Balboa Park Super Luxe Tropical Hideaway minutes to the Zoo, Downtown & Beaches
About this house rental
Located in San Diego, this charming house for R 6,571 per night is a great option for your next vacation. A personal note to my guests. . . I created this tropical hideaway to help me relax and reset. I have recently put my heart into a thoughtful refurbishment of this property, to create an environment that I'm confident will be relaxing for you as well. It’s my sincere wish that you enjoy it as much as I do. Here are some highlights worth note: A pleasing open floor plan that flows beautifully to the outdoor spaces gives a nod to San Diego’s famously mild climate. A fountain and super exotic Kentia palm take center stage through a huge picture window looking out to the courtyard. The living room has an oversize wood-burning fireplace you’ll be tempted to light, even though it’s rarely needed for warmth. A sofa of buttery hand stitched Italian leather, and a silky Minotti Italian rug are sure to be a treat. A pair of the most comfortable Danish leather recliners you'll ever have the pleasure of sinking into, are perfect for TV time. I have some super soft pillows & cozy throws if you choose to hang out on the floor. (the rug’s really that plush!) The room is equipped with the latest in tv technology. A well proportioned deck of sustainably sourced Ipe provides plenty of space to chillax beneath mature stands of Kentia Palm, and Giant Bird of Paradise. Beautiful oversized Ipe loungers and the soothing sound of the courtyard fountain will probably keep you out there for most of your stay. The deck has a great southern exposure for sun bathing. Additional highlights include gleaming hardwood flooring, recessed lighting, central air and heat with Nest climate control, tankless hot water on demand, and dual pane windows for suppression of what little street noise there is. Wifi and wireless sound are provided throughout the home. High efficiency front-loading laundry machines are located in the two car garage. Bed & Bath ... The bedrooms are both equipped with multi function privacy and light filtering shades. Each has a dreamy mattress of medium firmness, and great support. A bladeless Dyson air purifier/fan is provided for those who prefer a little air movement while they sleep. Each room has efficient closet systems, and beautiful floor coverings that are super comfy under foot. Each has a smart tv. The west bedroom has a queen bed and a bath ensuite. The east bedroom features a king bed and French doors leading to a deck, surrounded by lush tropical greenery. There is a fountain that provides soothing sound. The deck is furnished, so it’s a nice place to wake up with a cup of coffee (or a Bloody Mary) and a paper in the morning sun. Few things are more important than comfortable sleep, so my linens and bedding are of very high quality natural fiber. The pillows and comforters are down. As a courtesy, I keep synthetic down-alternative pillows available for those of you with allergies. Each bath features imported tile flooring and shower surrounds, floating vanities, sleek German fittings and beautiful lighting. Please note that neither bath has a tub, sorry soakers. Plush linens and robes are provided to keep you feeling pampered. Cooking and dining ... Please cook while you’re in residence! I love cooking as much as I enjoy eating, so you’ll have my professional grade copper core cookware, forged German cutlery, and all the utensils, tasteful tableware and stemware you’re likely going to need at your disposal. The sleek galley style kitchen opens to the deck with a dining area and grilling station. Fittings include beautiful and efficient cabinetry, Corian counters and high quality appliances. The fridge will dispense filtered water, and ice in your preferred form. The dish machine is whisper quiet. The dual-fuel range cooks quickly and precisely. On the deck is a gas fired grill. A professional grade hood will keep the air smoke free if you lose track of time on the deck and end up carbonizing your entree. You can set the teak table on the deck, or dine inside, depending on your mood and the weather, which is usually perfect for alfresco dining.

This property and its manager is “spot on” for those who want to vacation in the North Park area. You can’t beat the logistics to attractions and convenience to restaurants.

You’ll never want to leave. The accommodations are top notch. The house is stunning. The decks are private and lovely. The beds are amazing as is the bedding. Chip, the property manager is THE BEST. You’ll get a list of places to eat at which is, you know, the most important thing. He is informative, helpful and kind. We enjoyed every second of our stay and will come again and again. Thank you Chip!!!! ♥️

This truly was like staying at a 5 star resort. The photos are spot on but cant reflect the sense of peace and luxury of this bungalow. Our favorite was the outside sitting areas with fountain, lovely plantings and a visit from several hummingbirds. Oh and I also have to mention the amazing water pressure in the shower - perfect!

