The location was amazing, it was beach front and shops as soon as you step out of the resort, everything was walking distance. We also love the history and feel of the resort, we were in the Historic Ocean King, Guest room which was beautiful and we got an upgrade to the Historic suit, ocean view which was roomy and had magnificent views of the ocean. We also loved the staff who shared the Aloha spirit.
Unfortunately there were renovation to the tower which wasn't pleasant with the noise. When booking accommodation there should be a disclosure to say that the resort is going to renovations as a pre-warning. Also we would have thought that the beach chairs and umbrellas would have been included in our resort fees considering the resort was quiet pricey.

The location is excellent, on the sand and adjacent to great shopping and restaurants.
The property shows a lot of wear and tear, and you pay a premium for that experience.

Location is great, the building is historic. Beach is the real selling point to the property. The stores in the hotel are all of one kind (tacky boutiques) and the in hotel food options are expensive and pretty limited.
The hotel is dirty and dated. The price of our stay, you would expect more quality and better staffing - people were nice but didn't really go up and beyond. We asked for a later departure -- asked well before coming to the hotel, to no avail... oh well. The gym facilities are a joke -- Motel 6 has better on site exercise rooms.
