About this house rental
Quirky and retro and different and definitely not a corporate hotel. It's clean and fun and centrally-located in the Harrisburg/Hershey Central PA area. It used to be the town bank, so it has open space and plenty of indoor space. It was the town bank for over 60 years and now it's been renovated to be my home. It can host anything from a couple's weekend to small events such as family reunions. I rent it out when I'm out of town so it's all yours if you reserve it. It's my home some of the time, so it's got most of the usual things you'd expect to find as far as amenities. It's five minutes from downtown Harrisburg and a little over 20 minutes to HersheyPark area (about 11 miles). Two miles from the Farm Show. It's 3 miles from I-83 and I-81, so it's convenient to just about everything in the PA Capital Region. There are lots of restaurants, nightspots, shopping, and anything else you might need, all within about 10 minutes. The town of Penbrook isn't fancy. It's a blue-collar kind of town and not wealthy, but it's safe and close to a lot of stuff. It's also very convenient to several major highways and attractions. The town itself is small and more of a throughway. It's certainly not touristy. The location is convenient to everything in the Harrisburg, Hershey and surrounding areas. It's close to all of the main highways. The building is decorated and furnished in my personal taste, which is Americana retro, like mid-century 1950's and 1960's mostly. All of the modern touches are there, including top-notch Internet and electronics. Please be aware that this is not a hotel or resort. It's my part-time home and decorated in my own personal style. Hopefully you'll agree that it's cool, fun, and a positive and uplifting vibe. It's got a lot of open space and it's decorated in my personal style and of course that might not be for everyone. So please check out the pictures and feel free to ask any questions before booking. My guests are welcome to use the instruments, play the games, and enjoy anything in the house. Feel free to eat the snacks, cook, use the spices, have a beer (and nothing wrong with leaving a beer either). It's a fully-furnished home and you're welcome to use it as such. This is my home much of the time and is a completely-stocked home. I don't have fancy tastes, but it's certainly clean and has plenty of linens, extra blankets, tons of pillows, and much, much more. I like a comfortable home! There are a lot of old-school board games, puzzles, card games, and more. I try to bring the place back to the age when people spent quality time together rather than everyone retreating to their rooms and play on the phone. (not that there isn't good wi-fi there too, lol) There is a foosball table and dart-board and games for all ages. It's got a lot of space inside (my buddies and I even throw football to each other inside.....not saying you should do that, but you could ;) However, I want to make sure everyone has an accurate description. There is virtually no outdoor space. It used to be a bank and banks don't need yards. There is just enough space where your doggy could use the restroom, so to speak, but there isn't much in the way of "hanging out" space outside. It's basically "in town". It's about five minutes from downtown Harrisburg in Penbrook. Penbrook is a calm town; it's not fancy but it has its charms. A lot of people drive through Penbrook during morning and afternoon rush-hour because it has a main road. But other than the "commuting" hours it's a fairly quiet town. There is a parking lot that is part of this property that has room for up to 15 vehicles. It's just across the street about 50' from the house. There is usually on-street parking as well that's even closer to the house. My house is big inside and centrally-located but it has very little green area. There are parks nearby though. It's a big, fun place with a positive vibe inside with lots of indoor space and room to spread out. There is a good local pizza shop right across the street and you can walk to the 7/11. Plenty of restaurants and shopping are minutes away and you can be along the river in Harrisburg or at City Island to watch professional baseball in 10 minutes. Hersheypark is less than 20 minutes away. There is a well-stocked bar that has room for around 5-10 people. The bar is on