We booked our stay for Thanksgiving week and the bungalow was a perfect spot. Beautiful yard and we were able to pull together a full thanksgiving dinner in the kitchen. The ping pong and bikes were a nice touch and we had some fun family games and outings. Really loved the easy walk to lots of great restaurants, breweries and shops. Chip was easy to deal with though in the end the trip had a little cloud over it as we received a weird text about 4 days after we checked out about what appeared to be some damage reported by the maids that wasn't there when we left the property. I can only imagine managing a property for rent is incredibly difficult but we never received any additional communication after letting him know it wasn't us so in the end the whole thing feels a little bizarre. Up until that though the property was lovely and we really enjoyed our time there.

Chip’s house was in a great location, very comfortable for 4 adults with a great outdoor area for eating and relaxing. We were able to check in early which was much appreciated. When we arrived there were only 2 bikes instead of 4. Unfortunately 2 had been stolen just before our arrival. Chip was most accommodating and arranged to have 2 more bikes delivered that evening. We really enjoyed biking around the Mission Bay Area, the boardwalk and downtown areas. A great place and a great host! We would definitely stay here again.

The house is very cozy and extremely well appointed with luxurious furnishings, intriguing artwork, a tropical oasis outdoor space, and all the amenities you need for an extended stay. The location has very easy access to basically everything in San Diego, and the neighborhood is full of great shops, restaurants, and cafes. Our host, Chip, was eager to make sure everything was as expected, and beyond.

I stayed with two friends in Chip's rental in North Park for a long weekend. The accommodations are true to the pictures and could not have been more comfortable or relaxing!
Chip told me that every good vacation should have great food with a great shower and bed at the end of the day - and he delivered on all three! He provided several delicious and varied restaurant recommendations (many walkable to the property). The showers are larger than most with amazing water pressure. The beds are very comfortable with much nicer bedding than many rentals. The outside area was such a fun extra feature that really extended the living area of the house.
Chip was very responsive and communicative about any issue that came up. He told us that the bikes weren't available during our stay but worked with us to secure bike rentals. He went above and beyond to make sure everything about our stay was taken care of so we could just focus on having a great time enjoying North Park and San Diego.
This home wasn't just a place to stay but was part of the charm of the trip. We had a great time and would definitely stay with Chip again!!!

My husband and I stayed at this home in September, 2023. This was our first trip to San Diego and we had a very relaxing vacation. The home was in a nice, clean neighborhood, and had everything you could possibly need, and then some! The furniture and bed were very comfortable, great heating/cooling system, well-stocked kitchen, gas grill, plenty of top-quality towels, bathrobes, bedding, beautiful carpet in the living area, etc. We enjoyed relaxing on the deck outside and listening to the fountain. There was plenty of outdoor furniture and large umbrellas to protect us from the sun. Beautiful plants provided plenty of privacy. Everything was very luxurious but also quite comfortable. The house was cute and very, very clean!
The morning of our arrival I received a call from Chip as well as an email with the property address, lock code, and a document with Tips from Chip which were very timely and handy.
The home is close to, and within walking distance of, several great restaurants, stores, and small neighborhood convenience stores. We also walked to Balboa Park and the zoo. However, if you don't handle walking up and down hills very well, the park is a very quick drive or Uber ride away.
I would highly recommend this home for a quiet, comfortable stay in San Diego away from the noise of the downtown area but close enough for a short drive or Uber ride to the waterfront, Old Town, etc.
Thank you so much for opening up your home to us! It was perfect!

My family and I spent a week in September here and had such a great time. Pics were spot on as everything was as pictured with every room furnished in comfy furniture and supplied with every amenity needed. Outside was an amazing patio with tropical plants I would love outside my house but sadly they would hate Montreal's COLD winters. Plenty of driveway space for a car and also in the garage with a bonus of a stackable washer dryer that came in very handy. Location was great as minutes away from Balboa Park and SD Zoo and also walking distance to groceries, pharmacies and restaurants. All in all a fantastic place to stay in such a beautiful city !!!

