This is a beautiful hotel — and I’m not sure the photos fully do it justice. Tucked away just off the main road, it has so much charm, character and fantastic décor.
We ended our 15-day tour of Sri Lanka here for some much-needed R&R, and it was the perfect place to finish our trip. From the moment we arrived, every single member of the team made us feel incredibly welcome. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and what really stood out was how thoughtful and attentive everyone was — often anticipating what we needed before we even realised we needed it.
It’s rare to stay somewhere where every member of staff, across every part of the hotel, genuinely seems to care. From the warm welcomes and attentive service to the little touches throughout our stay, the whole team went above and beyond to make our experience special.
The food was fantastic too. We had, without a doubt, the best breakfast of our entire 15-day trip here, and enjoyed two excellent dinners as well.
A truly wonderful, luxurious and relaxing experience, made all the more special by the people behind it. A huge thank you to every single member of the team — you made the perfect end to our Sri Lankan adventure, and we couldn’t have asked for more.
As others have mentioned - it's close to Trainline (which in itself adds a certain atmosphere).

This small hotel is a real oasis that is unexpected when you approach the unassuming location. Once through the gates it is a wow destination that feels a bit like stepping back in time. We loved the pool, the grounds, the outside spaces, restaurant and access to the beach. We had the room at the front with the plunge pool which felt private and exclusive. We felt very spoilt by the staff here, especially Nisha who looked after us so well. Afternoon tea was a lovely bonus and breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Thank you for our three nights of total relaxation. We didn’t want to leave !
The rooms feel a little enclosed due to the lack of natural light. I guess these are designed to keep out the heat but I missed the feeling of space that windows give. Having said this, I would still come back to this hotel again so it can’t have worried me that much ! The train noise bothered me a little as I’m a light sleeper. My husband didn’t hear it so I suppose it depends on sleeping habits.

Great service comfortable rooms and good food
The air conditioning in our room didn’t cool too well (room 3) but the weather was super warm and maybe that’s why

The attention to detail. Impeccable service, the staff was truly the best, warm and kind. Beautiful property. Amazing food. Very clean, spotless!
We chose the room with the private plunge pool, and, unfortunately for us, perhaps the worst room in the entire property. The pool is not really private, it is open to the common area, so it defeats the purpose of having a “private” plunge pool. Also, by plunge pool we mean a bathtub size “pool”, it is not really a place where you can swim at all, just seat in it. Unfortunately, this is also the closest room to the train tracks and you not only hear it very close, but the room itself shakes every time the train passes. And bear in mind, it continually passes by, all day and night. The room didn’t have windows, well, one very small and high window that you couldn’t really open as all the mosquitos would come in (didn’t have fly screen nor glass as such, just a wooden window). Same with the main room door, you couldn’t really leave it open. So basically you were trapped in a very dark stone oven (yes, the room takes ages to cool down, it was basically an oven). You couldn’t leave the bathroom door open either (which was quite small) because the only (small) window didn’t have a screen or glass, just a wooden frame. So if you would leave it open, the heat and mosquitos will get in. The staff mentioned the best rooms are at the main house. So probably try to get those.
We must add, the beach, although beautiful, is across the train tracks. It is not too far, but it is not close either…. They have a private beach team for lounge chairs and other services, but honestly, the whole thing is a bit inconvenient.
