Wonderful garden with views and thoughtfully placed table and chair sets - ideal for this spell of hot weather. Beds v comfortable, and linen a high quality cotton. Some very agreeable dog walks from the cottage too. Ate out at The Caddyman which was quite near and had an excellent meal there.

It was situated in a great location with lovely views. A very comfortable cottage with some great features and lovely simple decor. Great garden out the back to sit and enjoy a cup of tea while watching the views and wildlife.

The property was cosy, had its original character and charm yet updated modern amenities. the large Garden is absolutely beautiful and has a wonderful view.
Cleaned to a very high standard, it is a beautiful little cottage with all you need for a relaxing, quiet few days away. The kitchen has all you need to cook family meal. The Bathroom is modern and clean.
There is not much to dislike. The only thing that I could say bothered us a little was sharing one toilet in the bathroom between 6 of us. However that is minor and certainly would not stop us from staying again.

We did some self catering which went well. We also visited the pub as recommended and enjoyed it. We liked the fire in the evening but could have used some long matches. Local shop only had short ones.
One of our group is elderly and found the shower a bit scary. Could use some improvements with the shower for those somewhat disabled.

Great location - fabulous little village and pub fantastic
The second bedroom was a little cramped for room but we managed fine.
when I got out of bed I could hear the springs moving in the mattress but really overall it was a comfy night's sleep.

The owners were wonderful! great communication, very helpful and friendly. The cottage was in such a great location local amenities nothing short of fabulous! The cottage was amazing! Such a comfortable stay had by all 5 of us, the master bedroom was unreal! The bed was something else best sleep I have had in my whole life! The kids especially loved the large garden and close play park! Pub just over the square had wonderful food and great atmosphere, the local shop just at the end of the street was fabulous had everything you could have possibly needed! Hub of the village.. The log burning fire was fabulous when the weather wasn't so great. What an amazing stay!!
A tiny cosmetic tweaking and finishing off as a recent damp course has been done on the property would have made the stay even better but it wasn't anything major. Wish the new owners Jenny and Andrew the best of success and we will certainly be recommending the cottage, would definitely return!

everything about this property is Fabulous, it’s our second time staying in the same week in December and it won’t disappoint. the furnishing are in keeping with the cottage as is the decor, but it’s got a great homely feeling and very welcoming. the fabulous dining kitchen is great as we like to get together for meals as a family and comfortably seats the six of us but you could get eight. the garden is enormous and because it’s dog friendly brilliant for the pooches. I have stayed all over the world and in many five star hotels but Violet cottage is my favourite home stay destination.
we always have a weekend away with my hubby, two of our sons and their partners, then the rest of the week for us as a couple with the dogs to chill and relax before the festive season. the location is idyllic as we are from the countryside so we like the slower pace of village life. there is plenty to do and see in the border towns but within an hour you can be in the centre of Edinburgh and all it has to offer.
nothing bad to say

The property was beautifully furnished and comfortable and welcoming. It was in a quiet location.
There was only one toilet so we had to coordinate use of the bathroom at times.

Cottage was excellent 😀
Gorgeous cottage, didn't realise it was so secluded, very small village which was beautiful, could've done with a bit more night life😘

Location was good for exploring the Borders.
Loved the woodburning stove which we used every day to help with the damp. Leaving windows open helped too.
The easy to use controls on the central heating was great.
Lovely big back garden for children to run about in. Plenty of seating if weather is good.
Cottage was damp and musty which caused my asthma to flare up. Fortunately I had antibiotics and steroids with me so we were able to stay.
We were unable to use the beautiful master room because it was damp.
The countertops in the kitchen felt sticky dirty so we were cautious using them. The owners shod consider replacing the wooden tops with something easier to keep clean.
Oven dishes felt sticky too. We washed these before use.
Fridge freezer doesn't work properly. The fridge bit froze some things despite it not keeping things like milk very cold. We didn't use the freezer except to freeze the freezer blocks.
The folder of instructions needs to be replaced and updated and easier to find.
Comfortable chairs at the window beside the back door would make more sense and would be more inviting.
Instructions on what to do with the used linens would have been helpful. We left used towels in the bathroom but weren't sure about stripping the beds.
The TV may also need replacing as often we had no signal message on screen. It was acting like an old TV that needed to heat up.
An extractor in the bathroom would be good if possible.
Needs a little shovel for clearing the ash out of the stove. The stand on the current shovel won't allow it to go right into the stove.
The little rug at the sink in the kitchen is a trip hazard and we had a few near misses. Either remove this or get some stuff to hold the rug in place.

Location was stunning especially the huge back garden. The cottage was lovely, clean and quirky. It was stocked with everything you could possibly need for your stay. The cottage was cozy even on the cooler days towards the beginning of autumn with a very responsive heating system should you need it. Highly recommend a visit.
