Macdonald Alveston Manor Hotel & Spa

Our standard king size room had absolutely everything you could need, even down to two easy chairs (unlike so many places that just have one). The bed was one of the most comfortable ones we have ever experienced and the room was dark and quiet in the night

Excellent location very close to town centre. Easy walk to bars, restaurants and attractions. Very clean and in good repair.

Although the facade and front range of the building are period, the vast majority of this very large hotel is much more recently built. The hotel is not very user friendly if you have any mobility issues. Steps at lots of places on ground floor corridors and no lift to first floor rooms. If you have mobility issues you will need to make this clear when you book. The £9 odd per day parking fee also seemed excessive given the cost of the accommodation.

After moving to a different room see below we liked everything. Great location for the town a few minutes walk. Clean comfy rooms. Great breakfast and we enjoyed our restaurant meal which at our request the chef cooked promptly for us as we were going out. Lovely swimming pool which we made used of.

I had booked a twin room and had checked two days before that it was definitely a twin room. We were shocked when we entered our room to find it was a suite with one bed and one sofa bed! We investigated the sofa bed- it had a very thin mattress and didn't look comfy. If I booked a twin room I certainly don't expect to be given one of the beds as a sofa bed. I went down to reception and complained and was told that we had been upgraded to a suite! I don't think being given a sofa bed is an upgrade!!. When I complained I was told there were no twin bedrooms available but on complaining further the receptionist said he would see if he could find one and gave us one. After the hassle of having to lug our luggage up and down lots of stairs again and walk quite a long way we were pleased with the reallocated room

Good location we could walk to all the places we wanted to visit. Rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was very good

Our room was not serviced on Friday even though we had left the please service room sign on the door. We complained to reception. All housekeeping staff had left & they promised to call with a resolution. We waited for over an hour & during this time tried to contact reception by phone numerous times but they never answered our calls. Finally after going to reception personally again some fresh towels were delivered & the duty manager arranged for the room to be cleaned that evening We had planned to have a sauna & swim which we had to forego and had to push back a dinner reservation that evening by an hour. We were promised a call to discuss this which we never received. We raised the subject again during checkout when a 10% discount was the best they could offer It was such a shame as it was a great location but this spoiled the overall stay
