We absolutely loved our stay at the Clemens Hotel. Charming, welcoming and right in the heart of things and walkable to museums and sites. We wanted a hotel with authentic flavor and Clemens hit the mark 100%!

We had a wonderful stay and would stay again if in Amsterdam. Lots of charm and heart. The front desk was so helpful and kind and had the hospitality of a more expensive hotel. Really nice spread for a continental Breakfast. We had gluten and dairy intolerances in our group and they had options available for both. You definitely need to be in good shape as the stairs are steep and there is no avoiding them. They did come running to grab our bags when we arrived which was very nice. The stairs did mean that we stopped back less times in the day though. Our triple room was jusssst big enough for three of us but you would want to be very close to the people you are traveling with, the room sizes are that of a standard small bedroom. If you are looking for a clean affordable place to launch off busy travel days from this is the perfect place.

The blonde man who checked me in was really nice - a wonderful man.
The bed was comfortable, and the sheets felt nice and clean.
Basic breakfast that was nice enough. Blueberries are my favourite. The coffee from the machine was splendid.
I didnt mind the stairs.

We chose this hotel because it was walking distance to many things we wanted to see in Amsterdam. A bonus was that a train stop is only a block away so you can easily get anywhere.
We arrived on a red eye flight and got to the hotel before noon. We had hoped to just sit in the lobby and play cards for a couple of hours. However - they offered us brunch and got our room ready within an hour so we got a much needed afternoon nap before our canal tour!
We didn’t realize there would be such a steep stair climb but that is not uncommon in the area. The room had what we needed but don’t expect extra space.
Would stay here again!
They have 2 nice cats. If you have a cat allergy, that could be an issue.

I only stayed for a long weekend, but found the hotel to be quaint, clean & conveniently located. Staff were friendly and answered questions, lobby was large and decorated for Christmas (& had lots of local info), and the included daily breakfast was plentiful. The room itself was a modest size in comparison to US hotels but, nothing out of the ordinary for European standards. There was a booklet with information about the history of the hotel in the room which I thought was a really nice touch. I read the reviews & was knew to expect all of the stairs, so they weren’t bothersome; I was on the second floor with about 60 steps to get to my room.

We liked the location, free coffee all day and the sitting area provided in the main lobby.

Beware the stairs! Other than the extremely steep stairs up to the lobby and then again up to the guest floors, this was a charming hotel with gracious and accommodating staff. Breakfast was delightful, the location was eminently walkable and yet quiet, and we would be very happy to stay here again.

Great location! The breakfast was ok, but the eggs were REALLY runny and we were a bit scared to eat them! The rooms were very small! The employees were lovely- so kind!

Great stay - super staff- thanks much

Charming hotel in historic area. The stairs cannot be overstated!! I honestly would suggest that if you have a checked bag, pick a hotel not in the historic area as they all have very steep stairs. The a/c in the room was spotty at best, BUT the owner was so friendly, charming, and accommodating!!

Very nice stay. Staff was very helpful, especially bringing our luggage up the stairs and to our room. Great recommendations from the staff on where to eat and things to do in the area...

A nice hotel and very helpful staff. Traffic outside is very noisy and the streets are busy until 2am or later. Ear plugs will help you enjoy this well located hotel.

I came on a solo trip after spending 2 nights in a hostel - they let me check in early and the room was so clean! The staff was so friendly and the other people staying were so quiet. I stayed in the single bed and it was SMALL! Coming from someone in NYC, it was small! But it was everything I needed, I couldn’t find something to complain about. Would recommend this to a friend or family member :) also location was great! Lots of great bars, restaurants, Anne Frank house is a block away. You can sit on the balcony for breakfast which is nice and cozy!

There are 37 very steep stairs to climb up to the hotel service desk on the 1st floor.
Not for people who have mobility issues.

The entry required walking up 25+ stairs to the lobby. The staff took bags up and down and were very friendly but the stairs were a challenge. We also had to climb more stairs to our room which was very small. The location was great but the effort up and down and the small room left us disappointed.

Central hotel, near tram stop. In need of modernisation, no lift, very steep stairs leading to reception and bedrooms (not good after doing marathon on Sunday!) Breakfast was simple but nice, really good croissants and scrambled egg, unlimited coffee was great too. Bedroom was really small and the beds were too soft and it was noisy outside. You’d want to like cats if you stay here as the owners have 2 resident cats staying in the hotel. Overall our stay was satisfactory but not really worth the expense.

Very nice place to stay. The staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast in the morning was good. Walking--It was15 minutes to train station, 5 minutes to the palace, and close to lots of shops and restaurants. I would stay here again. It has a lot of steps (no elevator) so expect that prior to checking in.

This property was in a wonderful location, we walked everywhere we wanted to go and found it convenient yo get to and from Centraal station. However, if you have mobility issues this hotel is not right for you as there are very steep stairs. The staff is wonderful and the breakfast and amenities in the lobby are very good. Our room was quite small even for European standards but had everything we needed.

Staff were very helpful and friendly; they went out of their way to make us feel at home. The breakfast is pleasant, and staff also recommended excellent nearby restaurants for dinner. The location is perfect for easy walking to lovely neighborhoods or catching a tram. Be aware there is no elevator, and some rooms and bathrooms are very small with little storage and are a bit dimly lit.

Maz went out of his way once his shift had ended to help me with stay.
All staff are great

Humble staff and very helpful. Good place but could be nicer if there was lift instead of a steep staircase. But the staff helped everyone to pick up and drop bags. Excellent service

Wonderful staff. Beautiful and charming common space. Clean and comfortable room. Historic building means narrow steep stairs and tight space in the rooms but that is part of the charm. Excellent breakfast. Super location.

Clean place, small rooms but fine. Normal breakfast. A bit difficult for elderly people because a it has a lot of stair's.

Great location. Everything was great, including breakfast. Only drawback for some would be the 35 steps to get to the first floor reception. Receptionist did carry my bag up😊

For a small hotel, I didn’t expect much but the staff went above and beyond to make us feel like home by giving us tips around the city and even helping us with our luggage. We loved our stay here!

Wonderful location. Room was small but had the basics and was updated. Few items broken in our room (shower door, light). Stairs are insane and almost vertical but that's typical for this Dutch building. Staff will help with luggage.

This is NOT the Ritz Carleton but you know that. That said the accommodation is very adequate, great location, outstanding breakfast and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. If I go to Amsterdam again on my own - I would not hesitate to stay again.

Possibly one of the worst hotels I have ever been to in my entire life. Having been travelling for business for some 30 years, I did not expect to be paying over 200EUR/night for dated hotel without a lift (US. elevator) and with narrow staircase and poky room. The only possible plus was the staff friendliness. It was far too expensive for what it offered.

My stay at Hotel Clemens Amsterdam was fabulous! Clean, friendly, excellent breakfast, well-priced, centrally located, 24-hr desk, excellent internet, etc.-- all of the things you want in a hotel. I could not be more happy, and I will definitely refer friends and stay there when I'm in Amsterdam.
