120 Yr Old Cabin, great couple\/family get away
About this cabin rental
Located near a small creek with over 40 acres of land to explore. Trails will take you to a small private creek with native trout. From the front porch, you can see deer, turkey, and other wildlife. This rustic cabin was relocated in 1957 from the original family home place. Cabin's kitchen will meet the needs of weekend visitors with modern conveniences. The private bedroom loft offers a large window that looks over 5 acres of pasture. The living area includes a TV (for DVD's only- no satellite or cable) and assortment of DVD's and games. The main living areas has two sleeper sofas that will sleep four. We intentionally did not put Wi-Fi or Cable in the Cabin so you can truly get away. However cell service is strong so you can still receive text and voice messages. Please note: the steps to the loft bedroom are steep.... Also, the front steps (3 steps) onto the porch are rock and the last one is higher that the first two. There is a smaller step to the right of the porch you can use to get onto the porch and into the house if needed. This cabin is not handicapped accessible... WINTER MONTHS...IF WE HAVE A BIG DUMP OF SNOW...YOU WILL NEED 4X4 or AWD to get up the last hill......No Snow....No Problem....But if we get a lot of snow you will need a vehicle that puts traction on all 4 tires....

This was the 3rd time we had stayed at the property. It is always a treat. Very relaxing, secluded and private. But also right down the road from Boone & Blowing Rock. We brought our 2 dogs and had a great time. Will certainly be coming back.

The weather kept us indoors more than we wanted so another trip may be necessary to fully enjoy the property

We loved this little cabin in the middle of a big field. At night it was so dark you could see all the stars.
We had more than enough room for us and our dog.
We hope to return on our next visit to the area!

Rustic and absolutely beautiful. Perfect if you want to recnnect to nature. Close to everything you could possibly to in the mountains but also very private. The host was great also. We got to see snow for the first time in several years. That was just a bonus !

Had a splendid time here at this simple but very special place. Location is superb, owners are very accommodating and the space is peaceful and relaxing. Had an excellent quiet holiday here in 2023 and will always remember it. Loved coming in on Christmas to the cute decorations and coziness of this cabin! Thank you!

The property is exactly everything they say it is and more. My husband and I stayed for our Wedding Anniversary and was very pleased with the location, the amenities, and the beautiful simplicity of it all.
It feels secluded but yet only minutes from town. There was plenty of bathroom, bedroom, and kitchen amenities provided…more than expected. It was decorated nicely for Christmas, and the unexpected snow was an added bonus.
We will definitely stay again in the future.

Wonder feeling of the old cabin.

We both agree if we had arrived and there was only this beautiful cabin this would be a 5 star trip. However, when we arrived the cabin was beautifully decorated for Christmas with outside lights, inside decorations and a Christmas tree. The decorations were perfect and not overdone. Plus we also found a nice anniversary basket for us which was a great touch.
Our only disappointment was the weather as we had hoped to have more time to explore the 200 acres at the cabin but were rained in. We did get to follow the logging trail for a bit but not as much as we had wanted.
All in all if you love the mountains and staying in an old cabin this is your spot. So close to Boone and other attractions but nestled in the woods.
We loved it and will be back!!

Wonderful quiet place for a getaway with a ton of space for our very active 3 year old to run in the woods and fields. Ed was friendly as could be and offered assistance frying a turkey if we needed it since we were there for thanksgiving. We were welcomed to walk anywhere on the property and just enjoy the place. My son loved playing board games inside while warming up since it was pretty chilly, and we spent so much time throwing rocks in the creeks, climbing the hills and fields. It was a needed break for my family for a holiday and I can’t think of a better place to have spent it. We hope to come back again after our next one is born!
Thank you so much for the ability to stay in the old cabin! You’ve no idea what this past year has been and what this trip meant for us.

This is just a great get away. It is relaxing, easy, and close to many attractions if that is you thing. We just hung out with the dogs and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Great "back room" to just hang out and read, watch tv ect. There is no WiFi but I brought my computer and a chord and was able to watch all my college football games there on the tv. Great spot!!!

