1800's Original Cozy Romantic Cabin For 2 Or The Family
About this cabin rental
This Beautiful Cabin was taken timber by timber from its original location in Etowah County, Alabama. The cabin is pre-civil war in construction, it was reconstructed using the old mortar technique and then added on to in its current location. The Cabin sits on a private road behind a gate. Secluded is an understatement. Fenced yard for your doggies!. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Crystal Clear East Fork of the Little River, just below a waterfall which can be heard as soon as you open the door to the car during the wetter seasons. We have an inviting front porch with a cozy antique swing where many a book has been read in the fragrant mountain air. The Cabin itself retains all of its antique charm as you enter the Great room with its enormous original stone double sided wood-burning fireplace serving the great-room and the Master bedroom both located on the lower floor. The Upstairs is separated by a staircase that leads to a private spacious upper loft that contains two Twin beds and a Queen Bed. There is a fully functional kitchen with stainless appliances/dishwasher/stove/oven/refrigerator/freezer. One Bathroom Downstairs, with High Efficency Maytag Washer and Dryer. Flat Screen TV with Apple TV/DVD/Inside/outside Stereo/Xbox/Wireless Internet/Dish Network/Central Heat and Air. Master Bedroom overlooks a large elevated back porch and the river can be heard from an open window. There is a large stone hearth wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. The Bedroom opens onto a cozy screened in porch with a 6 person water therapy spa/hot-tub. There is a charcoal grill on the back porch. There are steps to the fire-pit and picnic area overlooking the river, and steps to the river itself where depending on the water level you can swim/float/fish/lounge or sit in the crystal clear mountain water. The house is about 10 minutes from Downtown Mentone for antique shopping/cultural activity/or fantastic food and music at the Wildflower Cafe or other restaurants. The canyon is also about 10 minutes away, and 5 Minutes from Alpine Boys Camp, Desoto State Park, Desoto Waterfall, and Lake. There are wildflowers galore and wild blueberries and blackberries and plums along the road depending on the season. Wildlife abounds everywhere. The Tin Roof provides a great sound to sleep to when it rains. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER IN THE TEXT OF YOUR REQUEST SO I CAN GET BACK TO YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Loved the cabin. We stayed very possibly the five coldest nights in the history of Alabama, and loved the quiet stillness. We hiked, ate a lot, read, and did a lot of fun day trips. We would definitely stay again.

Away from it all, is just that! I have come to Mentone my whole life-It is my happy place. It is where I come to reset and center myself. I have stayed at 2 of their cabins now and they are my favorite. The location provides seclusion but is very close to the park and not a far drive to Dinner in Mentone (May 15 minutes). I love that you can hear the water from the deck and you have the option of a fire inside or a fire pit outside. Our dog Annie Oakley loved going down to the river every day and sleeping by the fire at night. The owner is extremely responsive, kind, and appreciates repeat visitors. The cabins are rustic but w modern conveniences. My dream is to retire in Mentone at some point but until then I will return to their rustic 1800’s cabins every time.
Helpful hint- I did forget my fire starters and managed to channel my inner Girl Scout one night, however she did not return. The park store sells them!!!

We enjoyed our stay so much. It’s so quiet except for the lovely sound of the rushing water. The bed and pillows downstairs were very comfortable.

It was a perfect place nestled away from everything. But yet still close to everything, it was beautiful more than I could expect it. It loved all the little touches

The property is a cute log cabin that connects you to history with its rustic beams. It was relaxing and we were sorry that waterfalls and rivers were either completely dried up or barely flowing. It was still beautiful to explore the area, but we would have loved to know ahead of time that the levels were so low. We noticed a bad odor around our cabin and it definitely impacted the enjoyment of the property. We also noticed the odor when hiking around DeSoto Park. We guessed that it was decaying matter that was no longer covered by water, but we weren't sure. This cabin is perfect for a couple or up to 4 people along with animals. There was a fenced area for pets to run in which is a big plus for those traveling with pets. The furniture placement was awkward due to the room sizes, but it was still quaint and comfortable. Beds were comfortable and having a hot tub was a big plus. If you like seclusion, you will love it!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Cabin was very clean and everything was as advertised. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this cabin really lives up to it's name.

We have been here twice this year and stayed in one of the hosts cabin. He has beautiful properties and they are well maintained with plenty of charm. We always love staying in his rentals and will be returning again in January. This is the perfect secluded getaway for us to relax and enjoy time together away from it all. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us again.

This was a beautiful property! My husband and I enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit, and steps down to the river. We plan to come back to the same area when there is more water to enjoy bigger waterfalls. It has been dry in Alabama so the area waterfalls were low or non-existent. It was still a great experience and a relaxing few days off!

