Lovely location. The bath was lovely and the rooms were so spacious and comfortable. The breakfast hamper was a lovely added touch. The gardens were beautiful. Travelled with toddler who loved the park. Thank you for a memorable stay. We will be back soon!
Nothing it was lovely wish we could have stayed longer

It was very secluded, welcoming and dog friendly. Having a continental breakfast delivered to our room meant a very relaxed start to the day. The location was beautiful and our dog didn’t want to leave she loved it so much!
Nothing comes to mind

Our host collected us from the train station, which was welcome. We were wonderfully looked after this gorgeous old hotel in the forest, walking distance from Machynlleth.
Beautiful rooms named after opera composers, with books, fridge in room filled with breakfast supplies and a coffee maker, breakfast room with a grand piano and accordion, and unlimited coffee, and other supplies available. We loved the musical theme. The balcony with table and chairs was welcome. A charming hotel.
An improved taxi service in the town of Machynlleth would be useful for those travelling by train to stay at Plas Dolguog. Best to arrive by car or arrange a pickup ahead of time.

We stayed at Plas Dolguog in August 2026, and our overall impression was that the estate has enormous potential, but also requires considerably more attention.
The estate is within walking distance of Machynlleth, making it easy to explore the town and its attractions. The property itself is beautifully situated, with wonderful views and a lovely garden.
In terms of hospitality, however, there is still a lot to improve, and the experience falls short of what most guests would expect from a B&B at this price point.
We appreciate that this is an old mansion, and we genuinely enjoyed much of its quirkiness and character. However, some basic improvements are essential to make a stay here comfortable and worth the price. The floor in our room was extremely uneven, to the point where it genuinely felt as though we were sleeping on a boat, and we had to adjust our position in bed to avoid feeling as though we might roll off. The bathroom also felt as though it would benefit from a more thorough deep clean and some basic attention to detail. One of the glasses was dirty, presumably not replaced after the previous guests, and there was no hook or hanger where we could leave clothes or a towel.
We were lucky to have good weather during our stay, which meant that we could enjoy our balcony and use it as an extension of the room. Had the weather been worse (as it often can be in Wales) the room would have felt rather small for anything beyond sleeping. The only alternative was the music room, which currently consists of several tables, one sofa and two chairs. For an estate of this size, there should be more comfortable communal space to relax. I understand that the idea here is for guests to make use of the beautiful garden, but the weather will not always allow that, and there should be a comfortable indoor alternative.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the breakfast. When booking, I initially did not notice that the B&B did not offer a served breakfast and instead provided breakfast baskets. I later received messages clearly explaining the concept, so I knew what to expect. Nevertheless, I was very disappointed by what was actually provided. The basket contained milk, yoghurt, orange juice, granola, bread, butter, jam, honey and a pastry. It was rather basic for the price of the stay.
