The Britannia Inn

Been in to this Lakeland inn on many occasions previously for a beer but always wanted to stay overnight and was so pleased I eventually did, very traditional with quirky rooms and top class beer and food. The breakfast was 2nd to non in terms of quality and presentation . The small bar with the constantly topped up log fire was sublime. But the standout feature that will leave a lasting impression was the staff. Genuinely friendly and welcoming throughout my stay. I can’t wait to return.

The food was very good. Decent-sized portions for people who have been outside all day and built up a good appetite. The staff were all very helpful and efficient. The bathroom was new, shiny and had a great shower. The bed was quite soft but comfortable too.

Our room was snug, but at the side of the inn with only a limited view. It would be helpful if the booking web site gave a bit more detail about what you can see (or not) from the bedroom window.

Staff very professional but friendly and helpful. Nothing to much trouble. Room was cosy.

It looks attractive from the outside.

The room was terrible. Minuscule and impossible to move around the small bed without sliding one’s back against a wall. Equally minuscule bathroom that required the skills of a contortionist to even get into the shower. Then trying to get one’s hands above one’s head to shampoo virtually impossible. The swarming flies in attack mode at breakfast were horrible.
