Good location

The hotel put a hold on £100 although I was not planning on eating or drinking in hotel. It took 3 days after checkout to get this refunded. Not acceptable.

Great location. Lovely well appointed room. Attentive service from staff, cozy lounge area for relaxing in. Would highly recommend.

More choice of light bites on the menu.

Our room for one night in this traditional, old-fashioned hotel, had a surprisingly spacious bathroom and efficient shower, very clean, and a nice wide bed. Luckily, we got one of the hotel's private parking spaces for free. Breakfast would have cost the two of us an additional £35 in all, so we chose instead to eat at a nearby café.

We found the staff rather too formal, not naturally cheerful. On arrival, despite having already paid for our accommodation, I was asked to authorise payment of £100 on my credit card for any additional costs. I've not experienced this before and didn't understand why it was necessary. It suggested a lack of trust and it worried me that someone could charge my card without my knowledge. We were also worried about not getting a free hotel parking space, as there are not enough for all the guests, in which case we would have had to park in a nearby public car park, which is free overnight but requires payment from 8 am. The duvet on our bed was much too hot, so we didn't sleep well. Our bedroom overlooked the main street, which might have been quiet in days gone by, but was much too noisy with traffic. Shortly after 5 am on Monday morning, the refuse lorry woke us up emptying large amounts of glass bottles at several locations close by. In the room was a large, open hamper containing various wines and snacks. It looked so welcoming, until we found nestled within it, out of sight, a price list. It was taking up space we could have used ourselves, and it couldn't be closed because of the bottles standing upright in it. This was a really tasteless feature, quite the opposite of hospitality.