My sister and I stayed at Chip's home for 4 nights and loved it!! The location made it easy to get around to see the rest of San Diego and the home was spotless. I had to reach Chip once as I was having a problem locking the door and he was easy to reach and responded immediately.
It was obvious that, in spite of this being a rental, no expense was spared in the furnishings and decor - simply beautiful! But our favorite part was sitting outside in the tropical oasis - in the morning with coffee, and in the evenings with a cocktail! Thanks so much Chip - we loved San Diego and your home!!

I was looking for a good home to rent out to stay with my family and this place is just it! The interior is pretty and clean, and the patio deck is just awesome. The home is in a good area, everything is pretty much nearby and dining options are great too. Chip has been in touch during our entire stay and has been pretty prompt and helpful in his directions. Overall, a great place for family and friends to vacation at in SD. Would love to come back someday!

You really do not need to look any further. This home is a beautiful respite. Best sleep I’ve had in a long time. So comfortable, from the beds to the showers to the outdoor patios and living room. The Rawling baseball mitts and baseball were a fun touch on the corner of the fireplace; as I was bringing my 18 year old for his graduation gift and sharing our family growing up in San Diego. There was a lot of baseball involved. Impeccably clean. Peaceful. Beautiful top to bottom. Easy and very quick communication with all of the information I needed. Thank you so very much Chip. Unforgettable vacation.

We were so happy here. The location in North Park was convenient to great restaurants. Chip, the owner responded promptly to any of our questions and gave great recommendations. There were 4 of us visiting from the East coast. House was clean and spacious, outdoor space was awesome (we loved watching the humming birds in the fountain) and the beds were super comfortable. I could go on and on and will hope to stay again on our next visit. Thank you.

This was our second stay at Chip's house and we already booked for next year. His house is very nice and the location is great to walk to local restaurants. Chip's recommendations for local restaurants were right on! We enjoy our experience each time we visit San Diego. We feel fortunate to have Chip's place to stay each time!

Fantastic location for this beautiful home! So close to Balboa park and so much to do! The bikes were in great shape and it was fun to ride around the park. The house has the perfect space for two couples and is beautifully and comfortably appointed. Although the weather did not cooperate for us to enjoy them much, the outdoor spaces are so pretty and private. Chip is a wonderful host and was very communicative throughout our stay. His recommendations were spot on and appreciated. Absolutely would stay here again!

Excellent accommodations in safe, well maintained North Park neighborhood within walking distances of a number of great restaurants and bars and easy drive to downtown San Diego and beaches. House had everything we needed for a 9 day stay. Furnishings and finishes were very high quality. Pictures don’t do the house and patio justice. Owner was very responsive to any inquiries.

I visited with parents and they said it was the best short-term rental we’ve stayed in. Having loyalty status with several hotel brands and traveling frequently for work and leisure, I was also very pleased with the property and the host. House was bigger with more amenities than even the photos/video, with a large living room, a dining area, and kitchen, with 2 bedrooms and suites. I most appreciated that the appliances and furnishings were fantastic and what I’d use in my personal home if I were as thoughtful as the host. My mom wanted to know where the bedding/comforter came from, since it was the best sleep she’s had in a while. Kitchen appliances also very nice (breville, all-clad). We didn’t use the sonos speakers, bikes, or fireplace (with decorative firewood adjacent) but I appreciated those additions. Location is fantastic next to Balboa Park close to a strip of cool restaurants, and communication from the host was fantastic. Great value as well. I would stay here again!

This property was lovely. It was very clean and had many extras: professional level ping-pong table, 4 adult bikes with helmets, every cooking gadget you could need, beautiful, peaceful deck, fluffy towels and plush bedding. It was great having a driveway and garage and not needing to park on the street. Walking distance to restaurants. Chip was very responsive and great to work with. Great stay - will stay here again if in San Diego!

This small two bedroom home was the best property we have stayed in over the past few years. Fine furnishings, well equipped, nothing extra really needed.
The neighborhood is nice, short walk to several good restaurants.

My husband and I attended a business conference in San Diego and were fortunate enough to stay at this spectacular property. It was absolutely beautiful! Even better than it looks online! It was fabulously decorated, cozy, clean and super comfortable. You can't beat the location - great neighborhood, walking distance to great restaurants, etc. Chip, the owner, was terrific! He was very attentive, and checked in with us several times to ensure we had everything we needed. We went to one of the restaurants he recommended - Alexander's - and had one of the best dinners we have had in a very long time! We highly recommend this property and hope to return soon.
