Hotel Stafholt

Restaurant was Excellent! Hot tub was roomy and hot, plus you had a great view of the northern lights from the hot tub.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had to adjust our plans due to inclement weather and they provided many alternative activities as well as future suggestions for our next nights stay in Reykjavik. And the dinner was one of the best we had, not just in Iceland!

Our room was very spacious compared to other hotels we experienced in Iceland. The hot tub was a wonderful end to the day, although, we wished it was a bit warmer. The dinner was a highlight of our stay. The meal was delicious and it was a really nice touch to have the chef come out and speak to all the guests. This location was perfect for us, as we were headed to the Into the Glacier tour the following morning.

The receptionist got a little frustrated when he checked us in. We had booked and paid for breakfast and dinner, and apparently the dinner we purchased was no longer offered at the hotel. He struggled for a minute trying to figure out how to handle the situation. Ultimately, he made arrangements to prorate dinner in the restaurant which was a much larger valued meal. His frustration was never aimed at us, though, so I wouldn't call it a big negative.

This property is in a great location to enjoy the Icelandic countryside with mountain views or landscapes all around. The staff were good and the meals fine. The rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Need to be careful which room you get assigned. We were given a room - labelled as garden views - which looked at a corrugated metal wall 3 ft away. Even torturing the English language won’t deliver ‘garden views’ out of that. The picure of the rooms shows a view - if you closeup to the windows - which is clearly a landscape type view, not a metal wall. As far as we could determine, only 3 or 4 of the rooms have this problem. But they should not be priced as ‘rooms with a view’ and nor should they be charged at that level. I suspect these rooms are not used except in absolutely high season. And the place was full. Suggest negotiated beforehand which room you will be assigned.
