The food was most definitely a highlight—both dinner and breakfast were exceptional kaiseki-style meals, using local ingredients from the Kanazawa region. The staff were incredibly kind, patient, and helpful all throughout—even despite my limited Japanese! And the onsen was also a wonderful experience; my mother and I were able to have a private onsen/bath experience, since there were few guests. I loved how immersed in nature the ryokan was as well—it felt otherworldly.

It was a truly memorable experience; we will never forget our stay here.
We had been to a ryokan before we had children and we wanted to share the experience with our twelve and fourteen year old.
The staff was exceptional - so welcoming, friendly and caring (my son had quite a few random nose bleeds and they were so helpful and considerate).
The Onsen was a fantastic experience, especially for Westerners. It was so tranquil and relaxing.
The food was beautifully presented and was a feast to behold. We did struggle with some of the tastes and textures! The staff was exceptional
and made us feel very comfortable during dinner and breakfast when it was obvious that we were finding it difficult to eat some of the food!
We loved all the interesting artefacts and spent a good hour wandering around the ryokan and discovering all the nooks and crannies.
The room was fabulous - so traditional and different to what we are used to at home!
Thank you for a fantastic Japanese experience!
We loved it all! Even though the food is a different, if you want a full on Japanese experience, this is the perfect place!

Absolutely lovely attendants, so gentle, considerate and caring. Everything is perfectly clean and fresh. Food is a real adventure like travelling around Japan while sitting at the table.

Amazing Ryokan that's over 200 years old. Staff and service was amazing. We stayed in a traditional Japanese room and cannot fault anything. They even accommodate my small toddler with meals and other items. The food were delicious and the onsen was amazing. The garden is just beautiful and serene.
There's only 1 bus that take you there from Kanazawa station and back and it has limited time table. If you miss the bus, you're only other option is taxi.

our family had a wonderful and relaxing stay here. We got to experience a stellar Ryokan experience with wonderful Japanese hospitality. Meals were delicious and filling and the onsen was lovely. Waking up in the tatami room to the window view of greenery and Sakura was really nice. the staff were also polite, friendly and very caring! kudos to the team
My parents felt the narrow staircase a bit difficult - so just a note for those who find staircases challenging. Otherwise, a lovely 200 year old ryokan

I booked with a half-board booking which included breakfast and dinner. Dinner and breakfast are excellent. The Onsen is good but the open-air part of the onsen is out of order.
The location is convenient and just 20 minutes from Kanazawa city center. The dinner and breakfast is excellent. The hotel is a little pricey but still good experience.

The room was well equipped and had a pleasant light and view, and the public interiors were well furnished. It was very quiet.
There was no real outside onsen, the small semi-outside bath had lots of hair and fluff in it, and the dinner was not ideal with many dishes having a questionable taste even to those who are very used to Japanese food.

Amazing experience, very restful and relaxing properly, superb Japanese food and Onsen. Staff were very friendly, room was exactly as advertised and was a fantastic experience, glad we added this stop to our trip. Short taxi up the hill from the local train station.

Great kaiseki and a wonderful bath. We enjoyed our stay.
We had to take a taxi from Kanazawa station because they did not have a shuttle and the ryokan is about 30 minutes from the station. The staff also seemed to be a little tentative dealing with us because they did not speak English very well. In the end, however, language was not an issue -- we understood them perfectly and had a great time.

Motoyu Ishiya is a slice of the past waiting for you to experience it. The property carried with it the atmosphere of older Japanese times be it the location, the polite formality of the staff or then classic architecture of the Ryokan.
The room experienced had a garden view which in the recent snow had magnificent views.
the dark sulphurous waters of the Ibsen (hot spring) were refreshing and nicely hot
the food was plentiful and delicious.
I liked everything

This is a 200 year old ryokan, I loved my whole stay there, food was glorious too . If you’re looking for quiet, away from a bustling city then this place is perfect. It roughly takes like 30 minutes from Kanazawa station by taxi.
