Fantastic grounds, which we loved exploring, especially with the dog.
Breakfast was very well provided for - fresh bread and cookies.
Very comfortable and very well provisioned for home cooking.
We had been warned by the owners that the shared toilet was accessible outside from the second room. Given the extremely wet weather, this was a very mild inconvenience.

Hare’s rest was so tranquil and homely, we felt comfortable and relaxed right away. Alli and Glyn were so friendly and accommodating, they went out of their way to ensure we had an excellent stay.
Nothing, it was perfect.

We spent Christmas eve and day at Hare's Rest and Alli went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was memorable. She cooked us two wonderful Christmas meals and called us in the UK before we left to travel to NZ, to discuss what we would eat and gave some great travel tips too. The grounds of the house are wonderful and we had a fabulous time.

All through our 4-night stay, it was clear to us that Alli and Glyn had put a lot of thought into every detail at The Lodge and The Walnut. From the daily replenishments of fruit, homemade bread, jams, yoghurt, milk and eggs, the best muesli, sausages and bacon, and even chocolate(!!)... to bathrobes, toiletries, and a well-stocked supply of games, we honestly couldn't have asked for more.
Our teens loved Alli's home-baked cookies, which she made twice just to indulge them (Thank you, Alli!) The hubby loved Alli's homemade bread so much that he is now suggesting that I take our breadmachine out of storage. (Fat chance of that happening, though... What happens at Alli's, stays at Alli's! 😂)
The grounds are amazing and well-maintained, with lots of greenery and paths to explore. There's room for everyone to do their own thing and just relax. Meg (the dog) is a delight and Max (the cat) is a charmer.
The location is just rural enough to be away from the hustle and bustle, but also central enough to nip into town of you want/need to.
I cannot say enough good things about Hare's Rest, so grab yourself a thesaurus and look up all the synonyms for perfection — because that's exactly what you'll get!

Honestly, this is the best booking I've ever experienced. Comes with access to 8 acres of land, homemade bread & cookies, and fresh eggs. The room is lovely and Allie was really nice to introduce us to her sheep and chicken.

The breakfast foods are provided at your arrival and refreshed as needed. The quality, range and amount are exceptional. Welcoming Afghan biscuits were very nice too. The cottage is very comfortable and cosy. The grounds are spectacular. The view from the cottage is magnificent. All up, one of the nicest places I have stayed.
I was completely satisfied.

Hares Rest exceeded my expectations. It was absolutely perfect. From the drive in through the beautiful native groves and farmland we knew it would be special. Glyn greeted us on arrival, gave us a quick rundown and was so kind as to keep the fire going for us when we went out. The accomodation was so gorgeous and everything had been thought of, so many beautiful touches made it PERFECT. The food provided for breakfast was a treat and so much choice, a wonderful touch with home made bread, muslei and baking by Alli. I wish we had stayed more than the 1 night. But plan on returning again. Location was perfect and close to our family event we were in Taupo for. Hares Rest was so cozy and special I said on arrival, im moving in. Thank you so much
Nothing. Everything was amazing
