First time to San Juan Island! It is so beautiful. The home was very clean and comfortable. Everything we needed except coffee. It would be nice to have for first morning to enjoy the outside decks. It was a little off the beaten path but not knowing the island we weren’t sure if it’s location to everything. Still a great stay. The owners take very good care of the property.

We had a wonderful week at Kanaka Bay Cottage with our 20-something kids. It's a great launching spot to explore the islands...down a winding road, quiet and private. Clean, good location, nicely appointed. Only drawback - the water view is pretty small and from the second floor (stated in listing). Overall we recommend this house!

I’m tempted to tell the world that this vacation rental is a horrid shack and infested with gremlins, just so that we never have trouble booking the house ourselves! In reality, this charming home is just perfect! Large, clean, well-thought out. We loved that the multiple porches allowed us to find or avoid the sun, depending on our moods. We can’t wait to go back and stay longer!

Great house with well-stocked kitchen, comfortable rooms and nice back yard for game playing. The location was great, but a little far down a dirt road, other than that, perfect weekend getaway!

Great house to stay at with family. Private lush backyard, great for running around and sitting on deck in the sunshine. Fully stocked kitchen with olive oil and spices, every utensil you could need.
Perfect space for family with two bedrooms with en suites, and then an alcove with full bed, nearby where my daughter slept. The only thing was no window coverings in alcove and only light filtering shades in bedrooms, so if you’re used to blackout shades, you or your children might be awake at the crack of dawn. :-D
Ideal location- 15 mins from Friday harbor, 15 mins from Lime kiln, where we attended a wedding, and maybe 20 mins to roche harbor.

Very clean. Every item you might need is there for you. Super comfortable bed and the bathroom situation is perfect for the sleeping arrangements. If you are looking to sleep in late this may not be the best place. The windows in the bedrooms lack any coverings. I really think the owner should possibly think about providing some blinds. Minor complaint. We used the kitchen for all of our meals and it is well put together. BTW fantastic towels. Quit and with lost of wildlife. Enjoyed the nightly visits with the foxes. Enjoyed our stay and would do so again if we visit this area another time.

Very nice property in a good location. About 10-15 min drive from ferry. Place was clean and had all needed amenities. The only thing that bothered me were that the cleaning people were there waiting for us to leave at 10am… I wish they would give like a 10 minute window just so you don’t feel rushed out even when leaving on time. That is a small critique, overall this place was wonderful and I would stay again.

The kitchen is well stocked, all furnishings in very good if not excellent condition. The sunsets were spectacular (early November) from both the upper and lower deck. The lower deck is perfect for drinking coffee or wine and watching the birds and the stars. We left feeling very relaxed.
Concerns/Feedback:
We were disappointed that the fireplace is not available for guest use, that wasn't clear in the listing (as it was only mentioned in a photo caption but not the description).
It would be great to have a little more light filtering on the bedroom windows. The Queen bedroom gets very bright not having three of the windows covered at all.
The TV in the queen bedroom didn't seem to be connected to the Dish Network. I would have preferred Smart TVs all around rather than sort through what is/isn't available on Satellite cable.

Relaxing get away
The home was comfortable for our small family. We enjoyed spending time in back yard playing yard games and just enjoying the beautiful weather. It was a longer drive to Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor than we anticipated. That was fine with us because kept us away from the crowds. Fun roads to ride dirt bike or road bike along. Our water heater broke in middle of trip on the weekend and they had it fixed by end of day. Kitchen extremely well stocked and we made most of our meals in the home.

Perfect Getaway
It's not only fun to be on San Juan Island exploring, but it was really great to have such an incredibly comfortable and relaxing home to come back to. The afternoons on the sunny deck were a perfect way to relax even more. Can't wait to come back.

Quiet hideaway
The property was fantastic - clean and spacious and in a very quiet neighborhood. About a 15-20 minute drive from town, so a car is definitely needed. The kitchen and linens were very well stocked. I had seen another review that said it was a short walk to False Bay. We would have loved to walk to the water, but all of the roads seemed to be marked as private roads/driveways so we weren't sure how to get there (and the shrubbery/bushes are so high you can't see over them). We enjoyed kayaking, zip lining, and a whale watching tour while on the island, as well as visits to South Beach and Lime Kiln park.

We arrived after dark, and only got a little confused by the “private road, turn around now” sign. Once we verified our location with gps, we found the house with no trouble.
Everything was exactly as described. The kitchen was very well equipped, and the place was spotless. Our bed was very comfortable.
The couple who slept on the low bed in the extra space said their bed was soft with a too firm foundation, but they endured.(might be best for children, not adults.)
We enjoyed many bunny sightings, but sadly, no foxes.
We wished had been an iron and ironing board.
We also felt the $200 cleaning fee was excessive for the amount of cleaning that was expected by us on check out.
Overall, it was well located, and very well equipped spacious and comfortable.

A beautiful “beach house”, close enough to the water to hear the waves hitting the shore. A secluded location with an abundance of wildlife (eg. Rabbits, Foxes, deer, etc...). Great place to relax. House was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed. Lots of books and games. TVs in each bedroom with DirectTV. DSL was adequate, even for streaming media if you bring a device or two, but don’t expect lightning speeds. One word of warning, we have AT&T wireless and were roaming on Canadian network. Be prepared to pay int’l rates to use cellular, depending on your provider. With that said, we would not hesitate to rent this beautiful property again. My son and I enjoyed a 3 hour kayak tour, discounted through this rental, and our family spent a few days enjoying the San Juan County Fair. Thank you for sharing your home with our family!

We found the house and amenities (linens, dishware, etc.) to be in very good condition and the management company was super communicative and responsive.
