Our stay at Villa Kristina Maria was absolutely amazing ( the ocean view, the wild life and the lush jungle ) Our family of nine couldn’t have picked a better place to stay for our first trip to Costa Rica.. only about 10 min from the town of Uvita made it easy to get groceries and experience all that the area had to offer , zip line , snorkeling, hiking and the beautiful waterfalls and beaches..The locals were amazing and very helpful.. Will definitely return.

This is a beautiful house with a great view. Lots of space. The host has a lot of good information and ideas. When told you may want a flashlight it is good advice to take. The neighborhood does on occasion loose power. Which is out of the hosts control. Good news the water works even when the power does not. Unlike, where we come from. Do also be sure to have 4 wheel drive for the driveway.
We saw many new animals and insects. The pool was a great way to cool off. We would stay again.

Fun location for adventurous family w 4x4. Larger home and space than pictures. Plenty of room to spread out. Feels like the home is built into the trees. Great views and wildlife.

There are so many adventures and activities to do around the Uvita area. Claire and Bud’s place was the perfect house with a the perfect location to enjoy all Uvita has to offer. While there we enjoyed the pool and deck and were able to see lots of wildlife including sloths, monkeys, toucans, and other amazing animals. Would definitely come back and stay here if in the area.

This was my third stay and the other guest second stay on this property. We come back because we love the privacy and all the wildlife. Just some of the wildlife we saw: great curassows, chachalacas, crested guans, toucans, trogans, a tayra, aracacaries, coatis, and the white faced capuchins, slept in the trees next to the villa each night. The view is spectacular and the whole setting so relaxing. The pool is great for cooling down on hot afternoons and also a focus of entertainment for kids. Driving up the road into the area is part of the adventure too and everyone always watches for animals along the way. Both the casita and the villa, where we stayed, are gorgeous. We will be back!

We had a most adventuresome time during our stay. We were visited by a variety of animals and enjoyed the rain that came in the late afternoon/ evenings. Claire & Bud were most gracious and helpful hosts. There was more detail than we could process, but it was all very appreciated. The food recommendations were incredible and we didn't have 1 bad meal while we were here. We loved the authentic meal we had after visiting the waterfall with Marvin. Milady is a wonderful cook. The people, the wildlife and the food, along with all the wonderful views made our time here very memorable.

Claire and Bud were excellent with communication. They made sure we were happy and had everything we needed for our stay. They also asked several times if we had any recommendations to make the stay better.
The Homs is very clean and welcoming. You’ll want to be sure to have a 4x4 vehicle, to make it up and down the mountain. The first drive up may be intimidating to some, as well as the drive down to the house. Don’t worry, it gets easier after the first go round.
There is plenty of space in the home and a very large wrap around deck. The pool is clean, but we didn’t use it much.
The first day there, we saw a sloth in a tree close to the house. If you toss some fresh fruit on the ground, over the railing behind the pool, you’ll get to see Coati’s and other small animals come up for a bite, if you’re quiet. 3 days in a row, we had visits from white face capuchins… that was exciting! One would even come on the deck. There are little geckos all over :) they don’t bother you at all. Cute little things!
The location of the home is perfect! Close to so many amazing beaches!
I would definitely recommend this home to anyone, and we would gladly stay again.

Beautiful home with lovely ocean view. Very nice pool, outdoor space, and decks. Kitchen is very well equipped with all the appliances and cooking supplies you need. The home is very spacious with lots of ceiling fans to keep it cool. Just know that the home is a 10-15 minute drive from the main highway to Uvita. You definitely need 4 wheel drive as the road is not paved, and very steep at times.

Amazing property!!!
We had a great experience at Villa Kristina Maria. The house was exactly as described. It was peaceful and surrounded in wildlife. We had visits daily from toucans and monkeys would come by the property as well. One day, we had 2 separate visits from monkeys. The views from every room were breathtaking with sweeping ocean views. The home was clean and the host was immediately responsive to questions during our stay. The home is large and was perfect for our family of 8. Everyone had their own space. There were games and books available for guests to use. The kitchen is furnished well with everything you need to barbecue, cook and make tropical drinks. We would definitely stay here again with our family. The drive up the property was steep, but we had no issues getting to the property.

We were a family of six. This was our first time in Costa Rica. House is a real gem. You’re basically on the side of a forested mountain. Plus you can look out and see the ocean. Tons of beautiful birds, monkeys, iguanas right outside the door. Close proximity to gorgeous beaches. Claire, the owner, was very helpful before we left and responsive by email when we had questions during the trip.

