Wester Muirhouse

Our stay with Nicola and Eric at their beautiful property was absolutely wonderful. The accommodation was clean with all the creature comforts of home. Spacious and well equipped with breakfast goodies supplied it was a pleasure to stay there. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts who even drove us into town the couple of times we needed to go. Thanks again guys for a wonderful couple of days.

I can’t say a bad thing about the property or our stay.

The place was lovely and comfortable and was presented excactly as depicted in the photos on the website. While it is a little out of the way, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet on an evening and through the night, and waking to a wonderful view from the bedroom window across the fields to nearby Linlithgow. On all of our visits to Scotland, breakfasts have been a deliciously ample start to the day and this was no exception as we were provided with eggs, bacon, bread, butter, jams, cereal, milk, orange juice, Muller corner yoghurts, and chocolate brioche. We also really appreciated the pod coffee machine and selection of coffees. The hot water boiler doesn't mess about, immediately providing incredibly hot water whenever we needed it for showers, washing up, etc. Communication with the hosts was excellent with Erich providing detailed instructions on getting there and getting in, and it was lovely to have a chat with them both before we left. Bonus points for having a cute dog! We were only there for two nights to attend a wedding, but would very happily have stayed for longer and will be looking to next time we return to the area.

I'm a tall guy (6'3") and on the first morning I really smashed my head on the sloped ceiling above the master bed, hurting my neck and leaving me with a headache for the rest of the day. My partner (5'5") had no such issue, so tall guys be careful getting out of bed! The only other thing I could fault was a lack of brown sugar for my coffee (they only had white sugar) and black pepper for my bacon & eggs, neither of which are deal breakers.

Location was great, and the host was very helpful and responsive. We needed a scale to weigh luggage for our trip out the next morning and they were so very nice to let us use their scale. The beds were comfortable and there was a lot of space to relax and lounge.

The listing is quite deceptive about the breakfast. "Breakfast is included in the final price" means that they will leave you a loaf of bread, pastries, milk and juice in the fridge, and bacon and eggs in the fridge for you to prepare for yourself in the morning. Unfortunately we realized this late and had to quickly make breakfast in the morning and unfortunately did not have time to wash our dishes before leaving the property in the morning(no directions for this so not sure if we were to do this or not). Typically for B&B your breakfast is included and made for you. This added a bit of stress to the end of our stay, but we were thankful to have food to eat!

Lovely location close to towns but quiet with far reaching views

It was very cold indoors with insufficient heating. The owner did his best to provide extra heaters but it really wasn’t very comfortable. Masses of glass in the living area with no curtains or blinds. Cutlery kept breaking. Extractor fan in kitchenette not working.
