Madelise Grand Hotel & Spa

Louis and Lina were absolutely lovely. They were extremely helpful, giving us recommendations on where to go and very good English too which was handy!! Nice rooms, clean and good aircon, overall just amazing for the price.

It was all lovely. No cons. Hanoi is naturally noisy, so don’t expect rooms to be too quiet. But the staff and rooms more than make up for it.

The manager Eric and the rest of his team were very attentive, polite, and so helpful. Their communication and friendliness was amazing and second to none. The bell boys deserve an Oscar for always being there to lend a helping hand with a smile. I will miss them all and can’t wait to go back.

We loved everything. It’s a very busy area as it’s in the old quarter but that’s just what we wanted. Plenty of bars shops and food stalls

The location was good, being close to Ho Han Kiem (lake), where you can buy tickets for The Hop On Hop Off bus tour. Overall, the staff were very helpful.

We imagine like others, we were beguiled by the attractive room pictures on Booking.com. However, even accepting that the hotel is going to show its best rooms, ours and our son's were disappointing, with no external windows, only to the internal corridor, or ventilation. The main problem though was the very musty smell and the damp feel of the bedding and everything we left in the room whilst out, undoubtedly a consequence of the lack of ventilation. Perhaps that's our fault for booking a hotel in the Old Quarter; certainly we should have read the reviews more thoroughly beforehand. Also, it is fair to say that the Madelise was one of the most reasonable hotels in the area, so we couldn't (and didn't) expect The Ritz or The Savoy, but Grand it wasn't and we weren't sorry to move on.
