Warm clean, historical, good food and beer close to Hartington village centre

The lager on draughty really wasn’t nice

The hall is spacious and traditional with wood panelling and beamed ceilings. Bunk rooms were light and airy with comfy beds with wash basin and ensuite shower. Toilets were clean and well stocked. Food was good. We enjoyed breakfast and evening meals. Hostel staff were so friendly and helpful. A big shout out to Gill on reception who had us in stitches and also recommended the Nepalese curries at the village hotel/pub which were outstanding. The circular 3 dales walk from Hartington was just right (6 miles), beautiful and spectacular scenery.

Beautiful building from the outside but a little tired inside.

The flies! There were flies everywhere, especially in the self catering kitchen in the Coach House where there was no screen on the window. There were flies crawling over all the work surfaces, table and floor which was disgusting. The lighting in the common rooms was very bad and it made it impossible to read.
