La Gaffe - Bed and Breakfast

Perfect location close to tube station and Hampstead village. A short walk to Hampstead Heath. All staff very helpful, friendly and accommodating especially Lorenzo. Lovely friendly atmosphere . Quaintly old fashioned in decor and ethos. Very clean. Delicious fresh croissants in a decent continental breakfast.

Steep staircases with narrow treads to upstairs rooms. Might be a problem for less fit guests. Traffic noise can be a bit intrusive in front facing bedrooms but triple glazing and efficient fan helps a lot.

10/10 – a little Hampstead gem I stayed at La Gaffe for two nights and honestly couldn’t fault it. I was in Room 10, a lovely double room on the top floor, which was immaculately clean and wonderfully quiet. I slept incredibly well. The location is about as good as you can get in Hampstead. The station is literally a three-minute walk away, the transport links are brilliant, and Hampstead itself is right on the doorstep. It’s worth saying what La Gaffe isn’t. This isn’t a glamorous boutique hotel or a slick corporate operation. It feels much more like an old-fashioned Italian pensione — somewhere between a small hotel and a B&B — and that’s precisely its charm. It’s a little quirky, a little hokey-pokey, completely individual and wonderfully old-school. It’s been part of Hampstead for decades and feels like it. But the real reason I’m giving it 10/10 is the people who run it. They get 100/10. Genuinely some of the loveliest, kindest and most welcoming people you could hope to meet. You feel looked after rather than processed. Breakfast is included and served in a lovely room, with excellent croissants and, importantly, really good coffee freshly made individually for each guest — no pot of stewed coffee sitting around. If you’re looking for glamour and corporate polish, this probably isn’t for you. If you want somewhere spotlessly clean, peaceful, brilliantly located, full of character and run by thoroughly lovely people, La Gaffe is an absolute find. I would go back in a heartbeat.

We absolutely loved this hotel, it gave us everything we needed. It was super clean, there was cleaning every day, they tidied even our pyjamas left on bed. The staff was super friendly. We were satisfied with the breakfast, there were eggs, ham, jams, yoghurt, bread, croissant, coffea, tea, juice, very good quality. Metro station and a Tesco was 5 minutes from hotel, so it is easily reachable by public transport from every part of London.

The location is great. The staff are amazing

Shower only ran boiling hot but staff were dealing. No a/c, it was really hot. Could do with a bit of TLC in rooms.
