Pousada Convento de Tavira

Wonderful location and incredible historical feeling to the whole hotel. A real jewel! Easy walk to all other locations in the town!

We had a lovely stay in this very unique hotel. It was like living in a museum. The centre of the convent was undergoing an archeological dig due to recent findings so it really was like stepping back in time. Our room faced the park. It was very quaint and quirky with plenty of space and seemingly decorated in-keeping with the convent itself - simple and peaceful. . Breakfast was amazing. Cooked and continental. There was a lovely outside area - or you could eat inside too - but it felt so peaceful and calm. The swimming pool was lovely. Lots of space between sunbeds. In fact I’ve never sat around a pool in such peaceful surroundings. There were no children and everyone was respectfully quiet. Parking was free and secure and when we left we were given a little bag of cookies for our journey which was a lovely touch. The employees were so helpful and friendly. Location was excellent. About a 5 minute stroll to the river and centre of Tavira. Cobblestones could be a tad slippy. Castle was a stones throw away - free to enter with some beautiful gardens and views over the river. The property is beautifully quiet. The bedroom was kept beautifully clean and was very comfortable. Good bed and linen. The bath/shower could have been better. Quite cramped and water pressure not very high. The bathroom wouldn’t suit anybody unable to step over a bath to shower.

The bar furnishings could do with being refurbished. My husband found the repetitive music very annoying. It was a shame the middle courtyard was closed off to the archeological dig.