Beautiful cabin!!! My partner and I had such a wonderful and relaxing time staying at this cabin. Very close to town, so super easy to get around, but far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown so super peaceful. Our 3 dogs loved exploring the property. 10/10 stay, can’t wait to come back again sometime soon!!!

Such a great peaceful, restful, getaway spot. We love to come and just enjoy the cabin. If you wish to go into town to shop or eat it’s very close. We also love that the owners dog, Oreo spent a good amount of time laying on the porch, which makes the place feel like home.

Great convenient location, with a terrific yard for our dogs to play in. Cabin is cozy and clean, love the stone floor and huge logs the cabin was built with. Will definitely stay here again.

It was our second stay at this wonderful cabin and it did not disappoint! Our only complaint is that we were only able to stay for 4 days! It’s an incredibly special place, so comfortable and the host has thought of absolutely everything to make the stay extra amazing. We could not have enjoyed our time more and absolutely cannot wait to visit again! Thank you sharing this beautiful and peaceful paradise with us!!

We absolutely enjoyed our few days while staying at this beautiful property and cabin.

We totally enjoyed our stay at the cabin. We were visiting our grand daughter at App State and this was the perfect fit for us! The cabin was charming and cozy with erything that was needed. No T V or internet, however losts of time to talk, play games and just relax. We did not miss the modern convenience of TV or internet at all.
Thank you for the opportunity to have quiet time away from all of the modern trappings.

We loved our stay in this cabin. Its peaceful and beautiful.
My husband and I were in awe of the property. We enjoyed wandering the property to explore and hike. On our 2nd day and night, it rained which made the stream louder than usual. Talk about the perfect ambiance. The views from the porch are second to none. We went to the Lowes food store, purchased some local brews, and just sat outside and listened to the sounds of the night.
Our dog, River, loved the cabin as well. This was our first vacation bringing him and I couldn't have imagined a better first place. The field in the front yard provided him hours of fun playing fetch. He loved the cool rock floors of the interior of the cabin. However, he did not like the stairs. They are steep and he was too chicken to climb them (and too heavy to carry). Be mindful if you have a dog that has to sleep with you that you may or may not be able to get them upstairs. This wasn't an issue for us, but I could see how some pet owners would want to know this.
The cabin is an ideal distance from town. You are far enough that you get away from App State students but close enough that you can pop over to downtown if you want. The cabin is an easy drive to multiple sites on the Parkway. We also found two other community parks within 15 minutes that we spent time hiking and fishing in. The cabin was the perfect home base.
Thank you to the hosts! We will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed our stay. Great place to retreat, for peace and quiet. Loved sitting on the front porch, especially in the morning. Close to several hikes as well as downtown Boone and Blowing Rock . Would definitely stay here again.

We took a trip with family and friends and it was an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The home was cozy and we had just about everything we needed! The owners were very kind and responsive. The front porch was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view and the property was lovely to explore. Only small inconveniences were that there was not an outdoor grill or grate for the fire pit which makes it tricky to cook for a larger group. And there is nowhere in the bathroom to hang towels so we went through the available linens more quickly than we’d meant to. We would certainly come back again to this beautiful spot!

We were looking for a place to celebrate our 52 nd anniversary and this was our first choice. The beautiful view from the front porch drinking coffee and watching the deer wake up to exploring Boone’s Restaurants, shopping, and Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. Many other thing that your host will help you find. This was our 4 th visit. Next year will be our 5 th

A charming, authentic log cabin—yet with modern conveniences. So comfortable, quiet and private, only a few miles from all the action! Was pleasantly surprised that it was well stocked with toilet paper and paper towels, and Keurig pods. After experiencing a stay without wifi, all I can say is it was glorious. Truly a relaxing experience. And the tap water was so clean and tasty that I didn’t even bother with the bottled water we brought. Ed and Becca are great hosts—we arrived to a beautifully decorated space ready to celebrate July 4th, and a wonderful goodie bag for our anniversary. This was our first trip ever with our pet Husky, and she loved the place, inside and out. If you need a pet-friendly accommodation in the beautiful Boone/Grandfather Mountain area, this cabin is a great choice.

