Nestled in the woods along the top of the Canyon and within walking distance to DeSoto Falls, Mountain Laurel House is a peaceful escape on Lookout Mountain. This quiet, wooded property is 0.5 miles from DeSoto Falls, 5 miles from Mentone town center, and 4 miles from Desoto State Park.
The properties of Mountain Laurel Inn lie on the outskirts of DeSoto State Falls and offer easy access to trails. Enjoy the large fire pit area, coffee on the porch, or a hike to DeSoto Falls.
The space
The Mountain Laurel House is a 1 bed / 1 bath home with a king bedroom and a sleeper sofa in the living area. It has a full kitchen, outdoor propane grill, designated eating and living spaces, and is complete with everything needed for a comfortable stay!
The home offers fast wifi, county water, central HVAC, and a wood-burning stove. The kitchen includes a full-size fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, range, toaster and Keurig. A 55” ROKU TV is in the living room so that guests can sign into their own streaming accounts.
Room darkening curtains recently added to primary bedroom, and eye masks are available for guests using the sleep sofa.
Mountain Laurel House is located among a small collection of vacation rentals. The property has access to trails on Alabama state-owned land that lead to views of the Eastern side of DeSoto Falls. This state land is extremely private as most locals and visitors go to the access point across the falls.
The property is bordered by the wooden Appalachian-style Mentone Wedding Chapel. Shady Grove Horse Ranch is also a neighbor -- contact them in advance if interested in scheduling a horse back ride to the Falls.
Please note that access to the property is paved roads until the final 0.7 mile. The last section is a dirt road which has ruts in places. This should be accessible in most vehicles however we recommend driving slowly and using caution. Reach out to us if you have any questions.
Guest access
Guests have full private access to the entire home. The only exception is a staff‑only supply closet, accessible from an exterior door. Inside the home, there is a locked door marked "Private" to this supply closet. Guests are asked not to enter that locked space.
Mountain Laurel House has a private deck and firepit. There are also communal firepits and trails on the property.