the honor system and please feel free to leave something behind ;) There are my music instruments that I leave out for all to enjoy. (guitars, stand-up bass, drums) I totally understand that once in a while something gets broken: picture falls off a wall, guitar string breaks, etc., but please let me know. Otherwise it might be a while before I notice, especially with drum-sticks or guitar strings. *Please be clear that the number of guests includes anyone who is visiting even if they are not expected to spend the night. The rate is based somewhat on the number of guests. It's not just the number who would be spending the night. I'm not opposed to larger groups, but please be open about the estimated number of guests and the occasion for the visit. * There is a parking lot that is part of this property as well that can park up to a dozen or more vehicles. The parking lot is about 50 feet from the house. After that you'd have on-street parking. You can always load/unload right in front of the building on the main road (Walnut Street). Please feel free to ask whatever questions you like before booking! It's definitely better to ask ahead of time to avoid anyone being let down. Events such as small wedding receptions, family reunions, or company get-togethers are welcome. However, parties for locals just having a party for the sake of partying are not allowed. Unfortunately the only problem guests have been 20'something locals who just want to have a party. Most events are welcome as long as they are accurately described at the time of the reservation request. Please just ask if you're not sure. Please be clear that the number of guests visiting needs to be included on your reservation request. I realize this site doesn't do a great job at labelling the rates and fees. There are reasons the rate varies depending on the number of guests. For example: a married couple wanting a weekend alone is far different from 20 guys having a bachelor party. The wear and tear, resources used, and possible extra clean-up all costs a lot more. But if the rate is the same for 20 people, then it would be too expensive for couples or a small family. So the base rate is lower and increases with the number of guests. Unfortunately I haven't found any method that works as well and is fair to a variety of types of guests. I am pretty reasonable about guest charges. For example, if you're staying three days and want to have a small get-together for a few hours on just one of the days, I'm not expecting you to pay for each guest for three days. Unfortunately the website doesn't make some of those nuances easy to tackle. So just message me ahead of time. That being said, if you're having ten friends over for the day there should be a fair surcharge. The Covid times and too many guests abusing the "group events" have put a damper on larger groups. I'm not opposed to them but I do expect anyone submitting a reservation to be up-front about their intentions. ....hopefully that seems reasonable to all. I don't charge a cleaning fee and most of the time there is no security deposit. In fact the only "fee" charged is for pets. Any other fees or taxes are charged by the website and the local and state government......I don't get any of that. *About pets: I love animals and I don't want to say "no pets". However, I now realize why some owners don't accept them. Most dogs do bark as soon as the owners leave, whether the owners believe that or not, lol. Most dogs do shed a bit more when they have new stress. They do sometimes make a "mess" inside. Worst of all would be the possibility of fleas. I love pets, but I hate bugs. Please be 100% sure your pet was recently treated before arriving. Also, my limit on number of dogs or cats is two. That doesn't mean an occasional exception can't be made, but I think an additional fee would be fair and please inquire first. ....I really don't like having rules, but the pets have sometimes been more difficult than one might expect.* I do my best to be a super chill host and I'm happy to do what I can to help with special requests. You'd be reserving the entire home for your family or friends. Single rooms aren't available to rent. Feel free to ask for area recommendations; especially if you're torn between a few choices. I can certainly help. Central PA is a wonderful area with a lot to offer!