This home encapsulates Costa Rica
Between the forest up against the hill is this gem of a property with pristinely manicured garden - decks off every bedroom to take in the wildlife that is rampant around the house. We had a sloth in the tree next to the pool! The stunning view of the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful parade of clouds on the horizon was a pleasant surprise. Toucans, macaws, green parrots, three kinds of monkeys, just to name a few. Morpho butterflies every single day floating between us on the deck. Two huge frogs claiming the side of the pool at night. This place is paradise. I will come back here often God willing.
The owners are super kind and accommodating- you need a 4x4 but the road offered additional sightings and amazing greenery. Not a problem. We enjoyed the private beach and club that ‘comes with the house’. Delicious food and we had the entire beach to ourselves - great swimming.
This house has everything you need - view, ambiance, decks everywhere, beautiful pool, stunning garden and all the wildlife right there. You may never want to leave the house.
Pura Vida!!

From the moment you arrive at Villa Kristina Maria you are at ease. The drive up the mountain and down the driveway may have been a bit harry, but the view, jungle sounds, and serenity will immediately put you into Tico Time. We are a family of eight travelers and this was our second time to Costa Rica. We loved every minute of our time at VKM. The views are breath taking. We loved watching the storms move in and out from the comfy rocking chairs on the deck. Our children adored the pool and watching birds and monkeys all while swimming. Our group so enjoyed waking early to watch and hear the jungle come alive. From the howlers to the toucans in the trees, it was an unforgettable experience for us.
The house was very clean and inviting. We found the kitchen to have all we needed to prepare meals. Each bedroom was clean and accommodated our large group easily. We found soaps and shampoos waiting for us which made travel a breeze. One rainy day, the house was a sanctuary for our family and allowed us to play games, nap, and read. It was the perfect downtime while in the jungle.
We found lots to do in the area. Beaches are rocky and the surf rough, but still fun. Our kids loved taking the boogie boards from the house to the beach with us. A mangrove tour in Sierpe is a must as is zip lining the Osa Canopy. Lots to do - or not do - in the Uvita area. We found great souvenir shopping in Dominical - along with a top notch sushi restaurant!
The super market shopping in Uvita was easy. Prices were high and the selection limited. We were glad we did a big trip before we left San Jose. The drive from San Jose was about 4 hours each way. It was not difficult as the roads are in good condition, just slow and long. One lane most of the way made it seem slower than it was.
VKM's owners were friendly, knowledgeable, and always there to answer questions while we were in Costa Rica. I would highly recommend VKM to anyone looking for an oasis in the jungle.

Villa Kristina Maria is absolutely perfect for nature-lovers who really want to get away from it all. Surrounded by the rainforest with all it’s accompanying sights and sounds though just a 10 minute drive back to civilisation (off-road - 4x4 required). From the house we saw Howler Monkeys, Coatis and many birds such as Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Hummingbirds etc. and even a Laughing Falcon.
We had a couple of issues in the beginning but these were quickly rectified by Claire. Claire really wants you to enjoy your stay. Tell her what you are interested in and she will give you perfect recommendations.
The best day out was the Sierpe River Boat Trip, closely followed by Hacienda Baru but you should definitely have a guide. We saw so many things we would never have seen without a guide.
If you want to stay in a beautiful wooden house surrounded by the rainforest, away from all sounds of civilisation with your own waterfall-fed private pool, then you cannoy do better than Villa Kristina Maria - wonderful!

Wonderful home in a great location !
This home is in a great location, easy access to drive to town or to the beach. The photos do not show how nice this house is. We were a 2 adults with our 3 teenagers staying for nine nights, each of the children were very happy with their own bedroom. We woke up every morning to sounds from the nearby Howler monkeys.... In the mornings we enjoyed sitting at the dining room with a cup of coffee watching small white faced monkeys playing in the trees and toucans flying everywhere. We would take trips to various sights during the day, come back for an afternoon swim in the pool and then watch the amazing sunsets from the deck each evening. At night the frogs started to serenade us and then the cicadas joined in and added to that the sound of the waterfall by the pool was a reminder that we were in the middle of the jungle! This house is perfect and we would love to stay here again. We had plenty of space. Claire was very easy to deal with and very responsive. We were worried about it not having air conditioning but it was not a problem. With windows and doors and screens all around, we could just open up everything which made it pleasantly cool and comfortable. There were plenty of fans if needed, but we did not really need them much. The driveway seemed steep at first but we did get used to it after that!

