The Mitre Hotel Brighton

The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, with a BIG, lovely, comfortable bed that made for a really good night’s sleep. I particularly liked the shower room, compact, yes, but clean, modern and well presented. Breakfast was enjoyable, offering a small continental selection alongside a cooked buffet, so there was a nice choice to start the day. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay, and I especially appreciated them kindly looking after my bags while I spent the day in Hastings. It was a really thoughtful and practical gesture that made my day out much easier. Having stayed at The Mitre Hotel before, it was nice to return, and I would happily stay here again. Overall, a comfortable and enjoyable stay in a hotel I know and would be pleased to revisit.

Although breakfast was nice overall, I found the sausages on the first morning a little disappointing, as they were not quite to my taste. There was also some noise (a person screaming at 4 am) on the first night, which disturbed the peace, although I appreciate that this is not necessarily something the hotel could have prevented. My main concern was a smell of urine in the shower room. I could not quite identify where it was coming from, but it may have been connected to the toilet. The shower room itself was clean and modern, so it was a shame that this smell detracted from an otherwise comfortable stay. These were relatively minor issues in the context of my overall experience, but they are worth mentioning as areas that could perhaps be improved.

It was all very good, exceptional value for money. We were at a gig on Saturday night, so we wanted an easy, overnight stay that was near the venue. The location was perfect, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good, with a lot available. The room was a good size, very clean and we were surprised to see a fridge in the wardrobe too. For a one off stay, you can't go wrong.

The only thing that didn't work for us was that the bed & pillows were a bit too soft! So we did both wake up with back & neck ache. But that's probably a completely personal thing. We're used to a very firm mattress & pillow. So I think, if we were to stay again we would bring our own pillow, which would help eliviate that issue for us. But it definitey wouldn't stop us booking again, as everything else was just right :)