Coolest chill place ever. While this could be a get away for a large group, it can also be a place to unwind after a long day of work meetings. Biff is such a great communicator and has put so much character into this place. Definitely recommend for anyone.

This was a great place, plenty of space, close to Hershey attractions.

Our family loved our stay! Pics look like its different rooms, but it is a great open space with lots of places to sit, play and hang out! Lots of beds, but some rooms had two queen beds in them.....just mentioned for different groupings, couples and families. Use stuff-leave stuff kinda place! Recommend by all 17 of us!!

Family and friends came in for our sons wedding and it was the best place we could have stayed. I can’t wait to see the day of getting ready pics of the groom and grooms men in this awesome house. Biff was great helping on the planning and check in process.

Our friend’s weekend getaway landed us at Biff’s place. We played hide and seek, shot darts, played board games, and just kicked back in the main area. The bank stay was unlike anything we had ever experienced. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun and different kind of experience with a group of friends!

Biff is an amazing host. Very responsive and he truly opens up his home to his guests!
We would absolutely look to stay here the next time we are in Hetshey!

A great quirky home. Arrived to a basket of snacks and loved all the nostalgic items around the house. Would have loved a record player for the classic albums . Highly recommended.

This place was more than we could've hoped for!!! Aside from it being so uniquely cool...its very comfortable and welcoming. Location was perfect and super convenient to everything.

It was fun scenery. Kitchen upstairs was difficult for my mom and the shower being upstairs was an issue. But we had lots of fun. Great location to get to everything. Easy to reach the owner. Well equipped and entertaining.

Definitely a different experience! The place had an "older" smell but given it's history, that seems to be expected. The oddity of the place is what makes it special and a fun place fir anyone. We would stay again if we are in the area on the future!

The Bank was a unique place to stay - pretty cool conversion from a bank into a house. Two male adults, two male teenagers on a HersheyPark getaway. We enjoyed the vibe but it could use some updating and a cleaner look overall. The location was fine, but I would have preferred the entrance to have an updated lock and some privacy (particularly at night when the lights are on, you can see most of the first floor through the entranceway which is all glass.). Parking was fine on the street around the corner. Biff was responsive and accommodating. All in, we had a memorable stay and if the property gets some updating, we would definitely look to come back. Thank you for your hospitality, Biff!

Our family of 5 Adults (parents & Grandparents) and 4 Grandkids (11-13 years old)stayed here overnight as we visited Hersheypark.
I seriously believe the kids enjoyed their time more at the Bank than Hersheypark.
They were just amazed at the space offered. We were even treated to an impromptu band concert in the morning using the instruments there. Of course the two bank vaults just intrigued them too.
The adults were impressed with all the unusual decor. Each time they looked tgey would find something new to talk about. Biff was a great host and provided much more "stuff" than any other host we've used before. Overall a very fun and enjoyable experience! It truly is amazingly indescribable!

This place and the owner seem too good to be true, and most laid-back person I’ve ever encountered! It’s exactly as described. A Bank converted into a house. It’s bizarre and quirky and pretty much everything it says in the description. There’s a spot on the wall where people sign their name or leave messages. So many bizarre pictures and statues and knickknacks. It’s fun to go around the house and take a bunch of pictures and then play scavenger hunt with the pictures where people trying to find where each of the things are. Again read the description owner lives here much of the time there’s stuff in the fridge, and the furniture is very lived in. But again a very cool, unique place to stay. We will talk about for a long time! Only spent one night on a weekend trip to Hershey Park but it was very cool!

Biff and his property are truly one of a kind. I stayed with 3 other adults and 4 children and we had plenty of space to romp and hang out. The kids loved the vaults! Not only was the place clean, but Biff (the host) gave us amazing local recommendations from local parks and candy stores to bars and restaurants to try out. My faith in rental platforms had been declining, but when you stay at a place like the Bank with a host like Biff, it makes it worthwhile.

On our family trip to Hershey this summer, I came across this gem on VRBO. The place did not disappoint! The eclectic vibe of "THE BANK" was extraordinary! From the retro nick naks to the barber chairs at the bar area we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The kids were excited to play with the fun accoutrements like the drum set and guitars and the other games that the owner had there, as the adults relaxed at the bar.
Sleeping was a breeze as there were plenty of beds to go around. I will suggest a night (or two) in the vault bedroom.....was certainly a different type of experience!
Only 20 mins (give or take) to Hershey with plenty of restaurants and breweries to keep everyone happy!
The owner was fantastic to work with as well!
All-in-all a great trip that we will not soon forget!!!

We had a great time at the Bank! We did have to get used to the layout and the few open air bedrooms. Overall it is a really fully stocked awesome place to stay!

Stayed at The Bank on our vacation. Biff was very friendly and the place was perfect for my family. Parking was a little iffy, but Biff was there for us when i reached out. Overall we loved it!

The property was lots of fun. The family really enjoyed the instruments area. Lots of room for everyone to enjoy. Plenty of bedrooms (6 on 1st floor, 2 on 2nd) and bathrooms (powder room on 1st floor and 2 full bathrooms on 2nd) Trip to Hershey Park was a short ride from the property.