Wonderful extended family stay late Dec., 2016.
We visited Villa Kristina Maria during a Christmas/New Year’s holiday trip to Costa Rica two years ago. We hosted extended family as a belated anniversary celebration and selected this property after much research. The experience was simply wonderful.
The house had plenty of bedrooms, beds and bathrooms for all eight of us. The house had wood paneling throughout, providing a lodge feel. The VRBO photos are spot on. The kitchen was well equipped for us all and there were plenty of beach towels as well. Communication with the owner via email and a few calls was easy.
The location is upslope from Uvita in a rainforest setting. The drive to the house was well worth the effort. We woke each morning to toucans, monkeys, huge Blue Morpho butterflies, and assorted other creatures as well as stunning views of the blue Pacific from two ocean-facing balconies. Sipping Costa Rican joe completed the experience. While we were well away from traffic and people, we were within easy drives to Manuel Antonio National Park, Marina Ballena National Park, ziplines, waterfalls, numerous restaurants and grocery stores. With all there was to do off site, we were eager to return to the house to refresh in the small pool and drink in the stunning sunsets.
Probably the best thing we can say about our visit to Villa Kristina Maria was that our family members would love to return and relive the experience.

We loved the house and Claire and Bud!
The home was beautiful! We loved the views, the pool and the two-floors of living space. We went during the rainy season and it made it almost all the more magical with persistent low-hanging clouds, verdant canopy and gorgeous breaks of sunshine! We did the ATV tour, visited the beach, and went to the Animal Sanctuary and enjoyed the house and the pool.
Claire and Bud were wonderful to deal with. This was our first trip to Costa Rica, and we had many questions, about the town, driving from the airport, things to do in the area, etc.. Claire was patient taking three calls from us. Everything she told us about Uvita was true-- the water was safe, the people were wonderful and the jungle was spectacular. I would recommend this location to anyone who is up for an adventurous vacation.
Thanks again, Claire and Bud!

A fantastic place in a great area!
Our group of eight (four adults and four teens) loved our stay in Villa Kristina Maria. It's a beautifully maintained, comfortable house with excellent indoor/outdoor living space, amazing views and comfortable beds, showers, towels, etc. You'll have everything you need to cook delicious meals or eat out in many local restaurants, some of which are downright gourmet. There are incredible day trip possibilities that range from watching birds and wildlife from the deck and relaxing in the pool, to hiking the local waterfall trail, to swimming in warm Pacific waters, to zip lining, to boating out to a remote island and snorkeling/diving, etc.! Claire is a great US based host who is very helpful before and during your trip via phone and/or email. She shares great tips and is exceptionally helpful. We plan to return again and heartily recommend this great house to future renters.

Great location, tranquil setting
Up a winding, jungle road, this house sits in a prime location to see the beach below and the jungle surrounding. We woke up to howler monkeys, toucans, butterflies and so many birds! House is nicely stocked with everything you might need for your stay. It is a little scary driving the jungle road the first time as well as the deeply sloped driveway, but after 1 or 2 times, it just becomes a normal part of the day. You will need a 4x4 car for sure. We had a Kia and it was great for us. While you will have an ocean view, it will not be walking distance. So if you are looking for ocean front, feet in the sand, you'll need to stay on the other side of the highway. It is about 12 minutes to drive to the beach.

Home only three days, I am in deep mourning for this beautiful place. This was our family's fifth trip to Costa Rica. We always go somewhere different but that pattern may change after this stay. Claire and Carol's house is beautiful wood, nicely appointed with a deck off every single room. The pool is cute and refreshing and the waterfall that runs into it adds the perfect element. Every morning I had coffee with my toucan friends (I mean it, every morning!), a few times we also had some green parrots and some white faced monkeys. At about 5 o'clock we'd sit on the deck and again watch the "Toucan Monkey show". It was fabulous. We needed more time (we stayed 8 days)! There is a lot to do in the area including Corcovado National Park, Ballena National Park, Isla del Cano, waterfalls (local waterfall is terrific and we saw Howler Monkeys right on the road), and of course the beach club that is part of this rental is terrific because there is parking and it is quiet and the beach has lovely boogie boarding. I can't say enough about what a terrific place this is. For us it was perfect. If it would bother you to be at least 15 minutes from the main road (20 minutes to Uvita itself) or if it would bother you NOT to have neighbors you have to listen to (except for birds and monkeys), then perhaps this isn't the place for you. We had some great meals in Dominical and Ojochal which are not a far drive. This is a great balance of feeling like you are in the middle of the jungle yet very close to civilization. We will be back Claire! Thanks so much