Unbelievable cabin with the most excellent host! Very clean, comfortable bed and nice outdoor spaces to sit, relax, read and pray! We enjoyed hearing the waterfall and even took the hike to explorer it further. Such a pleasant and peaceful place - we definitely will return! Melissa

If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to relax and unwind, this is your place. We loved the cabin, especially the hot tub. It was so nice sitting out on the porch/deck and hearing nothing but the sounds of nature around you. We could still hear the river, even though the water was pretty low. I know it would be even more amazing in the wetter seasons. It was especially nice to be able to share this time with our sweet dog, Daisy, as she has cancer and we don't know how many more trips we will have with her. She really enjoyed exploring the area, too. Would love to come back sometime!

Enjoyed our stay. Second time here. Came before in the winter. Wanted to come back in summer once we saw the awesome river out back. Cabin is good in either season. Super cozy in winter, great fire pit outside and fireplace inside. River access and shade from trees in the summer make beating the heat a breeze. Want to come again in Fall to see the Fall colors.

We enjoyed staying at this secluded cabin. It was clean and cozy. It also had a few things we needed without having to purchase too much. The only thing I would change is clearing the rubbish for a view of the river below the deck.

We were looking for a secluded cabin and was excited to see this one was available on short notice. However, my husband tried booking on VRBO less than 24 hours from our stay. Since it is VRBO's policy not to book less than 24 hrs, I emailed the owner and he was able to work it out for us. I hate to have a complaint, but there are two things we would recommend. The first is the furniture by the fire pit needs to be replaced and the other is the water pressure was too strong in the shower (maybe change the showerhead to a water saver so you can change the settings on it.) The property is very secluded in the woods with a gorgeous view of the river. We loved having a hot tub. We opened the windows at night to hear the river and wake up to the birds chirping. The owner has everything you need to stay. Just pick up your groceries and your set. We can't wait to return. Thank you so much for a much needed relaxing few days. P.S. Wildflower Cafe in town has great food and atmosphere. The people are so friendly in the area as well.

Away from it all is a perfect name for this little cabin. We enjoyed a quiet weekend just relaxing. This place is perfect. We definitely want to come again in the summer and enjoy the water. We stayed 2 nights and it just wasn’t long enough. FYI, save your door code and WiFi password before you go because once you get there, you have zero service.

This was such a great trip. The cabin was so comfortable and the river behind was incredible! Great place to unplug and relax.

The cabin was exceptional with so many thoughtful touches that exceeded what we've encountered on most of our travels. You can tell that the owners and caretakers really love this place and it is filled with warmth and great vibes. My husband and I are busy professionals who desperately needed to get away for a few days to do absolutely NOTHING. We brought our golden retriever, who was delighted to discover that rivers exist. He was living his best life, galloping over the rocks and splashing in the water. It rained all weekend so unfortunately by the 3rd day the river was too high and fast for our pup to safely swim, but he had plenty of fun the first 2 days. Probably the best days of his young life! My husband and I enjoyed the persistent rain and didn't leave the property the entire weekend except for our outstanding dinner at the Wildflower Café the night before we left. Other than that, we mostly just relaxed in the wonderful hot tub, cuddled in front of the fire, and ate big, indulgent pancake brunches. We were really happy it was a chilly weekend because initially we weren't sure we'd be able to enjoy the fireplaces in April. The temps were in the 40s and the cold and rainy weather suited us perfectly. It was so cozy opening the windows to listen to the rain and the river while the fire was roaring nearby. Absolute bliss. For a low-key romantic couple's getaway I really don't know how to top this cabin.

The place was nice, but linens were in the dryer and dishes still in the dishwasher when we arrived. The floors were dirty. May be just a one time issue, otherwise a cool place.

We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin! It was exactly as described and right on the river. The hottub was perfect especially since it was cold and the beds were super comfy! We have stayed in many cabins before, some more luxurious, but this was by far the best cabin we have stayed in. It had the right amount of seclusion and the natural elements surrounding the property made for the perfect cabin experience. We also loved that this cabin had history and one of the reasons it sparked our interest to begin with. We hiked at Desoto State Park which had some great hiking trails. We also went to Little River Canyon and enjoyed the scenery. We ate at the Wildflower Cafe which was delicious! Best to note that many places are closed during the week in the winter time (we were there in March) so if you are planning on shopping or eating out much make sure your trip includes a weekend. If you are looking for some place to just unwind then this is the perfect cabin for you! The hosts were very helpful. We 100% recommend this cabin for families or romantic getaways!
