The meals served at the lodge were just amazing. The springbok steak, homemade pie and trout were top notch. They were one of the best I have eaten before. The room was tastefully decorated and was spacious enough for two adults.
There was funny smell coming from the closet. I couldn’t tell what it was.

Breakfast was fantastic and the food and menus were the best we’ve had on our many safaris
It was busy over the Easter weekend - would avoid that again - but after the holidays it was much quieter.

This was our second visit to Makweti in 3 years. The location, setting and staff are all fantastic. The lodge nestles into the surroundings beautifully and decorated in an authentic southern african way. There are only 5 rooms which creates an intimate environment and allows you to get to know the other guests. The staff are great and work extremely hard. The food was varied, plentiful and delicious.
The lodge, in places, is looking a bit tired, but is still very comfortable. We booked last minute and had the last available room which was in a lovely location with one deck overlooking the stream and another terrace looking out towards the waterhole. The room itself however was a tad tired in places. The staff work extremely hard and to a schedule which means that there isn't too much flexibility in terms of extending game drives. Although you can't really expect that degree of flexibility at this price. On the whole, very good value for money.

We spent 10 fantastic days here, previous experience of three days safari was not enough. Great food, nice wines, good company, excellent atmosphere, lovely hosts and incredible game drives were amazing. Our guide Roelof was exceptional his knowledge was amazing and did his best to accommodate our needs together with partner Tatum and Neil, Jessica and Joseph made our trip to the Bushveld a holiday to remember. If you love nature are an early riser and like being spoilt this is a trip for you.....

The overall experience at Makweti is fantastic. From the room, the service from all personnel, the food up to the game drives with Neil all where beyond expectation. Neil is a guy with a lot of passion for his work which he easily transferred to us. Thank you again Neil.
We hope to come back once to relive this short holiday again.

Makweti was a dream destination. All the staff were so welcoming and professional, especially Neil.
The game drives were incredible and it was great that Neil was so knowledgeable about the reserve and all the Animals!

Beautiful location, incredible staff. Our guide Roeloff was so passionate and knowledgeable, we loved our time at Makweti. The Chefs were wonderful and accommodating, stunning food.
The bugs in our room and on our bed, but we understand this is the bush and to be expected! A Vacuum round the room would have been great, or slippers in the room so we did not stand on bugs, but nothing else to complain about.

It was just exceptional! Every detail was thought of and the facilities were superb. The decor of all rooms were like a tasteful museum of African art. Food was delicious. The game drives were very successful in showing us the wonders of the Welgevonden Game Reserve, and sundowners were in a beautiful setting in a quiet part of the park. Would not hesitate to book here again.

What an incredible few days we had at Makweti. Beautiful property and an intimate setting. The team at Makweti were great and made us feel so welcome, and the food was delicious. A big thanks to Neil for taking us on the road, it was pleasure spending the time with you. We would definitely recommend a visit to Makweti.

The staff, the food and rooms were great
Having your own pool was great but it could have done with being cleaned out once a day from all the leaves to make it more appealing to use besides just dipping your feet in.

Makweti is a beautiful lodge built on top of a mountain gauge, the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food I must congratulate the chef was top quality. The only thing was the Aircon in the room struggles in a very cold day, takes a while to warm up.
the Aircon needs improvement for cold weather.

Makweti is stunning. The decor is exceptionally tasteful and African; the food is restaurant standard and the staff are so helpful. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to stay in many different Safari lodges but this one has easily been the best so far. The guide, Neil, is superb and individualised the drives to suit the needs of guests whilst passing on his 24 years worth of experience. A truly special place - we will go back.
No wifi in the rooms, but this was being changed the week after we left which will make it even better!

World class service and accommodation. We really liked the traditional thatch roof lodges, but with very modern touches - including white linen and white towels. The housekeeping team were fantastic, with the rooms cleaned almost every time we left them.
The food was exceptional - so unique and diverse across all 4 days that we were there.
Our game ranger, Joseph, was exceptionally knowledgeable and so polite. He made a huge effort to make sure we had the best safari possible.
The view from both the restaurant and the rooms is incredible.

Makweti really exceeded our expectations. It is a beautiful lodge, well run, with a fantastic location and view. The food was excellent, with a great variety and our game ranger, Neil was certainly the best ranger we have ever had. We will certainly return.
Nothing. Everything was great.

Spacious units that are very well spaced out for privacy in a beautiful location.
The floors in the units are exceptionally slippery making them hazardous to walk on.

The personal attention we received from the staff was incredible. We knew all them personally by the time we left. The safari time and exposure to animals was far beyond what I expected, and our guide was completely knowledgeable and in firmp control the entire time.

Our experience at the Makweti Lodge was truly exceptional. When we arrived we figured we'd be lucky if we saw one or two of the big 5, but we were able to do four safaris and had the pleasure of seeing:
1. A lion roar
2. Elephants trumpet and get into a little scuffle
3. A mother Cheetah and her cubs
4. A Cheetah chase a warthog
5. A rhino feeding from his mother (plus dozens of other rhinos)
6. At least fifteen other amazing animals (giraffes, hippos, zebras, leopard) and not just glimpses.
Our guide Ellard was not only incredibly knowledgable but personable and so fun to share our experience with. We're extremely grateful to him, Charlotte, Colin, and the entire wonderful & professional staff.