Thanks for sharing your Villa in Uvita
Claire....The two and half months we spent at your Villa, surfing (youngest generation) with Surf Monkey of Dominical, hanging out at your beach club (all three generations), rope swings jumping into mountain pools, waterfall riding, white water rafting, and zip lining above jungle canopy (younger generations) and beach combing (all ages).....went by all too fast. Sampling the gourmet restaurants (Uvita, Opochal) and Beach/Rum Bars (Dominical) had a special attraction for the Senior Members. The Villa's swimming pool outdoor bar and sunning deck got religious attention afternoons and evenings. One of our family's most memorable and enjoyable vacations....Thanks again for sharing. John

Amazing House
The photos do not show how nice this house is. We were a group of five adults that stayed for seven nights and loved every minute of it. We woke up to birds - including a toucan, and howler monkeys. We would wake up and drink coffee on the porch, go into town during the day, swim in the afternoons, and then watch the sunset from the porch each evening. A giant frog would come to the pool at night and lizards during the day. The house geckos were cute and you will see them all over. We would love to stay in this house again, it is perfect. We had more than enough space in Claire's home. She was very easy to deal with and very responsive. We were worried about it not having air conditioning but it was not a big deal, the windows made quite a difference and we were not bothered at all. The driveway is steep but you get used to it!

This house truly was Paradise As Promised! It was everything and more that you see in the photos and read about in the rave reviews. We were an extended family of 5 vacationing in Claire's home away from home, which became our home away from home. Beautiful indoor and outdoor space - comfortable - very nicely furnished with all the amenities you need (small stuff like: plenty of beach towels, dishwashing soap, laundry soap, hand soap, shampoo, etc... items that we have had to purchase in the past at other VRBO properties.). The house was so clean and neat upon arrival that we felt compelled to leave it just as nice the morning we left. Having 2 master bedrooms and the 2 additional bedrooms and bathrooms was very nice for a larger group. Pool and gardens were lovely. Fun to sit on deck and watch the monkeys and toucans in the trees! Heard the Howler Monkeys in the mornings but never got a look. The view is spectacular - over the rainforest tree tops to the ocean. If you are into fitness, a morning walk up the driveway and on the road will really get your heart going! And yes, the road up and the driveway do require a steady driver and a 4 wheel drive - no drinking and driving up this road at night! We would venture out for daytime activities, return home and then out to dinner at night - many great restaurants within 10 - 15 minutes after you got to the main road (driveway averaged about 15 minutes). Having access to Claire's beach club came in handy a couple times - Uvita Beach was close and very nice. Didn't use the beach club facilities though as they seemed to cater to a local, regular clientele. In conclusion, we recommend this property and the owner - Claire was wonderful to work with and gave great directions and instructions for our arrival. Hint: We used a local tour company for some great day trips to the best nature sites: Bahia Adventuras - we highly recommend them - great tours and the best guides! Thanks Claire for letting us enjoy your home and enjoy Pura Vida!

Family Getaway for the Holidays
Villa Kristina Maria was the perfect home for our family/friends to get away for the holidays! It was more beautiful than expected. We had lots of room, never felt crowded with 7 people. Mornings were glorious sitting on the wrap around porch, drinking coffee and being delighted by the toucans, monkeys, parrots and iguanas in the surrounding rain forest. We equally enjoyed the evening sunsets over the ocean from the upper deck. Afternoons were made comfortable with a dip in the pool. We found the driveway to be part of the adventure. Claire, our host provided clear directions on how to get from Uvita to the house, including guidelines on how to navigate the driveway. It only took one run and it was old hat. Claire was a gracious host, albeit from afar, but we knew the caretaker was close if needed. We felt totally safe and secure in the home and thoroughly enjoyed venturing into town and the surrounding areas. We recommend exploring the Whales Tail, Kayaking in the Mangroves, swimming in the local waterfalls, and zip lining with Osa Canopy Tours to name a few. Claire shared lots of ideas on what to do and where to eat and she is friends with the Uvita Information Center and they provided great service and advice. If you are seeking the best of the jungle and ocean, in a tranquil setting and willing to drive 7 minutes up a dirt road to experience it, than VKM is the place to be. BRING binoculars! and sunscreen, and be prepared for dampness. (The ceiling fans gave some relief) There is no air conditioning and we liked it that way, keeping the house open. Pura Vida!