Nice place very roomy but location is not desirable. Great place for lots of people to stay. Beautiful rooms. Location to hershey park was also great. So overall good place.

The property exceeded our expectations and we had a great 1 night stay in Harrisburg. It was a perfect, unique place to stay and was only a short Uber ride to downtown Harrisburg. Would highly recommend for a family fun weekend getaway to see the city.

We had a great time staying at Biff's place during a recent Hershey Park weekend trip. I originally was looking at regular old hotel rooms, but once I came across this listing, I thought - why be normal? Biff's place offered space, space and more space, everything we needed, exceptionally clean bedding and bathrooms (very important!), and an experience my family will not forget. I mean, when else in your life will you sleep in a bank vault? We had fun trying out the instruments, and I think my kids played hide n seek for like 2 hours. And they are teenagers - ha ha!
The listing is really clear about what you can expect. It is an older building so there are quirks that go along with that. This place is more fun than fancy, but it is worth staying for the price, location, and experience.
The location was just fine for us, and we took Biff's suggestion to eat at the pizza place across the street, which was delicious and had good prices. We also ventured into downtown Harrisburg and found a great burger place right near the water. There is some amazing architecture downtown, worth checking out.
Thanks for renting us your space! It was fun!

Really fun place. Perfect for kids or large groups, you cannot stay there and claim to be bored. Host was so easy to work with and amazing.

We had 10 adult golfers and enjoyed our stay. The large downstairs area was perfect for relaxing and hanging out. Parking is always a concern but we had plenty of parking spaces. Kitchen was large enough for our daily breakfast. All in all in was a good weekend.

My women’s tackle football team traveled to Harrisburg from NH and had THE BEST time at this property! Fit lots of people, Biff was easy to communicate with, laid back, AND came to our game to watch! I would definitely recommend staying here with large groups and we will definitely be staying there again if and when we come back!

This place is incredible. So much character and a ton of fun, interesting, and eclectic decor and things to do. The pictures simply don’t do it justice! Clean and super comfortable. We had a group of 10 people and it could definitely fit all of us and more. The location is great and the check-in process was extremely easy. Biff was super responsive and really went out of his way to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We can’t recommend this place more!

Wow, this property has character. It was perfect for our use. If going to see a show in town, or having a pre-game party this would be great. Maybe not for a family getaway, not that there's anything wrong with it. We had a great stay.

To say this place was eclectic is an understatement. We loved all of the decor, it was fun exploring the space and levels. It is an older space (bank) but if you love kitsch and have a chance to experience the joy this spot creates, do it. You won't regret it.

Really unique place with a ton of character and good vibes. Biff was communicative and upfront with instructions, which made the whole experience smooth. Everyone raved about the Bank and would definitely recommend.

We enjoy our short stay at this property. Enjoyed being able to play the guitars. Beds were super comfy and place was warm when we arrived.

We had a family reunion, 5 adults and 4 kids. Kids fell in love with the bank especially sleeping in the vault rooms. Adults were grateful for the open spaces. So many places to sit and read, take a nap or sit and talk while the kids played games or did art projects. It was too cold to do outdoor activities but we enjoyed being inside. We would definitely stay here again!

My family and friends from our campground do an annual trip every year to see the Christmas lights This year we chose Hershey Park. We stayed at The Bank it was awesome. We wish we had more then one night. It had something for everyone. The kids enjoyed playing the drums and the guitars. They also loved the Foosball table. The adults played blackjack and roulette on the built-in tables. There was plenty of room for everyone. We love that every one that stayed there left their own added touches. We love that we got to sign the wall. First time ever sleeping in our bank vault was pretty awesome too. Overall the camping crew had a great time and are looking for ways to come back in and spend some more time there.

We hosted our staff Christmas gathering at this location and it was amazing. The uniqueness and fun elements were perfect for our team to unwind and relax after a long year. The host was very welcoming and the property was just what we needed. Every single person said they would book it again themselves for a fun night.
