Hotel Restaurant - Häuserl im Wald Graz

The location was excellent, parking was very good, and the overall ambiance is superb. I chose this place based upon favorable reviews, pricing, the reputation of the restaurant, and the fact that this Haus was in an older style which we prefer.

The staff was surprisingly disappointing. Upon checking in, the young man at the reception desk told me I would be staying in a separate building 250 meters distant. I had asked for a ground floor, we are older folks and hauling luggage up stairs is unpleasant. My simple request was, if I can get someone to help with our two roll-on bags, stairs are acceptable. “Nein! We already have you in a separate building”. A senior manager intervened and directed the young man to carry the bags. A hour later, ca 14.00, we walked into the restaurant and requested a table for two outside. The restaurant was perhaps 10% occupied, a female server directed us to a dark corner, I asked if we might sit out in a sunny area, with an indication of disgust she waved her hand dismissively and said sit where you want, and walked off. My wife asked for a menu in English. The menu was formatted in a manner my wife was struggling with and didn’t quite understand. When my wife, asked Kellner Matthias for an English menu a second time, Matthias became annoyed. He took the menu from her hands, opened to a page and pointed and in raising his voice pointed to 3 or 4 item say “English! English! English!, they are all in English!” and walked off. I asked Kellner Matthias for a drink menu in German, his reply was “We don’t have one, What do you want?” I told him I’d like to see what biers are offered. Mattias replied we light beers dark beers Weissbier, what do you want?” We ordered and quietly drank our drinks. Two Austrian men at an adjacent table said “Don’t pay him attention, it’s just his character. It’s probably a side gig or weekend job”. For the record my wife and I are seasoned travelers, she is 84, I am 80, I speak German at the B2 level based upon Goethe Institute Berlin, we have been to Europe several dozen times, and this trip have been in country for almost 3 weeks.

La posizione dell'albergo: isolata. Non riuscivamo a trovare la stanza, ma l'abbiamo preso come avventura. Lo staff di accoglienza cordiale ma...(Vedi cosa non mi è piaciuto)

Lo staff capiva in inglese, forse anche in italiano, ma rispondeva in tedesco e ha spiegato la strada per la stanza in tedesco, era un po' mancanza di rispetto da parte mia, vi si fermavano varie nazionalità. Ma alla fine l'ho presa sul divertimento. Mia figlia aveva voglia di mangiare la zuppa di pomodoro, ma il ristorante adiacente non la faceva.
