a little over an hour away but it didn't feel very far. We enjoyed several Christmas movies in the evening but they had a lot of other kinds of movies to choose from. We'll definitely be back in the summer to enjoy some fishing.
