The check in staff was so courteous and helpful even at that late time. Excellent location.

We liked The Bear , it is a traditional town centre hotel with a lot of character . Our room was clean and comfortable , breakfast was good and parking in a town centre location is a bonus . The only slight glitch was that the Bear does not serve food on a Sunday evening , we went as suggested to their sister hotel , The Black Swan , but they were so busy that they could not take any more bookings . We went into a bar in the Square but that was playing loud music so we had to default to the local Wetherspoons , it was ok but we had hoped to have something a bit more special on the first night of our West Country holiday . The moral of this tale is if you are in Devizes on a Sunday evening do not leave it too late to eat in the town. That apart we liked The Bear and both agreed we would be happy to stay there again in what is a nice town .

the room was a really good size and they were very generous with the tea and coffee in the room.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, not much of a view. No lift, so we had a lot of stairs to climb to room 28. We sat outside every nigh and it was warm and quiet. The breakfast was lovely, especially the bacon.

The outside seating area needed a good clean and more ashtrays.

Room very comfortable, cosy and atmospheric. Loved the antique style and visible beams. A great large room with a sofa, would have been nice for a longer stay. Modern bathroom a nice touch too.

The room overlooked the main square which wouldn't normally be a bad thing but during Saturday night club kicking out time it filled with a lot of drunks. A big fight broke out which security guards and eventually police had to break up. Not the hotels fault of course but definitely meant there was a good 30mins in the middle night where it was impossible to sleep! (Worth noting it was also the hottest weekend of the year so we had windows wide open before it all kicked off!)

Our room was not as advertised or described on booking.com. It had mould in bathroom an extractor fan full of dust. A cold tap in sink that dribbled water out Heating in room not working. Felt very much like we had been put into The servant quarters !!!

The hotel was comfortable and warm. Our room was clean and well equipped. The housekeeping was excellent. All the meals (breakfast and dinner) were excellent. Service was exemplary. The staff were extremely friendly and able to meet all our requests. They were working very hard.

We liked everything. There was nothing that we didn't like. It was a hotel which was offering the best of service to its customers. We were aware of course that the industry does suffer from a difficulty in recruiting staff.

The whole experience of The Bear was great, will definitely go back in the future. The facilities, staff and accommodation were excellent.

The building itself is beautiful with lots of history. Our room was surprisingly spacious, comfy and exceptionally clean. The bathroom also.

Although our beds were comfy, they were very squeaky. Some of the furniture downstairs looked a little tired. Otherwise I can't fault anything.

Every member of staff we spoke with was very friendly. They sounded genuinely interested to hear what our plans were for the day and asked if we managed to do everything we set out to do the next time we saw them. Every morning the breakfast was fantastic, we ate in the restaurant on one evening and the food was lovely then as well. It made for a great base to explore the surrounding area and would recommend The Bear to anyone who was heading to Wiltshire. :)