We enjoyed a wonderful family summer vacation in this cabin! The cabin is a beautiful treasure and it was so nice to feel like we had stepped away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Front porch sittin', s'mores in the backyard, and walks to the creek made for special family memories.

Great place with plenty of privacy. The owner was very helpful getting us checked in and making sure we were comfortable. Would definitely stay again

We had such a wonderful stay! The property with trails and stream with little waterfall/rapids was amazing. The owners are honest and helpful. We really had a great time. Thank you!

First, I would like to start with all of the positives because there are many. The property is very nice, if you have dogs- it's their own little paradise. We spent every morning and night hiking out to the creek for our dogs to play around. It's especially nice that you can let them run free without worrying about leashing them constantly. The bed is extraordinarily comfortable, my husband and I agreed that we had some of the best sleep during our stay. The cabin also seems a lot bigger than pictured which was a nice surprise. They have a huge selection of games and movies too! We really enjoyed the peacefulness of our stay.
Unfortunately, there were a few things that can't be ignored. We arrived on a Friday afternoon during a rainstorm and left on a Sunday. We did not have a working toilet during the entirety of our stay, possibly due to the excess rain flooding their septic system. We were in contact with Ed on Saturday and he did come over and attempt to fix the issue. Unfortunately, we realized immediately that it did not work after arriving back after dinner. We figured that it could be something that couldn't be fixed overnight, so we resorted to peeing outside. Upon letting Ed know the next day that the toilet was still unusable, we received no response. Having used VRBO for so many of our trips, we definitely expected to receive at least a small refund for the rather serious issue... Especially because we have received refunds for much less serious issues without even asking. We also did notice that it appeared that the floors and blankets had not been cleaned for quite some time with the accumulation of dust in the living room and smell of the blankets.
So despite enjoying many aspects of the cabin, not having a working toilet and receiving no apology or acknowledgement from the owners really negatively affected our stay.

The cabin was just as described. Our family had an excellent stay! The property is beautiful and being able to enjoy the creek was a bonus! If you are looking for peace and quiet, look no further.

My wife and I stayed here for an early Valentines weekend. We were able to get ‘off the grid’ for a weekend and this place was perfect for that. Our dog loved the open field and the chance to go explore. We would definitely consider staying again in the fall for a beautiful view.

We had a great time in such a wonderful little cabin. It was just what we wanted, cozy with great views and no noise.

We loved this property! It was quiet, cute, everything we wanted. The problem was the toilet barely flushed and sewage was backing up into the shower. Tried to contact the owners and got a recording. Left a message and no response. Three nights without a shower. It was our 20th wedding anniversary… would definitely go back if the septic issue was fixed!

Great to stay in an old house. I was fun staying in the room with wood heat and playing board games with my wife.

Very cold this time of year but we were comfortable and it was beautiful.

It was good but it would be best if you took some wood with you to burn when it is the cold season. We were scared we were on someone’s property with the no trespassing signs. The driveway is steep but we were in a rental car and I think we were worried about that. My husband is 6’ 3” and we appreciated the sign from kitchen to bathroom and big living room letting you know to watch out. We loved seeing Oreo and the deer. I want to come back before it gets as cold as it was so we can sit on the porch and drink coffee. All in all we had a great time.

Imagine being able to live like a pioneer with modern conveniences. In other words, being able to stay in a legit old log cabin but with luxury of electric, running water , heat and a bathroom. This cabin is rustic, comfortable and the setting is heavenly mountain views. The owners are super great people who allow guest to explore their property, which includes a cascading mountain stream. Relax on the swing on the front porch and watch deer graze. The only disappointment was there wasn't firewood waiting on the porch for us to use, but the owner told me we could get wood off the land. It would have been a nice touch to have at least one night's worth of wood waiting for us. Other than that, the bed was super comfortable, and the rain on the tin roof above the bed put us into a deep sleep so we were well rested for our 5 hour trip home. Thank you, Ed for allowing us to stay in your wonderful cabin. This will be a Thanksgiving with wonderful memories.
